View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter having problems with lxde crashing while running Jessie, and re-installing Wheezy, I am not able to mount my WinXP drive. In the past I was able to run pcmanfm and mount the drive from there. It would ask for my root password and then would mount the drive. Now, however, when I click on the drive icon it gives me an error message saying authentication required.
One thing is that when I installed Wheezy I had the WinXP drive disconnected so as to not inadvertently install Wheezy on the wrong drive (I have two identical drives). After installing I connected the WinXP drive and then did a grub update. I can boot either drive, as expected, but I can not mount the WinXP drive from pcmanfm. Do I need to change the Policykit?
Recently updated KDE to the last version available, v4.6.4. Apparently Dolphin lost the ability to mount ntfs/fat32 volumes. It was working great with 4.6.3. I'm getting this error while trying to mount an external HDD formatted as NTFS:
An error occurred while accessing 'LaCie', the system responded: org.freedesktop.UDisks.Error.Failed: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so
when i use the terminal, and i run "sudo apt-get update", there is a notification which says, "407 proxy authentication required". i use the internet of our school which requires its users to log into its proxy server so that the user can have access to the internet. the problem is i cannot run update or install commands through the terminal, though i can connect to the internet through firefox.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to use a wireless network from Ubuntu. In the network drop-down menu I select a network (this is a University network I have an account there). Then I get a windows with the following fields:
Wireless Security: [WPA&WPA2
Enterprise] Authentication:
[Tunneled TLS] Anonymous Identity:
[] CA Certificate: [(None)]
Inner Authentication: [some
letters] User Name: []
Password: []
I put there my user name and password and do not change default value and leave "Anonymous Identity"blank.
As a result of that I get "Authentication required by wireless network". How can I solve this problem?
I think it is important to notice that our system administrator tried to find some files (which are probably needed to be used as "CA Certificate"). He said that he does not know where this file is located on Ubuntu (he support only Windows). So, probably this is direction I need to go. I need to find this file. But may be I am wrong. May be something else needs to be done.
When I try to add a printer using this web interface.I get stopped at authentication required.I put the root login and pass but
401 Unauthorized.Enter your username and password or the root username and password to access this page. If you are using Kerberos authentication, make sure you have a valid Kerberos ticket.
I set up the 'Proxy' from Yast and they tested successfully. I can connect to internet, but why am I getting 'ERROR 407 proxy authentication required'?
FYI, my comp is the part of company .NET network with bunch of firewall and security...
If the wifi network gets disconnected why is the wireless authentication key needed again and again...cant ubuntu store and retrieve it...

I have a headless server which I have recently clean-installed debian6 on. I want to install fluxbox (I connect remotely using No Machine). I had a similar setup with debian5 earlier but have lost the notes I made during the previous install. When I google minmal gui installs, there are different 'recipes' concerning which base packages for x are necessary e.g. xorg, x-window-system-core etc.Which packages for x should I choose (and why)?I don't use a display manager (gdm etc.), and the hardware is not so powerful (via en12000).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had some help with root password su and sudo su, but I can not find the correct password to install or remove programs. I keep getting the same message ' Authenticate' Authentication is required to install software packages. An application is attempting to perform an action that requires privileges.Authentication is required to perform this action. Then it asks for a password, I've tried enter, seacats, knoppix, user, and my root password. None of these work I seem to be a second user and not the owner.
My Linux language is very low, but I am learning, right now in order to find or try to install software I go through the startup menu> preferences> software center. Is there another way to find and install software that doesn't require and authentication password? If so where do I find out the steps to do this? Hands on is always the best teacher.

When my router switches off... the wifi signals go off... then why the hell ubuntu keeps on connecting to that very wifi like hell and when doesnt connect shows the prompt to manually connect... with the wifi key already filled in... whats the use of saving the key when it has to ask the question from me either to connect or not?? and if its isnt available... just wait when its available.. and for the prompt,i have only option to cancel(because wifi isnt available at that moment if i select connect it again tries to connect like hell..which it cant) and if i cancel it wont auto-connect when wifi does get available! what the heck?
Windows has this done the right way... when the wifi isnt available.. it dissconnects silently.. and when it becomes available connects silently.. why isnt this been done this way in ubuntu??
Ive attached an image..one can see in the image that it says "authentication required by wireless network" when there isnt any.. as router has gone down!
And the second thing i want to report is that there is no way to report this bug from ubuntu... the launchpad.net talks of going through bug reporting process which is done against a definite package... now how does a user know which package would be causing this error?? there should be a more clear process of reporting such bugs to ubuntu team... which a common man using ubuntu( ubuntu says its most user friendly of all distros right?) can report..
I installed Jessie with Cinnamon alongside Win 7 - all went quite well though I did have to do a bit of guessing along the way.
Following online tutorials etc, I tried to install sudo from the terminal. It did not go well - some stuff appeared that was not shown in the instructions from many sites. So I abandoned it, or so I thought.
Then I discovered that my root password was no longer recognised. So I reset it, following online instructions.
This was successful apparently, as I can log in as root and see this in the terminal.
But on trying to start Synaptic ( and later others), I found that the new root password would is not authenticated, but my user password does authenticate successfully. This seems to be the wrong way round!
If I am running a script, let's say a install script. Is there a way to make Su repeat authentication rather then just returning "Authentication failed" and continuing the script?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI use gdm3+XFCE on my box (amd64, debian testing).
Recently, when I start my XFCE session, I have been getting this error message

Even starting a new XFCE session will not work. So far, it looks that this error message has no consequences, but it is annoying....
since I installed fedora 13 in my laptop, every time I want to access my windows drive it asks for root password to authenticate! I know there must be a way to fix this issue, i did this in my Fedora 10, but I forgot how I did it.Can anyone plz help me, so that only one authentication is sufficient, every time I restart/ start it asks for authentication which is very boring and I hate this

I just got my Gnome-flavored Squeeze running this morning, and I'm still working out the configuration. I have disabled automounting and autobrowsing of removable media, but anyway this problem was occuring when I had automounting enabled. I have the OS installed to a 4-GB microSDHC card plugged in to the front of the computer. The computer is a Toshiba Mini NB505.
edit: And now, I just plugged the flash8p1 into a different USB port, and it mounted from the places menu. I wonder, though, if this is related to the fact that I had first mounted it from the command line.

I just installed debian and I love it so far. I'm trying to mount an ssd that I took from my previous window installation but it gives me this error:

How can I sort this out? The data on the disk is important and I can not lose it.
Then my SD card with photos on it has about the same problem.
It gives me this message:

using Debian Testing and installed Truecrypt using the deb package from truecrypt website meant for ubuntu. The installation is okay.
Started Truecrypt
-> selected the file to mount,
-> entered the correct password
then Truecrypt asked for the USER or ADMIN password. Enter either password brings me back to the same input screen asking for USER or ADMIN for password.
