Debian :: Camera Disable In Pidgin 2.8?

Jun 16, 2011

I bought a Toshiba notebook and I debian install the latest came out, along with programs up there, so good. Install the latest pidgin 2.8 and compile it, that was fine. When I wanted to test the webcam in pidgin, I do not work. Abri a chat window with a user and I get a option name "MEDIA" and displayed the "do called "sending camera" "Start Video Call" but the problem is that they are as dull, does not allow me selected. Surely it is why they are off, but I honestly do not know how to activate or turn them on.

Debian :: 7.8 Wheezy - How To Disable Hardware (Mic And Camera)

May 26, 2015

System: Debian 7.8 Wheezy

I'm curious about how could I disable hardware manually. I'm interested in how to disable integrated microphone and camera, since I don't use any of these features. How could I re-enable, in case I needed to use these devices?

I tried running modprobe -b uvcvideo to disable and then modprobe uvcvideo to enable - but I don't know if it would be enough, because, when I restarted, in syslog I could like USB Camera being detected (and possibly loaded) again.

Here, some useful information (I think):

/var/log/syslog
Code: Select allMay 26 13:09:27 debian kernel: [    9.184327] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device USB Camera (0bda:57b5)

May 26 13:09:27 debian kernel: [    9.193368] USB Video Class driver (1.1.1)

Debian Multimedia :: Pidgin: Symbol Lookup Error: Pidgin: Undefined Symbol: Purple_media_element_info_get_type

Aug 1, 2010

Previously after doing aptitude upgrade, my pidgin seems broken with no gui shown. So I decided to download the latest source from pidgin website and build it from source, but I think I made situation worse because it then complained that ssl lib was needed. Then I removed the libpurple (e.g. aptitude purge libpurple0 libpurple-bin libpurple-dev) and reinstalled pidgin (aptitude install pidgin). Now it shows the error

pidgin: symbol lookup error: pidgin: undefined symbol: purple_media_element_info_get_type

I searched on the internet and can not find a solution. The clues on the internet says that's because the piding I use is the older version of libpurple. But I think I've removed all with purge and reinstalled it. Maybe some legacy binary is referenced. What or where it might be? Or where there may contain related information.

Debian :: OS Does Not See Digital Camera Via USB

Mar 20, 2010

We've got one of those fancy, modern digital cameras and it's great for taking pictures, but I'd love to back those pictures up, too. When I connect the camera via its USB cable to my computer, the OS just doesn't "see" the camera/connection. Nothing shows up in fdisk -l. However, when I connect my mobile phone or USB HD via the same port, they show up in fdisk and can be mounted without any problem. The scary thing is that on my partner's laptop, running gNewSense (with Gnome), it (auto)mounts without any problems. The camera is a NIkon Coolpix L20 with an SD card.

How does one train a digital camera and USB stick to accept user access? Basically, this involves transferring photos from my camera to my machine, sorting and then moving favourites to the USB stick. Or moving selections that others have sent me to the USB stick. I am constantly changing ownership and permissions and it's driving me nuts. How can I send anything to a USB stick as a user?

Debian Multimedia :: AIM Error With Pidgin 2.6.5-2 From Squeeze?

Mar 1, 2010

On a fresh install of squeeze, I can't log in to an AIM account with being immediately disconnected and given this error: You have been connecting and disconnecting too frequently. Wait ten minutes and try again. If you continue to try, you will need to wait even longer.

I waited for several hours before trying to reconnect, but got the same message. Searching for the error led me to some bug reports from upwards of three years ago.

Strangely, this error hasn't occurred on any of my other squeeze systems.

I can ping login.oscar.aol.com as well as login.messaging.aol.com; both resolve to 205.188.251.43 for me. I tried changing the "Server" under "Advanced" to this address, but again I got the same error.

However, when Pidgin is launched, or if network connectivity is interrupted, no accounts will connect. No matter what, it is always reporting the status as "Waiting for network connection.Google turned up several related issues from a few years ago, but nothing with an applicable solution today.

Debian Configuration :: Network With Pidgin No Longer Works

Mar 14, 2011

There is something strange going on with Pidgin in Debian 6. I have just installed the system, then Pidgin, then configured my MSN accounts and chatted; but after rebooting, it no longer works. It just hangs while trying to connect - this is what I see from strace:

[Code].....

- a largish number of times. My very rough and ready thoughts about this so far are that it is probably not Pidgin that has an error, since 1) It worked initially, and 2) I am pretty sure the developers would have know about it very quickly if this was a general problem in Pidgin. On the other hand, my networking seems otherwise to be fine - s what is going on here?

Debian Multimedia :: SD Card In Canon Camera - USB Mount Disconnected

Nov 22, 2010

I'm trying to get some photos off a Canon Powershot SX110IS that uses an SD card (right now there is a Gigaware 4GB one in it) but this computer does not have an SD card input, so I am trying to mount the device through USB. This has worked with a handful of other cameras I've used in the past.

When I connect the camera to the computer and power it on, I get
usb 1-5: USB disconnect, address 7
usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 8
usb 1-5: New USB device found, idVendor=04a9, idProduct=3192
usb 1-5: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 1-5: Product: Canon Digital Camera
usb 1-5: Manufacturer: Canon Inc.
usb 1-5: SerialNumber: DA9C3D5C2D7F4E3EA806AA70BCDF3E28
So the kernel is at least aware of it. I tried letting thunar mount it, but it complains
thunar-volman: No property info.capabilities on device with
id /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_4a9_3192_DA9C3D5C2D7F4E3EA806AA70BCDF3E28.

I also tried letting dolphin automount it (yuck), but didn't get any messages about it. I checked the fdisk output and there was no ~4GB device, so I'm not sure that I can mount it manually.

Loaded modules:
asus_atk0110
ata_generic
ata_piix
atl1e
button
cdrom .....
