Recently, I fully upgraded my Lenny Desktop (to 5.0.4). Now I am unable to add yahoo and msn protocol in pidgin. I can't see those options in Pidgin>>Add Accounts dropdown. Several times I cleaned the old config files and reinstalled it. Still nothing to my avail
View 7 RepliesI have just found, that my pidgin on a old debian Lenny machine does not support Yahoo as a protocol anymore. When checking out the list of accounts, the one with yahoo is now listed as (unknown). And when I wipe pidgin clean off the system, remove all configuration and reinstall is, now there is no way to register a yahoo account, it is just not listed in all the protocols. What is going on???

I had installed pidgin and whenever i try to Sign-in to mu yahoo-Id, its Shows that it is CONNECTING and nothing happens, i waited alot,but in vain, I had also edited this line to my " sudo gedit /etc/hosts" > "66.163.181.170 scs.msg.yahoo.com"
Moreover,my yahoo works in ubuntu on pidgin...
I am using Xubuntu 11.04.
I am able to use google talk (through browser) for both audio and video calls.
Also I am able to use Skype for Audio calls. I am able to receive video from others, but they are not getting my webcam data.
So, I tried pidgin, I used pidgin audio calls, earlier in Xubuntu 10.
But When I am trying to use my yahoo id in pidgin, I am unable to use audio video calls. The menu is disabled. When my buddies trying to call, I am not getting call .
KDE just upgraded on my installation of Slackware to 4.3.5 and it doesn't show my Yahoo Messenger in the list of accounts. When I try to re-add it, I get this message:

View 1 Replies View Relatedi recently lost access to yahoo IM on 2 different computers (one 32-bit and one 64-bit) on both empathy and pidgin. it happened at around the same time on 2 separate machines on 2 separate networks. both gmail and msn will connect using both clients - it's only yahoo that will not connect and i've tried 2 different yahoo accounts, too...
i can still log into yahoo IM on a windows virtual machine and through the web messenger - just not using the ubuntu clients.
could there have been a recent update that may have caused this? i've also heard that yahoo in the past has changed around servers and put in measures to limit usages strictly to yahoo clients.
My Pidgin will not connect to Yahoo messenger. I'm thinking this is down to the version. If I do an update will it correct this problem?

Empathy gives its generic "network error" and Pidgin says the account is disabled, and fails to connect when I click "re-enable." I've checked the obvious things such as username and password. I was able to connect through the web messenger so my credentials are good. Also tried swapping the server with the IP address and changing the character encoding as recommended here.
View 2 Replies View RelatedPreviously after doing aptitude upgrade, my pidgin seems broken with no gui shown. So I decided to download the latest source from pidgin website and build it from source, but I think I made situation worse because it then complained that ssl lib was needed. Then I removed the libpurple (e.g. aptitude purge libpurple0 libpurple-bin libpurple-dev) and reinstalled pidgin (aptitude install pidgin). Now it shows the error
pidgin: symbol lookup error: pidgin: undefined symbol: purple_media_element_info_get_type
I searched on the internet and can not find a solution. The clues on the internet says that's because the piding I use is the older version of libpurple. But I think I've removed all with purge and reinstalled it. Maybe some legacy binary is referenced. What or where it might be? Or where there may contain related information.

However I have another computer with linux FC4 and the pidgin 2.6.2 installed on FC 4 with same configuration works.
After some research I found that telepathy-butterfly is the msn plugin for empathy. What would yahoo and aol messengers plugins be?

Previously, I had lightgdm instead of gdm3 and I fixed this problem allowing indirect GLX protocol just setting xserver-command=X -core +iglx in /usr/ share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-xserver-command.conf...Now I can't allog GLX protocol. I have tried the following:

In short, I don't find the way to enable indirect GLX in gdm3.
When I try to log in the screen just flicker and I get back to the kdm login.
If I use console login it just turn black and after a while it get back to console and no protocol specified shows up together with xinit: giving up.
If I use root there is no problem and I can get into the desktop so it must be a user configuration problem or.....
I'm using Debian Squeeze, Pidgin 2.7.3.When starting pidgin my accounts seems to start but I see no contacts.Then I go to Accounts->Manage accounts and disable accounts, after enabling them again everything is fine. Every time I start Pidgin I get this problem, I have to disable/enable accounts to get my contacts on the list.

I waited for several hours before trying to reconnect, but got the same message. Searching for the error led me to some bug reports from upwards of three years ago.
Strangely, this error hasn't occurred on any of my other squeeze systems.
I can ping login.oscar.aol.com as well as login.messaging.aol.com; both resolve to 205.188.251.43 for me. I tried changing the "Server" under "Advanced" to this address, but again I got the same error.
I just installed Debian on my main desktop and I'm having issues with Pidgin auto-connecting. I have three accounts enabled (2 AIM, 1 GTalk), but the problem occurs even if I only have one account enabled.If I explicitly enable (or disable then re-enable) an account it will connect without issue. However, when Pidgin is launched, or if network connectivity is interrupted, no accounts will connect. No matter what, it is always reporting the status as "Waiting for network connection.Google turned up several related issues from a few years ago, but nothing with an applicable solution today.

Anyway, I once was hearing sounds, but later they've gone again. I have ALSA set up in 'System - Prefs - Sound' and also in 'Multimedia Systems Selector', Debian Testing (sid) 2.6.32-3-686. I also cannot set the tray icon to 'Blink On New Message'. When I recieve a message - I only see a smilie there, no 'blinking'.
