Debian :: Num Lock Locked After Login

Jun 26, 2015

I have Debian 7 with LXDE installed on a msi-based-notebook. Immediately after i make the login (in graphics mode), the LED of "num lock key" turns on and lock, making the keyboard impossible to type properly.

I've tried to reconfigure keyboard, but it had no effect. And yes,i have tried to use the "Fn key + num lock" combination, but had no effect too.

Debian :: Login After Hibernation - Screen Always Locked After Wake Up?

May 22, 2011

Is there a config file to toggle whether the screen is locked after hibernation? I looked all over preferences but if it's there, I missed it. In Ubuntu, the screen was always locked after waking up. In Squeeze, it's going directly to desktop. It's not a biggie but you never know when someone might try to access your account so I kind of liked that it would wake up locked. Maybe it's doing that because I'm the only user on the system?

Ubuntu :: Cannot Login From Locked Screen?

Nov 4, 2010

I can't log in from a locked screen anymore, such as when returning fromeep or hibernation. I can, however, work around the problem by clicking "switch user" and logging in from the GDM greeting screen. Logging in from a terminal also works.I recently had a problem where /etc/passwd, /etc/groups and some other files were deleted. But I have restored them - otherwise I couldn't log in at all.

Ubuntu Security :: Locked-Screen Login Window Vulnerability?

General :: Keyboard Layout Changed - Screen Locked Now Cannot Login

Aug 8, 2010

While I was away from my computer a friend changed my keyboard layout to a random layout thinking he could revert it via mouse actions only. Unfortunately, by the time I returned, my screen was locked. Now I cannot unlock my session to get back in to the KDE session to restore the correct keyboard layout.

However, I can log in to a console. In the console (e.g., Ctrl-Alt-F1), the keyboard layout is unchanged, so I can edit any text files and make any other changes required. How can I change the KDE keyboard layout from a console? I'm running Kubuntu 10.04. There is no .kderc file in my home directory. And Xorg.conf doesn't contain the settings either. I'm not sure where else to look.

Fedora :: Lock At Boot Up Before Get Into The Login Screen

Nov 20, 2009

I just installed Fedora 12 earlier today using preupgrade. Everything seems to work alright, but I do have a couple of problems. I've had this happen twice already, but when I'm booting up, my machine will freeze once the Fedora logo is shown right before I get into the login screen. Another problem I've had is when I do boot into KDE I'll see an ! icon next to the clock telling me that there has been a crash in the kernel.

Edit: Update- It only hangs when I reboot. If I restart in windows and try to boot fedora, it hangs, if I restart in Fedora, it will hang after the restart. The only way I can boot Fedora is from a cold boot

Edit: I seemed to have fixed the problem after searching Google for 20 minutes. I just ran this command as root.. #chcon -t system_dbusd_exec_t /bin/dbus-daemon

Do I need any other option in the PAM file? Is there any other way to lock an account?

Security :: Lock User Accounts After Too Many Login Failures?

Jun 8, 2010

I am trying to disable accounts after 5 unsuccessful login attempts. I am following the guidelines in this article:

[URL]

This is on an Oracle Enterprise 5.4 box, which is essentially RHEL 5.4 Here is what my /etc/pam.d/system-auth looks like:

--------
#%PAM-1.0
# This file is auto-generated.
# User changes will be destroyed the next time authconfig is run.

[code]....

Unfortunately, the account does not seem to be locked or disabled. As root, runninng 'su test2 -c <some-command>' always sucessfully runs <some-command>, and leaves the failed attempt count at 6. /etc/shadow does not have an * or ! anywhere in the encrypted password for the 'test1' user.

What am I doing wrong? I thought that with the max attempts set to 0 in faillog, that the deny= parameter would be used. I thought I should be using su <user> -c <command> from the root account to test if the disable feature is working.

Apr 22, 2010

I have a new Lenovo (thinkpad) x100e laptop. I've recently installed the new Ubuntu 10.02 distro and have found the oddest bug. If my power cord is disconnected (i.e. if I'm running off battery power) then the login window locks up. Conversely, if the power cord _is_ connected then things work as usually. (Also, trying to adjust brightness causes a crash --- but I suspect that this is not odd). Where I should put this information.

Ubuntu Security :: Automatic Login With Enforced Screen Lock

Aug 30, 2010

Is there a way to set Linux to automatically log in to a specific user account and at the same time lock the screen? I want to save time and trigger various software that always should start up on boot, while leaving the computer unattended during startup (extra important and practical for remote control boots), by enforcing a 'screen lock' so that no-one can see what happens behind the login screen without entering the login credentials.

Is there any way of bypassing this and unlock my ubuntu desktop?

Is it possible to recover these files? Since they are in use and locked by Virtualbox I guess they still are completely intact and fine on the disk, but that they will be permanently deleted once VirtualBox stops.

Ubuntu :: Sudo-apt Get Not Working - Not Get Lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock Resource Temporarily Unavailable

I recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 on an old Sony Vaio laptop. I was following some of the steps here..[url]

The step "Enable Full DVD Playback(Dual Layer DVD Support)" did not finish correctly doh and now I can't use 'sudo apt-get' for anything or the software center or using the 'Update Manager' does not work.

The update manger says it may be caused by an update not finishing correctly which sounds correct as explained above. The apt-get command gives me back the following....'Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock resource temporarily unavailable' 'unable to lock administration directory /var/lib/dpkg is another process using it?'

I tried the obvious restart but that hasn't worked.
