I'm using Debian Squeeze. Just noticed that my system time has slipped back an hour and I can't adjust it because even though I give the root password, the buttons remain inactive.I checked a few other apps that need root authorization and found that - System --> Administration --> Network behaves in the same way.

I've got fedora 11 set up to use network time protocol to sync my laptop's date & time when I'm on-line. The question is simple really, I've added a local universality's time server (what is public) and it's live. but it's added to the end of the default time servers what come with fedora. How do I get fedora to just use the local time server, is it a case of removing the default time servers for fedora, but there is a box what says advanced options which are. sync system clock before starting service ???? & use Local time source (( is that the same as the local ntp server that I've got set up ))Hope some body can help me with the network time protocol part of Date/Time settings.

There is already a pid file /var/run/dhclient.eth0.pid with pid 2802 killed old client process, removed PID file.
What is this error and how can i fix it,because every time im re booting my server i lost my network config.
Just installed Jessie on a rig. Instead of messing with the /etc/network/interfaces with setting up static IP I used the gui to set it up since I felt unsure about doing it. Just out of curiosity I wanted to check what the gui did to my /etc/network/interfaces file, was surprise to see that it didn't do anything, so I'm wondering. Where did my new settings go? Can I edit them?
Not totally sure what sources /etc/network/interfaces.d/* does but the directory is empty, thought it might've gone in there.
I'm a bit worried about "too many mutexes" in my little curses-based app and would like to get confirmation/opinions that I'm doing this right. I've got an array: int nums[60] I've got 61 threads. 1-60 are doing math on the value in their array index (ie: thread1 increments nums[1], threadN increments nums[N]), then sleep(1) The 61st thread is my curses thread which does a for-loop over the array and prints out all the values to the screen, then sleep(1)
Right now, I've got 1 mutex which gets locked/unlocked each time one of the 60 threads needs to update its array-index with a new value, and the 61st thread locks the same mutex just before the for-loop beings reading the values and unlocks after ending the loop.
My questions:
A) Does the above seem OK? (I know it's ok, cause everything works right now but would like opinions on it)
B) Do I even need the mutexes since 1-60 only ever update their own index and 61 just reads?
C) If I do need the mutex protection, is there a better, more efficient way?
I have squeeze and need a bash script running with root privileges from xfce desktop to delete all PCI devices from /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and start dhclient on eth0 or eth1.
View 1 Replies View Relatedif you try to browse the web from the machine, or log in through a nomachine (nxclient/nxserver) session, it claims there is no internet conenction. You have to run System|Administration|Network and select the stored "Location" for our wired connection. There does not seem to be an option to make this (one and only) "Location" the default. If the machine is up and incoming connections are possible (samba & apache), surely outgoing connections should be working without extra fiddling?
The issue with nxserver (nomachine) becoming unavailable on a re-booted unattended machine (unless someone logs in AT THE MACHINE and runs System|Administration|Network) is causing problems for remote access.
I need to set up a little virtual network with Debian Lenny guests (the host is Debian Squeeze, but I don't think it matters). I installed Lenny in a VM and it works fine. Then I cloned the hard drive, garion@Laptop:~$ VBoxManage clonevdi Linux 1.vdi Linux 2.vdi created a new VM with exactly the same settings as the first one and booted the new disc. The problem is that there's no eth0 in the new VM, but it is in the original one. Also if I "unplug" the cable, dmesg won't notice anything. In the original VM it works fine. They both have the same virtual network card: PCnet-FAST III (Am79C973). I've also tried NAT as well as internal network settings.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 and I want to setup a VPN connection. Problem is the VPN tab in Network Manager has a lock and won't let me add any new connections. I've installed open-vpn but still have no option to create a new VPN.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've installed oS11.2 on a test box and joined it to our office domain without a problem. It's presently using winblows domain for authentication.
I can login normally, but when I attempt to unlock the screensaver using my windows credentials I am told that my account is "locked out, contact admin..."
A quick look at AD shows that my account is indeed being locked out, presumably when the 11.2 locks the screen.
what's causing this and how I can correct it?
I have a HP Pavillion DV7 laptop running Ubuntu 10.04, and I am having some problems with Ubuntu handling a network connection. Every so often, I leave my computer in locked mode overnight to download something. But, when I do this, the network just deactivates early on [there is a symbol of a blank wireless symbol with a red "?" by it]. Both the wireless and wired network connections are deactivated, and I am using a wired connection. This also sometimes happens in suspend mode, too, but less often. I have to restart my computer before it will connect again, as logging out and back in again does not suffice.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy main PC has AN Athlon X2 4600+ on an Asus M2npv-vm. Has been working fine for ages running Ubuntu. Today it the system locked up and I had to do a reset. Since then it will not connect to the router or cable modem. I can connect another PC to the router, so that looks okay.
What can I do to test the network connection from Ubuntu? It's not even getting an IP.
I suppose it could be something has died in the hardware, but want to eliminate other possibilities first.
In the right upper corner of your screen,you can see if you have a network connection or not.Most of the time I do not have one according to Networkmanager (?).So I have to enable my wired connection manually.I already tried a lot to change my settings so I would have a network connection at boot,but it doesn't seem to work....Firefox is in Offline modus when I logon..
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm successfully dual booting and running Windows XP and Fedora 11 (with EVERY recent update installed), everything works fine EXCEPT that I cannot get both System times to synchronize.. Evey time I run Fedora I find the system time is always an hour different to Windows. Evert time I correct the system time in Fedora it affects my BIOS time settings. If I then go into Windows I first have to go into the BIOS and correct the BIOS time setting by one hour before I get the correct time in Windows........ Nothing is wrong with my Windows side of things, I know this because if I don't log into Fedora then my system times stay correct, only when I correct the settings in Fedora (which are always an hour out) do I get my BIOS changed. Also in Fedora, although I live in the UK (London) Fedora ALWAYS DEFAULTS TO Guernsey, no matter how many times I correct this to LONDON, Fedora always defaults back to Guernsey.... Has anyone else experienced this as I'm sure it's a Bug in Fedora, surely it shouldn't alter my BIOS settings, should it ??

I usually configure Ubuntu to sync to an internet time server but this is no longer possible as I cannot open the System Settings > Time and Date dialog.
I deleted the firewall files "K09SuSEfirewall2_init", "K01SuSEfirewall2_setup", "S11SuSEfirewall2_setup" and "S01SuSEfirewall2_init" from "/etc/rc.d/rc5.d" in order to disable the firewall when rebooting.
As a consequence all network services are not working. I can't connect to any other machine nor to the internet.
I rebuilt the symbolic files based on the ones for runlevel 3, but still no network services are available.
Any suggestions how to make it work again? I'm using Suse 11.3.
I installed openSUSE on one of my work system. The network port wasn't working when I was installing, but works fine now (checked in Windows). But for some reason, I am not able to configure the network. I used both Dynamic and Static IPs (both work fine in Windows) but still no go. I am using Yast Control Center for this purpose. I can't even ping the default gateway when I am using custom settings. When I use dynamic settings, it says Unreachable Network.

However, in FC15, vim clears the settings screen really quickly, not allowing me enough time to catch it. Normally it should pause at the settings screen, and clear it only when I press any key. If others see the same problem, I will file a bug.

I've updated a desktop from 11.1 to 11.2 with the NET CD. After completion everything worked fine, though I have some issues with the NIC. been looking on the net and the provided solutions haven't been able to resolve the matter. After reboot I don't get an IP address, I go into Yast2 and network settings displays:

I have a desktop computer running OpenSUSE 11.2 with two network cards installed. I would like to use both cards for connecting to the internet using different networks. The setting would be the following: eth0 is the main (default) card, almost all programs should use this NIC for connecting to the internet. eth1 is used only by a few programs, which have setting for selecting which network interface to use. The two NIC's are connected to different networks, so the IP address of the NIC's, the related subnet masks and gateways are also different.
Saying short, I would like to have the two NIC's as they would be in two separate computers. I can set the IP address and subnet mask of the NIC's. The main problem is that I can only declare one gateway. How can i setup this? I do not use network manager, I configure network cards using yast, but if needed I can of course use ifconfig directly.
I have Debian 7 with LXDE installed on a msi-based-notebook. Immediately after i make the login (in graphics mode), the LED of "num lock key" turns on and lock,making the keyboard impossible to type properly.
I've tried to reconfigure keyboard,but it had no effect. And yes,i have tried to use the "Fn key + num lock" combination, but had no effect too.
I'm having one of those days, and managed to delete some virtualbox disk images. But the virtual machines are still up and running just fine. So the deleted disk images still exist somewhere.
Is it possible to recover these files? Since they are in use and locked by Virtualbox I guess they still are completely intact and fine on the disk, but that they will be permanently deleted once VirtualBox stops.
I love docky but i have a really annoying problem.
Every time I login to my account, all my previously settings on Docky are gone. I move Docky to right, add some docklets and change some setings like Panel mode, etc.
But when I shutdown my computer, next time I login I see Docky in it's default setting again!
note: In the current session when I `killall docky` and `docky` again, it works fine and reload my previous settings. The problem happens on Logout/Login.

i wanted to remove evolution mail and calendar since it was of no use to me..

and then the date and time which used to be visible on top right of my screen have suddenly disappeared..

Is there any way to change ubuntu one upload settings so that it only uploads 1 file at a time. I have slow upload speeds and the files don't always make it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a config file to toggle whether the screen is locked after hibernation? I looked all over preferences but if it's there, I missed it. In Ubuntu, the screen was always locked after waking up. In Squeeze, it's going directly to desktop. It's not a biggie but you never know when someone might try to access your account so I kind of liked that it would wake up locked. Maybe it's doing that because I'm the only user on the system?
