I'm using Debian Squeeze, Pidgin 2.7.3.When starting pidgin my accounts seems to start but I see no contacts. Then I go to Accounts->Manage accounts and disable accounts, after enabling them again everything is fine. Every time I start Pidgin I get this problem, I have to disable/enable accounts to get my contacts on the list.
Previously after doing aptitude upgrade, my pidgin seems broken with no gui shown. So I decided to download the latest source from pidgin website and build it from source, but I think I made situation worse because it then complained that ssl lib was needed. Then I removed the libpurple (e.g. aptitude purge libpurple0 libpurple-bin libpurple-dev) and reinstalled pidgin (aptitude install pidgin). Now it shows the error
pidgin: symbol lookup error: pidgin: undefined symbol: purple_media_element_info_get_type
I searched on the internet and can not find a solution. The clues on the internet says that's because the piding I use is the older version of libpurple. But I think I've removed all with purge and reinstalled it. Maybe some legacy binary is referenced. What or where it might be? Or where there may contain related information.
On a fresh install of squeeze, I can't log in to an AIM account with being immediately disconnected and given this error: You have been connecting and disconnecting too frequently. Wait ten minutes and try again. If you continue to try, you will need to wait even longer.
I waited for several hours before trying to reconnect, but got the same message. Searching for the error led me to some bug reports from upwards of three years ago.
Strangely, this error hasn't occurred on any of my other squeeze systems.
I can ping login.oscar.aol.com as well as login.messaging.aol.com; both resolve to 205.188.251.43 for me. I tried changing the "Server" under "Advanced" to this address, but again I got the same error.
Recently, I fully upgraded my Lenny Desktop (to 5.0.4). Now I am unable to add yahoo and msn protocol in pidgin. I can't see those options in Pidgin>>Add Accounts dropdown. Several times I cleaned the old config files and reinstalled it. Still nothing to my avail
I just installed Debian on my main desktop and I'm having issues with Pidgin auto-connecting. I have three accounts enabled (2 AIM, 1 GTalk), but the problem occurs even if I only have one account enabled. If I explicitly enable (or disable then re-enable) an account it will connect without issue. However, when Pidgin is launched, or if network connectivity is interrupted, no accounts will connect. No matter what, it is always reporting the status as "Waiting for network connection.Google turned up several related issues from a few years ago, but nothing with an applicable solution today.
I'm running newest pidgin on sid and i have few problems. First of all notifications doesn't work (plugin is of course turned on), also even when i turn on blinking icon it's not blinking. Oh and why the tray icon is so small now?
I can't make sound work in Pidgin. I've tries every single method (aplay %s with Command, ALSA, Automatic etc.). Anyway, I once was hearing sounds, but later they've gone again. I have ALSA set up in 'System - Prefs - Sound' and also in 'Multimedia Systems Selector', Debian Testing (sid) 2.6.32-3-686. I also cannot set the tray icon to 'Blink On New Message'. When I recieve a message - I only see a smilie there, no 'blinking'.
how do i enable video support for pidgin?, or is it on by default?? because when i click a chat room from yahoo's list of rooms(that say people have web-cams)i don't see any options to view any of the webcams.
How can I block messages from people who isn't in my buddy list in Pidgin?I always receive a lot of bothering messages from people who is not in my list, I have look at all the options in Pidgin but I didn't find where to set this condition.
The problem is that I cannot switch between users.I have copied a script from another site, but it will only open a new lightdm in a new display (tty8) while the other user's session is still active (tty7).
In xscreensaver, the same thing happens. If I click New Login, it will open a new lightdm session in a new display.I have searched in Google and these forums for some time already and I could not find any solution.I have just installed Debian 8.1 and XFCE in this computer, migrating from Debian 7.8 and Gnome. What I want is the same effect (or similar) to what gdm/gnome does.I have also found a solution that's about installing xfswitch-plugin, but it will also install gdm3 and lots of gnome dependencies.
I'm using jessie and since I upgraded from wheezy, gdm3 no longer shows a list of users in the logon screen. (I can still log on by selecting "other users").
I had previously had the same symptoms on wheezy, but had fixed it by changing "UID_MIN" to 500 in /etc/login.defs
I'm using squeeze. hal allows any user (at least, ones logged into the console) the ability to automount any removable drive that is plugged in. I want to restrict the ability to automount to users who are in the group that owns the device node for the drive (some distributions use the "plugdev" group for this.) I know I can turn off automount individually in each desktop, but seeing as hal is the thing that runs as root and is actually doing the mounting, it seems to make the most sense to change the setting in hal.
I'm using Debian Stretch with Gnome and Cinnamon. My desktop computer sports an nvidia geforce 970 gpu (this may be relevant, and it is the reason I had to go with stretch.) I'm not a very experienced linux user but I get along fine.
I'm sharing my computer with my mom and whenever we have to switch users, the computer seems to shut down for 35 seconds: the screen doesn't receive signal anymore. After a new user is chosen, it takes another 35 seconds to get to her session. This is embarassing because my os runs on an ssd and everything else is nice and fast. At first I thought it may be a matter of us two not using the same window manager or not using the "default" window manager, but changing window managers didn't work.
Today I learned about the existence of /var/log/syslog and I decided to check what happened to it when I switched users. I can't post the whole log of what happens because it is too big, but I put it on pastebin : [URL] ....
I understand almost nothing of what is written here, but I saw some interesting things:
- after 35 seconds intervals where nothing is logged, there is a stall on cpu detected (lines 68, 500) - my gpu seems to have something to do in all this
I have a Kubuntu 10.10 install on which I can't update my packages due to some fail conflict between pidgin and pidgin-facebookchat. I can't even remove the stuff via apt-get due to this conflict...
sudo apt-get remove pidgin Code: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
I am using Ubuntu 9.04. After doing sudo apt-get update When I try to insatll pidgin via terminal it shows: XXX@XXX-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get install pidgin Reading package lists... I'm using a PS3 Eye, which seems to work out of the box on my Ubuntu 9.10 system (both Skype, and Cheese). When I have a pidgin chat window open for one of my contacts, in the media options (under Conversation) the audio, video, and audio/video option is ghosted out (non selectable).
I have the Video plugin checked (ticked), with the input video selected (the cam shows up in the list, and it's selected): for the Eye, I select for both the Audio and Video device. But when I close the plugin configuration window, it defaults back to "Default" which i'm guessing is part of the problem. The audio and video options in pidgin is relative to my system correct? So even if the other user doesn't have that capability, it'll still let me use audio/video for them?
I'm am successfully adding my gmail account to both empathy and pidgin (it shows up in green that i'm 'available' on my computer). However, I am unable to send or receive any messages. On empathy it just says there was a network error - unknown, and pidgin say there is an xmpp message error code 404.
I've been trying for months to get IM working with my gmail account.
I bought a Toshiba notebook and I debian install the latest came out, along with programs up there, so good. Install the latest pidgin 2.8 and compile it, that was fine. When I wanted to test the webcam in pidgin, I do not work. Abri a chat window with a user and I get a option name "MEDIA" and displayed the "do called "sending camera" "Start Video Call" but the problem is that they are as dull, does not allow me selected. Surely it is why they are off, but I honestly do not know how to activate or turn them on.
I had installed pidgin and whenever i try to Sign-in to mu yahoo-Id, its Shows that it is CONNECTING and nothing happens, i waited alot, but in vain, I had also edited this line to my " sudo gedit /etc/hosts" > "66.163.181.170 scs.msg.yahoo.com"
I am able to use google talk (through browser) for both audio and video calls.
Also I am able to use Skype for Audio calls. I am able to receive video from others, but they are not getting my webcam data.
So, I tried pidgin, I used pidgin audio calls, earlier in Xubuntu 10.
But When I am trying to use my yahoo id in pidgin, I am unable to use audio video calls. The menu is disabled. When my buddies trying to call, I am not getting call .
There is something strange going on with Pidgin in Debian 6. I have just installed the system, then Pidgin, then configured my MSN accounts and chatted; but after rebooting, it no longer works. It just hangs while trying to connect - this is what I see from strace:
[Code].....
- a largish number of times. My very rough and ready thoughts about this so far are that it is probably not Pidgin that has an error, since 1) It worked initially, and 2) I am pretty sure the developers would have know about it very quickly if this was a general problem in Pidgin. On the other hand, my networking seems otherwise to be fine - s what is going on here?
I am using Debian 5.0.4 + LXDE, and I just install pidgin with apt, but somehow, the repository seems only have version 2.4.3, but without the updated one.
a friend of mine is running debian and for some reason we are getting errors when we try to use the deb package on its google code page were there like some dependancies that we need to install first before doing it through the use of a deb package
I have a strange problem with my skype beta (latest) and Pidgin (gmail account) the problem is when i make voice call, it works fine for 1 or 2 mins then the voice drops and it connects after 20,30 secs.
