Dec 30, 2015

Debian :: Hibernating After X Seconds / Minutes After Suspend

Feb 19, 2016

I followed a guide with the hopes of my computer waking from suspend after a defined number of seconds (for testing purposes, 4 seconds).

Per the guide, I've added a file: /etc/pm/config.d/00-use-suspend-hybrid

Code: Select all# Always use suspend_hybrid instead of suspend
if [ "$METHOD" = "suspend" ]; then
  METHOD=suspend_hybrid
fi

# The delay after which hibernation gets triggered (default: 900 seconds, 15 minutes):
PM_HIBERNATE_DELAY=4

After four seconds of suspend, it continues suspending, and doesn't go into full hibernate.

Ubuntu :: Lock Screen When Suspending Or Hibernating?

Dec 8, 2010

How can you do that in lubuntu 10.04? In xubuntu 9.10 I could do that, if I use gnome-power-manager and gnome-screensaver, and use gnome-power-manager's icon to suspend/hibernate, but I don't see that kind of option in lubuntu.

Debian Configuration :: How To Forcibly Disable Laptop Close From Suspending

Debian Hardware :: Touchpad Doesn't React After Hibernating

Oct 24, 2014

I have installed Jessie on my Dell Inspiron 7340 and the touchpad works fine with xserver-xorg-input-synaptics. However, when the system wakes up from hibernation or standby , the touchpad doesn't react.

In /proc/bus/input/devices there are - among others - the following sections:

Code: Select allI: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0001 Version=0000
N: Name="PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
P: Phys=isa0060/serio1/input0
S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input35
U: Uniq=

[Code] ...

When the touchpad works, the "PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" section isn't there.

Debian Hardware :: Black Screen After Suspending Jessie

Aug 22, 2015

I can't suspend my laptop because after suspending the system and pressing the power button I only get a black screen. As Debian wiki suggests, if CapsLock LED works the system is still running, which is not my case. I don't know why the system doesn't get back control.

No matter if I press Fn+Sleep keys, go to the Xfce menu, or type:

Code: Select all$ pm-suspend
$ systemctl suspend

Anyhow I get the same result.

I've already followed some other posts but they didn't solve my problem:

Upgrade/update ruined suspend/hibernate in Jessie
Debian 8 resume issue (ATI card)

It's tough to debug since I need to restart the laptop everytime I try.

Debian Hardware :: USB Mouse (possibly) Suspending Randomly / Jessie

Jan 7, 2015

I think my USB mouse randomly suspends, at the very least it freezes. It is plugged into a USB switch, I have to either unplug the mouse and plug it back in, or switch it to a different computer for it to come back, sometimes it freezes within seconds again.

How can I resolve this. I looked at [URL] ...., but had problems following the folder hierarchy.

NOTE: laptop-mode-tools, powertop NOT installed.

lsusb reveals:

Code:

Select allBus 003 Device 010: ID 046d:c50e Logitech, Inc. Cordless Mouse Receiver
Device Descriptor:
  bLength                18
  bDescriptorType         1
  bcdUSB               1.10
bDeviceClass            0 (Defined at Interface level)
  bDeviceSubClass         0
  bDeviceProtocol         0

[Code] ....

I'm not sure where I can find Bus 003 Device 010 to check 'power/control' for 'auto'.

Debian Installation :: LXDE Session Only Lasts 10 Seconds?

Apr 18, 2010

I have just upgraded to the latest testing packages with aptitude and now when I log in I get 2 error messages. One is "Your session only lasted less than 10 seconds. If you have not logged out yourself, this could mean that there is some installation problem or that you may be out of diskspace. Try logging in with one of the failsafe sessions to see if you can fix this problem." and then if I click on view details I get "/etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup..." As long if I don't click OK the system (LXDE) is completely usable and the only thing that doesn't seem to be working properly is wifi - I think I was using network manager which doesn't seem to be loading. The other error message is: "GTK+ icon theme is not properly set This usually means you don't have an XSETTINGS manager running. Desktop environment like GNOME or XFCE automatically execute their XSETTING managers like gnome-settings-daemon or xfce-mcs-manager.

If you don't use these desktop environments, you have two choices:

1. run an XSETTINGS manager, or

2. simply specify an icon theme in ~/.gtkrc-2.0.

For example to use the Tango icon theme add a line: gtk-icon-theme-name="Tango" in your ~/.gtkrc-2.0. (create it if no such file)

NOTICE: The icon theme you choose should be compatible with GNOME, or the file icons cannot be displayed correctly. Due to the differences in icon naming of GNOME and KDE, KDE themes cannot be used. Currently there is no standard for this, but it will be solved by freedesktop.org in the future." clicking OK brings up icons etc. and desktop background. I am using an SSD and when I set up the laptop I think that I made /tmp a folder on a ram disk (and maybe a few other temporary files as well). Could this have anything to do with these error messages? (one also pops up about battery empty when the battery is still @ 100% but that is less irritating)

Ubuntu :: Laptop Become Idle If Don't Move The Mouse For A Few Seconds

Sep 5, 2010

I have a laptop Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 2550 and if I don't move the mouse for a few seconds becomes idle. Sometimes become idle after 1-2 seconds, sometimes after 1 minute. When that happens everything stops including sound, but when I move the mouse everything go back to normal.

(that's happening with the newer alsa driver) On ubuntu 10.04(which use a later alsa driver) I can prevent the laptop become idle if I listen music but the sound stop sometimes for a second. (seems like is an alsa driver problem) Right now the best solution is to install OSS driver and to play music all the time.

Ubuntu :: Toshiba Laptop - Hardware - Screen Goes Blank After Few Seconds - From Turning On

Sep 16, 2010

I'd like your input on this. A toshiba laptop screen goes blank after few seconds(from turning on).

At first i thought it was fan that was out and once it got hot enough it cut the laptop off like my old Acer did.

But after close examination i noticed that it continues working. HD still spining and fan blows..

Example: Turn on>Hit F2 to go in to Bios> Bios screen appears>Before i have a chance to do anything it geos blank but continues working> I hit Cntrl ALt Del> it resets and screen comes right back up>second later it goes blank again.

ALSO the toshiba logo and whole screen seems to have a red tint to it.

I also get a media test error but that is likely from hard drive not being there during some of the tests.

DO you think it can be an LCD Backlight issue? or possibly video card?

Debian Installation :: Install Debian Next To Ubuntu 10.04 On Laptop?

Oct 9, 2010

I have a question: I'd like to install Debian next to Ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. I've been searching on the web but I can't figure out what to download and what to install. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 1355LC that runs on an AMD Athlon XP processor. Also when I install Debian, will it recognise my Linksys WUSB 54 wireless device? (I've read somewhere that it could be that WLAN connections aren't supported with the net instal Cd) I know there's a lot that I'm asking, but I really want to learn more about Debian.

Debian :: Moving SSD With Installation To Another Laptop

Sep 24, 2015

I've installed years back Debian on my laptop. Last year i did upgrade, i putted an ssd in my old laptop which works great with debian.

Now I bought a new laptop, to replace my old one. Because my new laptop doesn't have an SSD installed, i want to replace the harddrive by the SSD from my old laptop.

Now so said, so done. I replaced the hard drive easy by the ssd. Now if i boot the new laptop with the ssd installed i'm getting message from EUFI/BIOS that there is no OS installed on the ssd???

Debian is installed on it! If a place back the ssd in my old laptop, it's booting like it should, so it's working. Why is EUFI/BIOS think there is no OS installed? Debian is installed on the ssd so it should work i think?
