I am about to go bed so won't be posting for another 6 hours.i couldn't work through.I am running squeeze on an asus eeepc 1001AH Double clicking my 2 gig flash drive gives me:Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1,missing codepage or helper program, or other errorIn some cases useful info is found in syslog - trydmesg | tail or so

I am using Debian 6.0. When I try to mount a drive (USB) in GNOME or using udisks, I end up with following error message:

Seems like it is trying to mount a CD.
But I am able to mount the same using

I tried the same with different filesystem and getting same message form udisks.
I am able mount other hard disk partition using udisks:

How to mount drives using udisks. I don't know how I can configure udisks.

When I plug in my USB stick (with fat32 filesystem, labeled flash8p1) and then try to mount it from the Places menu, I get an error box that pops up: Unable to mount flash8p1 Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdc1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so
I don't understand what the dmesg is telling me, but here it is for those who may understand:

I just got my Gnome-flavored Squeeze running this morning, and I'm still working out the configuration. I have disabled automounting and autobrowsing of removable media, but anyway this problem was occuring when I had automounting enabled. I have the OS installed to a 4-GB microSDHC card plugged in to the front of the computer. The computer is a Toshiba Mini NB505.
edit: And now, I just plugged the flash8p1 into a different USB port, and it mounted from the places menu. I wonder, though, if this is related to the fact that I had first mounted it from the command line.

Unable to mount 1.0 TB Filesystem

it only occurs on one HD it has ext4 file system just like the other external HD I have and the disk is healthy. It does mount with no problem at my netbook using ubuntu.

I just installed debian and I love it so far. I'm trying to mount an ssd that I took from my previous window installation but it gives me this error:

Metadata kept in Windows cache, refused to mount.
Failed to mount '/dev/sdb1': Bewerking niet toegestaan
The NTFS partition is in an unsafe state. Please resume and shutdown Windows fully (no hibernation or fast restarting), or mount the volume read-only with the 'ro' mount option.
How can I sort this out? The data on the disk is important and I can not lose it.
Then my SD card with photos on it has about the same problem.
It gives me this message:

using Debian Testing and installed Truecrypt using the deb package from truecrypt website meant for ubuntu. The installation is okay.
Started Truecrypt
-> selected the file to mount,
-> entered the correct password
then Truecrypt asked for the USER or ADMIN password. Enter either password brings me back to the same input screen asking for USER or ADMIN for password.

I can't mount it, and also since apparently debian doesn't care about the nasty systemd but I had to deal with that but I digress.
I cannot mount my itnernal drive, and even memory cards are listed as "permission denied" even though I am part of the disks group. I know that before systemd I could just edit a udisks config file but I cannot find out where it'd even be.
I've included my /etc/fstab.

I am part of the disks group, and am 90% sure that I edited the udisks file that says something about mount internal disk to allow active from allow_admin
The only udev rules that i've changed was the one to change the mount point for external drives to /media/drive_label instead of /media/$username/drive_label
Basically I'm trying to automount the partition after clicking on it in the file manager.

Recently updated KDE to the last version available, v4.6.4. Apparently Dolphin lost the ability to mount ntfs/fat32 volumes. It was working great with 4.6.3. I'm getting this error while trying to mount an external HDD formatted as NTFS:

Here are some, probably, useful information:
root@debian:/home/dagrevis# fdisk -l /dev/sdb
Disk /dev/sdb: 2004 MB, 2004877312 bytes
129 heads, 32 sectors/track, 948 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 4128 * 512 = 2113536 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

Unless I am logged in as root, I am unable to mount an external device (such as a flash drive or music player) This is what I get: I can, of course, pull up a root terminal and use the mount command, but I don't want every user to have access to the root terminal, but I would like everyone to be able to mount external devices. Debian Lenny, kernel 2.6.26-2-686 I'm trying to manually mount my digital camera. Picasa recognizes the device and imports pictures. However, I'd like to access my device manually as there are small video files I'd like to retrieve. It's for a fujifilm Z33 WP digicam.

I am running the latest debian lenny OS and with kernel 2.6.26-2-686. I have a common /data partition for both Ubuntu and Debian which is ext4 file system. I am not able to mount this volume. The error message reads "unknown filesystem type ext4". How do I fix this. I searched the net and there was a link talking about this

I used make-kpkg to generate bzImage from 2.6.39-3-686. After update-grub and booting the new vmlinuz system. I get:
"kernel panic - not syncing:
VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown block(0,0)".
grub.cfg shows new entry
'linux/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.39.3-686 root=/dev/sda1 ro quiet'
but previous working shows
'linux/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-5-686 root=UUID=210a363d-c0ed-4005-b6e8-bbc
aeb7abe54 ro quiet'
Am I missing a step? (or two?). Is it possible to do this from 2.6.32? Currently running Debian-6.0.2.1-i386-DVD-1, Squeeze, /release/current/ 20110626-15:45 on a SATA 1T hd.

I,ve upgraded Debian Testing to Gnome 3.18, acrivate from Online Accounts file integration of Google service.
In Nautilus left panel i see my Google Drive accounts but is impossible to mount , i have a generic error (impossible to mount position).
How i can fix this?
Same problem on Arch (Laptop).

I have attempted to install kernel 2.6.34 and 2.6.33 kernels with this Debian howto [url] Everything worked without any errors until I went to boot into the new kernel. When I receive this kernel panic output Kernel panic - not syncing VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
It also spits out something about being unable to access ext2 FS. I googled this symptom and have seen that it is fairly common, but everyone's error seems somewhat unrelated. I used the same kernel configuration as the one that is currently working, to keep things simple.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 running Ubuntu v10.04 with a wireless card.My desktop is a Dell Optiflex running WinXP.The desktop is connected via ethernet cable to a Linksys wireless router. Certain folders on the desktop are set for sharing. Up until early last week I was able to access the desktop folders from the laptop with no issues.Suddenly I am now getting this error "Unable to mount location Failed to mount Windows share" whenever I try to access the desktop folders from the laptop.I suspect an upgrade is the culprit, but not sure.

i'm trying to connect to the three other machines in my house but am having quite a hard time doing so. i've never had a problem in the past with ubuntu, but, with 9.1 and windows 7, things have gotten a bit harder. i'm running 9.1 and my roommates are running windows 7. i've installed, set up and configured samba and i can see the computers on my network, but any time i try to access either of the drives, it says unable to mount location: failed to mount windows share.

I just installed Linux Mint Debian Edition on my friend's laptop. The biggest problem is getting his iPhone 4 to mount. On libimobiledevice.org it shows a cool video of a guy managing his iPhone with Linux thanks to libimobiledevice. libimobiledevice.org also says libimobiledevice supports the iPhone 4. But when he plugs it in, he gets an error that says:

When creating the partition, the filesystem type was set to ext2. Apart from yesterday, I have not accessed this partition for a number of days now, and have done nothing to the operating in system in the ways of changing settings and such for a good week.

I have 2 internal drives. One is for the OS and one is for the Data. I tried to get the Data drive to mount automatically at login using some crap I found on a linux blog. Safe to say it didn't work and now I can't mount it with the OS on the OS Drive.
It mounts from a live CD and all the data is perfectly safe. When I try to mount the drive I get this error message: "Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: only root can mount /dev/sdb1 on /media/data" What have I done wrong and how can I make it mount again? Preferably this time at login.

I have been trying to share folders from my main PC which is running Ubuntu 10.04. I have been able to figure out Samba enough to get my a couple of folders shared, but I have been unable to share any folders which are on my external harddrive. After entering the path in my smb.conf file they appear on the network but I am unable to navigate to them. When trying to navigate to them through the network folder on the pc they are actually connected to I get an "Unable to mount location: Failed to mount windows share" dialog box. On the windows pc I am trying to share with I get, "Windows cannot acces \Josh-Desktop

I'm totally unable to play or mount audio CDs and unable to use video DVD's on my box right now. When I insert an audio CD I get a dialog box saying:
Unable to mount disc: Location is not mountable
and if I check messages in the Log File Viewer I see the following text repeated (save for the last line) a couple of dozen times.
