Is there any way to change ubuntu one upload settings so that it only uploads 1 file at a time. I have slow upload speeds and the files don't always make it.

i have a computer with 3 users on it, and a folder using samba that everyone on the network has access to. Lets say that, the folder is stored in /etc/sharedfolder. What happens is, when user1 puts a folder in it, then logs off, user 2 attempts to modify it and fails, because permission is set to 755, and they are not in the same group. (even if they were, it should still need to be 775) Anyway, my current solution is, every 5 minutes a crontab changes permission like so: chmod 777 -R /etc/sharedfiles && chown useradmin:superadmin -R /etc/sharedfiles Which works, but seeing as there is getting close to a gig in there, this is a bad solution, as it eats up the computers resources. Solutions that i think might work:
1) create a script that only changes permissions that need be changed.
2) change file permission settings to force all documents to inherit parent document settings
All my music is already synced, but every time a song finishes playing in Banshee, a notify OSD message appears letting me know that song is being uploaded to my Ubuntu One account. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 32 bit.

directories: chmod 570
files: chmod 460
Everything seems fine. Users from the developers group can edit files and all, but now we began using the Git repository, and whenever a user edits a file (ie. Joe who is a developer,) file permissions get screwed again. Now they're:
user: Joe
group: Joe
directories: chmod 755
files: chmod 644
How can I fix this so permissions remain the same?
When trying to copy files from a local folder into a directory that is a mapping of my QNAP server I get an error message " Read-only file system" - and this only since a couple of days.Trying to change ownership with sudo chown also failed.

I am comfortable with uploading the files from the machine to the server. The problem is making it easy to select all the desired files. What I would like to do is create an expandable file tree that lists all the directories and files on the local filesystem. From there, the user should be able to select directories and files using checkboxes. Upon clicking submit, all of the selected files should be fed into an array of files that can be sequentially uploaded to the ftp server.

Since the upload speed is quite low due to my isp I would like to execute a bash script that uploads a file to another server through a website (which is htaccess protected) The idea in general: Someone with access to my website browses through a folder, copies a file path to an input form and presses "upload". Rather than executing a bash script directly I could have a cron job running in background that finds the path and then uploads the file to the other server I have userspace on and is accessible via sftp/ssh. The file would be than erased later after a couple of days or so. That person would be able to access the file with higher speed some time later without logging in via ssh and doing all that manually.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe're having an issue with HTTP POST file uploads on our two Ubuntu PCs. For some reason, whenever one of our users attempts to submit a file in an HTML form, the request times out, usually with a 500 Internal Server Error message. This problem is not limited to one site, but occurs on all sites that use file uploads. Also, the problem does not appear to be with our network, as a Windows 7 PC on the same network can upload files to the same sites without any difficulties. The problem is not browser-specific; we have tested with Firefox, Epiphany, and Google Chrome and all produce the same results. The issue is relatively new, and was first observed within the last month; before this time, both machines had no problems uploading files.
Does anyone have ANY idea what could be causing this? I've tried a number of things, including rebooting the PCs, rebooting the network, disabling IPv6, etc. I'm not very experienced in Linux system administration, but I can use the terminal and am familiar with some terminal-based diagnostic tools, so if you need any additional info or want me to try something, please let me know! I've exhausted my own computer knowledge with regards to finding a solution to this problem.

The question is simple really, I've added a local universality's time server (what is public) and it's live. but it's added to the end of the default time servers what come with fedora. How do I get fedora to just use the local time server, is it a case of removing the default time servers for fedora, but there is a box what says advanced options which are. sync system clock before starting service ???? & use Local time source (( is that the same as the local ntp server that I've got set up ))Hope some body can help me with the network time protocol part of Date/Time settings.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need some help recovering from a "slight" screwup. We just moved 3 TB of data from one RAID Array to another. Low lever archive files. This was done with a regular cp (for some reason) and now we have lost all the timestamps on the files, and we urgently need to get the timestamps back on these files.
We are running Ubuntu 9.10 Server and we have mounted the following
1. /mnt/old-raid ##Old raid from the old server
2. /mnt/new-raid ##New raid on the server
I know we can read out the timestamp on the old server using the command stat -c '%Y' <<filname>>
I know we can change the timestamp of the file, using the command touch -d '<<date>>'
To get from the stat -c date to the input date in touch we need to use date -d @<<timestamp>> +'%d %b %Y %R'
So my question is, how can I create a loop that will list all files in a folder, get their timestamp and update the old timestamp with the new?
i made a video and i wanted to put it on my myspace(video upload) and it justs fade to grey and becomes unresponive. that it goes back to normal but no progress. so then i tried going to image shack and uploading a picture. can't do that either. tried mediafire, videos, vimeo, nothing.
so i tried on my desktop(desktop running 9.10 32 bit. laptop(the first one i tried) running 9.10 64 bit. it didn't work on that either. i know it's not my isp because it works on my ps3(no ubuntu). not my firewall and tried without without my router. didn't work either. i tried upgrading flash on both of them and on my desktop i can upload some pictures to imageshack now. nothing else though. i have tried using both firefox and opera.
i pinged yahoo and this is what i got:

I have CENTOS server with suPHP installed. The user (UID) and group (GID) are different for PHP files. But when I upload any file using FTP, it makes user:user and suphp fails to parse it. I then change the ownership (using ssh) as user:group for the php file and it works.

But it hangs in the middle. I am also unable to change my BIOS settings due to which i can"t change my boot preference. My first Boot is the HDD. I want to change it to CD-ROM. Any suggestion? I also have another PC where i can boot through the CD...I tried installing there by booting from the CD but i get this error message after seeing the purple Linux screen with the loading dots. With Azureus/Vuze, can we set an upload/download rate limit depending on the time of day?

I am trying to upload some pics on my Facebook account using Firefox. When I click on Facebook's file upload icon, Firefox bring up a 'File Upload' window. I noticed that smaller image file is previewed on the lower right hand corner, while bigger image file is not. According to the book the server should set the image in a cryptic folder in the /tmp/ folder.
This isn't working and i also try'd locate and find to find the image i uploaded. I checked the php.ini and file uploads were on but no folder so i set that one to /tmp/ but still no images. Can anyone help me with enabling this function?

On sync'ing the file is being uploaded, and eventually reaches 602191947 - and then nothing more happens to this file - but sync'ing the following files in the queue goes on with success. I have tried manual upload with the same result. The file is still being marked as 'uploading' even after several tries and log ins/log outs, and reboots. So I was just wondering whether there is a file size limit - can't seem to find information regarding this.
