General :: Authentication Required By Wireless Network

Mar 9, 2010

I would like to use a wireless network from Ubuntu. In the network drop-down menu I select a network (this is a University network I have an account there). Then I get a windows with the following fields:

Wireless Security: [WPA&WPA2
Enterprise] Authentication:
[Tunneled TLS] Anonymous Identity:
[] CA Certificate: [(None)]
Inner Authentication: [some
letters] User Name: []
Password: []

I put there my user name and password and do not change default value and leave "Anonymous Identity"blank.

As a result of that I get "Authentication required by wireless network". How can I solve this problem?

I think it is important to notice that our system administrator tried to find some files (which are probably needed to be used as "CA Certificate"). He said that he does not know where this file is located on Ubuntu (he support only Windows). So, probably this is direction I need to go. I need to find this file. But may be I am wrong. May be something else needs to be done.

Ubuntu :: Disconnection And Connects To Unavailable Wifi - Authentication Required By Wireless Network

Jun 8, 2010

When my router switches off... the wifi signals go off... then why the hell ubuntu keeps on connecting to that very wifi like hell and when doesnt connect shows the prompt to manually connect... with the wifi key already filled in... whats the use of saving the key when it has to ask the question from me either to connect or not?? and if its isnt available... just wait when its available.. and for the prompt,i have only option to cancel(because wifi isnt available at that moment if i select connect it again tries to connect like hell..which it cant) and if i cancel it wont auto-connect when wifi does get available! what the heck?

Windows has this done the right way... when the wifi isnt available.. it dissconnects silently.. and when it becomes available connects silently.. why isnt this been done this way in ubuntu??

Ive attached an image..one can see in the image that it says "authentication required by wireless network" when there isnt any.. as router has gone down!

And the second thing i want to report is that there is no way to report this bug from ubuntu... the launchpad.net talks of going through bug reporting process which is done against a definite package... now how does a user know which package would be causing this error?? there should be a more clear process of reporting such bugs to ubuntu team... which a common man using ubuntu( ubuntu says its most user friendly of all distros right?) can report..

General :: Authentication Is Required To Install Software Packages For Knoppix

Jul 24, 2011

I have had some help with root password su and sudo su, but I can not find the correct password to install or remove programs. I keep getting the same message ' Authenticate' Authentication is required to install software packages. An application is attempting to perform an action that requires privileges.Authentication is required to perform this action. Then it asks for a password, I've tried enter, seacats, knoppix, user, and my root password. None of these work I seem to be a second user and not the owner.

My Linux language is very low, but I am learning, right now in order to find or try to install software I go through the startup menu> preferences> software center. Is there another way to find and install software that doesn't require and authentication password? If so where do I find out the steps to do this? Hands on is always the best teacher.

Debian Configuration :: Error Mounting Volume - Authentication Required

Aug 31, 2015

After having problems with lxde crashing while running Jessie, and re-installing Wheezy, I am not able to mount my WinXP drive. In the past I was able to run pcmanfm and mount the drive from there. It would ask for my root password and then would mount the drive. Now, however, when I click on the drive icon it gives me an error message saying authentication required.

One thing is that when I installed Wheezy I had the WinXP drive disconnected so as to not inadvertently install Wheezy on the wrong drive (I have two identical drives). After installing I connected the WinXP drive and then did a grub update. I can boot either drive, as expected, but I can not mount the WinXP drive from pcmanfm. Do I need to change the Policykit?

General :: LDAP Network Centralize Authentication ?

May 15, 2011

I have more than 150 Linux desktop computer in my office IT setup.

I want to configure LDAP centralize network authentication for all the desktop computer.

My requirement is below mentioned.

The LDAP server will only authenticate the desktop computer at the log-in time when the user start computer.

The home directory of all the user should be create in their desktop local computer not in the LDAP server.

And flexibility of user log-in for every desktop. (any user can log-in any computer with his/her username and password)and the home directory will create automatically in the local desktop computer automatically the moment any user will log-in to any computer in the network and the LDAP server will authenticate for desktop-network log-in in to the computer.

General :: Windows - Find Out Which Authentication Protocols A WiFi network Uses?

Aug 16, 2011

I want to connect my Debian Squeeze machine to my school wireless network with wpa_supplicant.

I think the network uses 802.1X authentication, because when the other students connects to the network for the first time in Windows they enter their username and password then the connection is established. I have asked the the IT staff but they do not known what 802.1X, PEAP EAP etc. is and just say "Enter the login details in the box!".

If I bring a Windows 7 machine to school and successful connects to the network, is it then possible for me to extract the information [and extract a certificate if used on the network] from Windows somehow so i can setup the wpa_supplicant.conf correctly on Debian?

The information I want to extract is which protocols are used, like PEAP,MSCHAP etc.

Debian :: Domain Name Of Network Required For Installation?

Oct 9, 2010

Completely new to Linux. I have two PC (both with Windows XP SP3) and an HP printer that are networked together with Ethernet cables and a 2Wire gateway. I now would like to install Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.6 on one of the computers and make it a dual-boot machine. The other PC will remain with Windows XP only. During the installation of Debian (5.0.6, 64-bit), I am asked to supply the domain name of the network.

It tells me that I can make up a name but to make sure to use the same domain name on all the computers. I have set up what Windows calls a Workgroup so that the two PCs can have access to each other's files. Would the name that I had assigned to the workgroup in Windows be what Debian is asking me about? The end result is that I want to be able to access Windows files and folders using Debian and vice-versa.

General :: Way To Prevent Network Manager From Storing Password For Wireless Network

Sep 27, 2010

Our corporate wireless network uses continuously changing passwords with RSA tokens. So every time we need to connect to the wireless we need to enter a new password off the RSA token. For extra fun using the wrong password a couple of times in a row causes the users account to be locked.Network manager automatically stores and reuses the password, with the net result that it is constant getting my account locked. Is there some way to prevent it from storing my password for that network?

Ubuntu :: Server Disappears From Network Hard Reboot Required

Nov 15, 2010

I've been having issues with my ubuntu server (10.04 LTS) lately. Every once in a while, anywhere from 3 days to a month or more, the server will just disappear from the network. All manner of trying to reach it from the outside fails, even from the LAN. Since it's headless, this is kind of problematic. After a hard power down or reboot, the server will always come back online, but this is very annoying for a remotely administered server.

What should I look for when trying to determine why the server keeps going offline? I can't tell if there are any other issues like a hard lockup or anything, just that it is not on the network anymore when this happens.

OpenSUSE Network :: Reconfiguring / Recompiling The Sendmail Conf Files But Would Rather Not If It's Not Required + Milter?

Mar 22, 2011

I have gone through a good number of distros all the way back to Slackware but I'm struggling to get my brain moving in the right direction again. I am working to enable sendmail and, from what I've read, it appears that newer version of sendmail are installed with milter but I can't seem to locate this. I am running v11.4 so I'm wondering if this is just not the case? I don't have a problem reconfiguring/recompiling the sendmail conf files but would rather not if it's not required. For the record my ultimate goal is to have the spamassassin and clamav milter's installed and using the home server as our primary email.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: GTC For PEAP Authentication In WPA2?

Sep 20, 2010

So my university has two wireless servers that students can log into: VCU and VCU SafeNet. The regular VCU server works fine in most areas on campus but the library which I imagine I would be spending most of my time in between classes to do work and such. The connection quality for the unsecured server sucks ass there, and I do not use that term lightly. Other students have found success connecting in the library through the SafeNet server and the tech support man in the library was very nice in helping me setting up the security rules to connect to SafeNet in openSUSE.

However, I lack one little thing that would get me internet connection on crack at the library: GTC authentication for PEAP in WPA2. I did some research and found that GTC has not been implemented in the GUI of KNetworkManager even though it was implemented in NetworkManager. The guide that the tech support man printed out for me was for some earlier version of Ubuntu, so I know NetworkManager has had GTC support for a while now and KNetworkManager is still lacking this. I also found a patch for KNetworkManager, but have had no luck implementing it.

Fedora :: Wireless Connection Hangs On Waiting For Authentication

Mar 20, 2011

Has anyone else been having problems with their wireless network connections since the network manager updates? I have two different networks that I connect to and have in the past had no problems since figuring out what files were missing and had to be either created or corrected and copied into the correct locations. I have tried everything I know to get my secondary wireless connection working to no avail(currently connected through my neighbors unprotected network), from deleting the connection, rebooting and recreating it, editing the files and copying them back into the correct locations and nothing works.

I have even had many crashes while using network manager. Using system-network-config eliminated the crashes but still does not allow the connection to connect. It attempts to connect and just hangs on waiting for authentication after prompting for the WEP key and clicking OK. What in the heck is going on since the devs created all these updates and have once again broken the most important aspect of any usable system, the network? I'm running F14 and KDE 4.6.1.
