I am using Debian 5.0.4 + LXDE, and I just install pidgin with apt, but somehow, the repository seems only have version 2.4.3, but without the updated one.
Anybody know why?
I need to get imagemagick on a Debian Lenny up from the lowly 6.3.9 version up to 6.4.9, I have looked it up, but can't get brief details on this ... if I just apt-get install, well I get the older version. Do I have to come up with my own deb package?

View 2 Replies View RelatedOn my debian web server I curently have ImageMagick 6.3.7 08/07/09 Q16 since this is an old version of imagemagick i wanted to upgrade my system that still runs etch, and afterwards upgrade imagemagick. I can not see what version the current lenny imagemagick package has, but I assume it is newer then 6.3.7, no?
When i ugraded I found out that my apt-sources used stable rather than etch. So I already had a mix of lenny and etch I suppose. I then had > cat /etc/debian_version 4.0 Before I upgraded I changed my apt sources from stable to etch, updated the package-tools and did a dist-upgrade (for details, I followed these instructions). After restarting I have still 4.0 as debian version. Also uname -r is 2.6.17. How can I do a correct update?.
Also my services were not started (ftp,ssh, apache2), so I asked my hoster to start the ssh service. This morning everything was up again, but it seems like nobody there have had a look at this. How do I absolutely ensure that my ssh service is start at boot. It is a remote webserver, so I need at least this service to be running.
I have installed Debian Lenny and the Driver for an NvidiaCard GTX280. As this card is not supported by the debian-repositories, i have installed the driver from the nvida-Site. It works ok, but there's one thing: When i have compiz fusion activated, the caracters in the shell are sometimes hidden (pls see attachment).

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy favorite IM application, Pidgin,have been causing me some problems with it's new release (2.9.0).More specifically I can't see friends which are visible in normal versions of MSN or hotmail web interface, even though I have searched any options available thoroughly. Also some of my contacts can see me online but cannot message me.
Therefore, I would like to install an older version to find out whether these problems are version or application related. However the only available version is 2.9.0 and I would like to downgrade to an older version,let's say 2.6.0 but I have no idea on how to do that.
Previously after doing aptitude upgrade, my pidgin seems broken with no gui shown. So I decided to download the latest source from pidgin website and build it from source, but I think I made situation worse because it then complained that ssl lib was needed. Then I removed the libpurple (e.g. aptitude purge libpurple0 libpurple-bin libpurple-dev) and reinstalled pidgin (aptitude install pidgin). Now it shows the error
pidgin: symbol lookup error: pidgin: undefined symbol: purple_media_element_info_get_type
I searched on the internet and can not find a solution. The clues on the internet says that's because the piding I use is the older version of libpurple. But I think I've removed all with purge and reinstalled it. Maybe some legacy binary is referenced. What or where it might be? Or where there may contain related information.
alright, here is my problem, some days ago i installed ubuntu 9.04 jaunty, and yesterday i perform an update as it is necessary to do so in order to upgrade to 9.10 the latest stable release. After the update, it required a reboot, i did tat, and as always i went to boot manually from my second hard drive where GRUB is installed.Then here comes the problem, normally my computer would display the volume of HDD and other stuff on a black screen (not sure if that is the POST screen) and then at the bottom it will show GRUB and it continues to run and boot ubuntu. This time, however, it shows GRUB and it stop right there, no more commands no movement at all. i tried Control + Alt + F2, nothing happened, all keyboard input seems to be not working, except for Control + Alt + Delete, which restarts the computer.BTW, i am having 2 HDD in my system unit, Vista and Ubuntu. (Vista was installed first long before Ubuntu)
View 7 Replies View Relatedi was trying to use gnome and kde but i don't like them. I tried xfce and it seem to fit my needs but.My computer is used to be powered on for a weeks. While time passes, a process xfdesktop begin to use more and more memory and to free RAM i need to log out and log in again.
I tried squeeze yesterday on my virtual machine and it has 4.6 and seem not to have that bug, RAM usage is static(yes it still works when i write this and have memory usage 34492k, which is not changing for an hours of usage already), also 4.6 is MUCH better than 4.4.
i already tried adding squeeze to "sources.list" but i can see too many dependencies which should be upgraded if i install 4.6, i'm beginning to afraid it can crash entire GUI(or entire system, i can see there is libc6 required to be updated).
I have a Kubuntu 10.10 install on which I can't update my packages due to some fail conflict between pidgin and pidgin-facebookchat. I can't even remove the stuff via apt-get due to this conflict...

I installed debian squeeze on an old computer that I found. (Pentium 4 3.2GHz HT) I installed from the i386 version, but now the uname command shows that its an i686. I don't find many packages that I need using apt-get. Do I need to compile each package I need from source or use dpkg to install the deb of an i386 version?
Can I use the i386 version on this computer rather than the i686 version? Will it cause a signifncant performance decreaes? (I use this computer to mostly do some reading and writing and file storage, no gaming etc.) How do I force the installer to use the i386 version?

I bought a Toshiba notebook and I debian install the latest came out, along with programs up there, so good. Install the latest pidgin 2.8 and compile it, that was fine. When I wanted to test the webcam in pidgin, I do not work. Abri a chat window with a user and I get a option name "MEDIA" and displayed the "do called "sending camera" "Start Video Call" but the problem is that they are as dull, does not allow me selected. Surely it is why they are off, but I honestly do not know how to activate or turn them on.

I'm using Debian Squeeze, Pidgin 2.7.3.When starting pidgin my accounts seems to start but I see no contacts.Then I go to Accounts->Manage accounts and disable accounts, after enabling them again everything is fine. Every time I start Pidgin I get this problem, I have to disable/enable accounts to get my contacts on the list.

I waited for several hours before trying to reconnect, but got the same message. Searching for the error led me to some bug reports from upwards of three years ago.
Strangely, this error hasn't occurred on any of my other squeeze systems.
I can ping login.oscar.aol.com as well as login.messaging.aol.com; both resolve to 205.188.251.43 for me. I tried changing the "Server" under "Advanced" to this address, but again I got the same error.
Recently, I fully upgraded my Lenny Desktop (to 5.0.4). Now I am unable to add yahoo and msn protocol in pidgin. I can't see those options in Pidgin>>Add Accounts dropdown. Several times I cleaned the old config files and reinstalled it. Still nothing to my avail

I have three accounts enabled (2 AIM, 1 GTalk), but the problem occurs even if I only have one account enabled.If I explicitly enable (or disable then re-enable) an account it will connect without issue. However, when Pidgin is launched, or if network connectivity is interrupted, no accounts will connect. View 14 Replies View RelatedI have added a 10 Mbps network card to my SGI O2 MIPS workstation running Debian Lenny running the 26-2 kernel. The workstation already has an onboard NIC which is working fine.(eth0).
lspci -v shows ths card as:-00:03.0 Ethernet controller: Compex ReadyLink 2000 (rev 0a) Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 18 I/O ports at 1800 [disabled] [size=32] Upon googling I found out that this card is an NE2000 clone. I downloaded the latest 2.6.36 kernel sources and did the following:-
1. Make Menuconfig
2. Loaded an alternate kernel config file (my working kernel config file)
3. In DeviceDrivers->Network device support->Ethernet (10 or 100 Mbit)
I selected ASIX AX88796 as the help associated with this showed it as an NE 2000 clone. configured it to be a module and did make, make_modules and make_install. Edited /etc/Modules to load ax88796 and added an alias eth1 ax88796 to this file. copied the new kernel to the /boot and did a reboot, the machine booted up fine and udev -r showed the 2.6.36 kernel and lsmod showed ax88796 loaded. But, Iam not able to bring up eth1 using:-
ifup eth1
The error messages given are:-
SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
eth1: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device

I installed debian etch on my system. Installation done successfully, but when it boots up the X server is not starting and showing error. Note : It is perfectly working with debian lenny. Configuration : Intel DG41RQ ,1GB Ram ,160GB HDD.
