Fedora Servers :: How To Setup A Intel Xenon Power Edge 1900
Aug 31, 2009
I need to setup a Intel Xenon power edge 1900 server, which fedora version (10 or 11) suits it best and whether I should go for 64bit or 32bit (If I go with 64 bit some applications wont support it). I also have another issue, currently on another Intel Xenon power edge 1900 server on which Fedora 9 32bit version is installed, tough the server has 8GB ram, fedora can access only 3.2 GB. How can I solve this issue and will it repeat in the new server where I install fedora(10 or 11).
I'm running FC12 x64on a Dell PE2950 to host some virtual guests, but FC12 host drops CPU errors (IERR asserted) and reboots whenever CPU utilization jumps above 30-40%. Found mention here from end of 2007 checked /proc/cpuinfo and DO have the 38 bit addressing processorsDoes anyone know if there's a kernel module I can load or am I going to have to custom build a kernel with that module available? What mod is it?
Im having a bit of an issue installing Ubuntu Server 10.04 on a Dell Power Edge 1850. I am running RAID1 via the onboard PERC4 controller that is set to emulate MASS storage. I am able to boot from the disk and run through the initial setup, however, when I give it the go ahead to start the partitioning it hangs up on 33%. It does this on both the Guided full disk and guided full disk LVM. I have run a check on the disk as well as memory.
I am running Ubuntu 8.04LTS x64 on a Dell Poweredge 1900 with a Perc 5i RAID Controller. There are 3 500Gb SAS drives in a RAID 5 configuration. The Kernel is Linux dtpfs 2.6.24-27-server #1 SMP Wed Jan 27 23:39:33 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux Approximately once every 1 - 2 months I have a problem where the disk usage starts to rise for no apparent reason. When I run df the usage grows steadily over 2-3 days from 26% to 100%. At this point Samba reports that the disks are full. Baobab does not report the additional usage and the tape backup ignores the 'extra' usage and just backs up what was previously there. When I reboot the machine the usage is set back to normal and we can continue.
Actually we are trying to upgrade Memory in Dell PowerEdge 1850 it has 3 memory banks and each bank has 2 slots and it supports max of 12 gig and 16 gig we r2 4gig rams. The box is running with Debian Os with kernel 2.4.X we have upgraded the bank-1 and bank-2 with 2*2G.B rams total of 4 RAms with 8 G.B The Problem is Bios is showing 8 GIG but at the operating system level it is showing about 3049 gig instead of showing 8 GIG.
I'm having problem in installing debian 7.5.0 on Dell Power Edge R 470 1U Rack Server ( Not Sure If am using RAID 1 ) whereby the hard drive is not detected. This server is running 2 Proc/2x1.2 SAS HDD . The installation went ok until i reached into partition section whereby the drives is not there to be selected , throwing an error " No disk drive detected , Driver needed fro your disk drive "
I've tried to use debian-7.8.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso
My server details: Dell Power Edge R 470 32GB RAM 2 x 1.2 TB SAS HDD
Im trying to limit the diskspace users on the system may consume, and i found quotas (im a total linux noob). But when i try to set it, no matter what i set it to the maximus is 2 GB. Now... i need quite a lot more than that. One user should be able to use 1900 GB and the other 600 GB. How can i fix this? Im using ubuntu server 10.04.
According to firestarter, there's some process on my machine that keeps trying to access port 1900, every two minutes exactly. I don't know what it is. I've tried netstat -tnlp, but it doesn't show up. Presumably I have to do it at the exact second the process is trying to access the port. Does anyone know of a bash subroutine that will keep doing netstat -pl until it finds a process on port 1900?
Been trying to setup SSH on the Linux box for a long time and still no success.
AIM: To be able to SSH from the internet.
I CAN ssh locally. I CAN ssh on the LAN to the Linux box. I have even changed distro from Ubuntu to Fedora.
Everytime I try to SSH from the internet I get connection timed out.... I have setup port forwarding correctly on my Netgear router, when a SSH request hits the router I can see it in the logs. I have port forward setup for FTP service to my windows 2003 box which all works fine, so port forward works and I know what im doing regards that.
"iptables -L" shows no policies in place, the GUI firewall is DISABLED.
Even tried service iptables stop
I have made no changes to sshd_config, its set to standard port 22. At this moment in time I dont care about firewalls/security just need to get this working as a inbound request comming in from the internet.
This is very likely a silly question but .. where is the power management setup in KDE? I have set it up before in Slackware 13.1 but now that I'm running 13.37 I'd like to set it up again but can't seem to recall where to set it up.
i have been searching ways to setup an ftp server. but it seems, everything i tried does not work or not what i wanted.how to setup an ftp server, allowing only permitted users. I'm using the desktop edition live cd.
I have Fedora 12 x86_64 installed in my computer. I have also installed system-config-httpd, but when I go to System --> Administration --> Server Settings --> HTTP, nothing shows up.
I put together a little computer recently to hook to a TV.The problem I'm having is that when I start the computer up and get to the desktop... the desktop is off the edges of the screen. I checked the resolution and it's 1920x1080.I can't see the panels my applications menu, as they're both off the edge of the screen. Is there anything that can be done to correct this? Also, the TV has no settings to correct this problem.
I'm trying to setup eRuby on my Apache server, and I'm having problems. Currently, I have this in a separate config file in "/etc/httpd/conf.d/eruby.conf":
I have a small office setup all on public ips and was trying to work out the best way to move the wearhouse computers on to private ips and leave offices on public ips I have server with 2 nics and i have two switches What i am after is how to set it up so all computers can still see each other but private can not access net All the office computers via switch 1 Public IPs All the wearhouse computers via switch 2 Private IPs
1 DHCP server 3 Routers from ISPs going to switch one Both switches going to DHCP Server
I'm trying to setup nagios, and I've looked at several guides but none of them seem to address my problem. Here's the clearest guide that I followed URl...I followed all the instructions on that basica guide, except disabling SELinux. I changed SELinux rules based on URL...I'm not getting any AVC Denials, so that's not the problem. Nagios and Apache both start fine. If I go to my local IP, I get the standard Apache test page. URl...(address from all the guides I read) doesn't resolve.I know that Nagios is at least running from "service nagios status," and I have gotten two alerts emailed to me: swap alert (I don't have swap configured) and disk space.
I've installed Fedora 12 Desktop in order to develop a simple website, which is going to use some PHP.
I will need:code editor to write html/css/php local apache server running php browser how to get me up and running in no time with least extra configurations.
Bonus: I'm going to run all this in a virtual box on my company computer. I'd love to be able to stay undercover with this, so if one of you can tell me how to configure the apache server not to be too visible to the company network/domain, that'd be excellent.
You are running tftpd as an on demand server i.e. it is only fired up when it is needed. Services run by xinetd are always run on demand. Have you actually tested if tftp on another system can access your PC i.e.
As I do not want to entrust my firefox data Mozilla's Server and have a server runnig anyway, I wanted to setup a server which provides weave service. I found this and know from different sources of the web that this indeed works: [URL] It is a stripped down Weave server intended for personal use. All in all, it does not sound to complicated. The developer says

You ll need a relatively recent php with sqlite, mbstring and json support, and apache, preferably running ssl. Give it a shot and let me know how it worked for you in the comments. I have Fedora 14. Only problem is that Fedora does not provide a php-sqlite package. For this I found a repo [URL] So I installed php-sqlite (as well as php-pdo, php-cli and php common) with
Code:
yum --enablerepo=remi intstall php-sqlite
In consequense all php releted stuff was replayed by remi provided packages. In addition I installed json to get JSON support. The author describes the setup quite easy as follow:
Quote:
SERVER SETUP
Add the following line to your apache config:
Alias /weave /<path to this folder>/index.php
Restart your apache server. Point your browser at h[URL]. Enter "blah" for the username and garbage for the pwd. Auth will fail, but it will create the db (you can cancel the subsequent request for auth). You should now see a file called weave_db in the directory.
You can create and delete users by running the create_user script.
CLIENT SETUP
in about.config, set extensions.weave.serverURL to [URL] You can run it under http, but this is insecure and not recommended. If I disable or set SELinux to permissive mode I can point my browser to [URL] Here starts the trouble. After attemping to login no weave_db is created. I tried even 777 permission in that directory. I can run the create_user script with php and add a user, but the database does not seem to be recognized, I am unable to login into weave service.
I know what I need to do I just cant seem to achieve it and that is correctly setup a DNS server that works over the internet, I'm using BIND9 with webmin. I have Fedora 14 - Apache is install its all working locally, so this final step I just can't grasp to be honest.
I need the complete reference guide to set up my own SQUID transparent proxy Server with Gateway support. I am using Fedora 14. Please help me with LINKS/REFERENCE. I am a learner in Squid.
I ended up setting up a basic linux file server as a pdc for that office. Our main office is a windows 2000 ads domain. The two offices are connected with a vpn. I only have two users at the new location so I simply have the linux and samba usernames/passwords setup manually. I would like to know if it is possible to setup a domain trust between the two sites so I don't have to create a username/password in the remote site for every user at the main office to access. I did some searching but came up empty.
