View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a k3806-z vodafone mobile broadband modem, on ubuntu 10.04. I have added the mobile broadband connection with the network manager wizard. But network manager does not list my connection. I installed usb-modeswitch and usb-modeswitch-data. Still nothing. The disc utility tells me it recognises the modem as a cd drive and a storage device. Evidently usb-modeswitch is not working.
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy PC crashed and I replaced Windows XP with Ubuntu. My laptop is still on Windows. Haven't been able to connect to the internet on my PC, Linux IT guy told me there was an issue with drivers on Ubuntu. Was told the Ubuntu community would know how to fix this. I've been reading through the posts and found a similar sort of problem posted with a solution posted also. The solution it seemed, lay in the Sakis website. I went to the Sakis website and downloaded Sakis3G onto my memory stick via my laptop. I need to get internet connectivity on my PC. My friend advised me to put the stick into the PC and then to open the terminal and type the following commands: gunzip sakis3g.g2 > chmod+xsakis3g > /sakis3g --interactive. Each command on a new line however after typing the first line: gunzip sakis3g.g2, I got 'No such file or directory'.

I need Internet on the road so brought a netbook and a USB Mobile Broadband stick. I've followed the installation instructions provided by the provider but this still does not work. I've also tried a couple of similar installation instructions found around the net. Has anybody had any luck getting this to work in Fedora 14? How did you or how can I get this to work?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm new here. This is my first post. Something tells me my problem will be met with great sighs and shrugs of shoulders. I think you may have heard this problem just a few thousand times. couple of days ago i took the plunge and installed Ubuntu 9.10. I already run XP Pro. I have the system set for dual booting until i get to grips with Linux and have all that i use daily from software to hardware comprehesively installed and running. then i have this ideal romantic dream of dumping my microsoft heartache, and living a happy life with the new love in town (an OS that works!)
Vodafone (Huawei K3520) mobile broadband dongle. Yes i know its a touchy subject but i am going cross-eyed reading info on various forums from this one to the betavine forums and a detour through vodafone themselves. I just can't find clear concise info on how to get this dongle up and running with Ubuntu. My laptop is Acer Aspire 5633 WLMi. I would really really appreciate your help on this subject i need to get online with this dongle and Ubuntu.
I have a Vodafone mobile broadband dongle for the United Kingdom. The installation software is for Windows and Macs only. In Windows it works fine. If I plug the dongle in the USB in Ubuntu then it is recognised but the installation does not start (quite understandably). So I tried using wine with the Windows executable. It starts off promisingly, then hangs. Some files are created along with desktop icons but the installation does not complete.
I have seen here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...light=vodafone) the comment that Vodafone installation can be tricky. So, can any kind person tell me if it is possible to get Vodafone dongles working under 10.04? Also, are there any other UK broadband pay-as-you-go dongles that will work? I have seen in a very recent post that "3" seems to be plug-and-play?
I want to use my laptop to share network for VoIP adapter. I'm using mobile stick as well as wi-fi and Network manager under Gnome 3. Voip adapter asks for address via DHCP to gain the access to the server some where in the other side of the world.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having problems with my 3 dongle- when I connect it to my netbook it flashes green so it detects a 3G network. However there is nothing in network manager enabling me to choose the mobile broadband so I can't use it. I know there should be an entry "mobile broadband" after the wireless networks listed.
I know the dongle works because I have previously used it successfully- I was using Linux Mint 8 and have now updated to version 9 and when I have tried to use it have been unable to do so.
I have gone into the connections and my 3 connection is present but there is no way for me to select it in network manager.
I have a broadband mobile modem iCon 225 (Option) with SiMobil provider (Slovenia). I run ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala). I connect to the internet without problem. After a few minutes, the modem lights start signaling that there is no connection, but the network manager shows connected status. I have to reconnect the network manager to regain connection. After about a dozen times of reconnecting like this, I have to reboot the system, as it won't connect, even if I unplug and replug the modem.
I've noticed these frequent disconnects have started a few days ago. I did experience disconnects in the past, but as nearly often as this. I can't attribute disconnects to activity/inactivity, as they seem to happen no matter what I do.
Does anybody have ideas how to make this Vodafone Mobile Connect Card model GLOBETROTTER by Option work on this compaq nx9005?

I am having problems connecting to the internet using a mobile dongle. I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 and am attempting to use a Vodafone ZTE K3570-Z on pay as you go. I have followed instructions to the letter, installing software downloaded from Betavine and attempted various alternatives, but cannot get connected. The dongle works fine using Windows. This is currently my only source for the internet at home, so am becoming desperate. If I do not get this problem sorted out I will be forced to return to windows xp os.

Has anybody managed to get this stick to work with Suse 11.4 ? I have read the following thread :[URL]..which shows that it can work with Gentoo, but I am afraid that I am not competent enough to understand this. The stick is showing up in my hardware manager as a comunications device on /udev/ttyUSB0 but it is not being recognised as a networking device anywhere. I have also attempted to write a rules.d file for it, ( 15-zte-mf180.rules) and have saved this under /etc/udev/rules.d/ and also under /lib/udev/rules.d/ but again I am unsure if I have a). written the correct file, and b) pointed to it in the correct ways.

I have an acer 532h aspire one, running ubuntu 10.04.
Basically, I bought a Telstra Turbo USB broadband stick and I've been having a bit of hell getting it to work. First I couldn't get the computer to recognize it had been plugged in at all. I downloaded the modeswitch packages to no avail. I tried a few other terminal tweaks but they didn't change anything either. I left the card in and restarted the netbook and it finally recognized the wireless card. I was able to surf the internet for an hour or so a couple times. But after stowing the computer away for a couple hours and turning it on again, I found that this work around was no longer effective. So now I'm back to the blue light never blinking and I have to tether my phone and pay ridiculous data charges because I'm in the middle of nowhere.
I'm really new at troubleshooting things that don't work right out of the box.
It's a telstra turbo prepaid wireless broadband. The stick isn't even recognized as removable media.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to get a USB modem stick to work with Karmic. The modem is the ZTE MF626 HSDPA on a Telstra Next G plan.I've followed all the guides and links on the forums:Have deactivated the CD autorun on the USB stick in XP lsusb is showing "Bus 002 Device 003:ID 19d2:0031 ONDA Communication S.p.A." demsg is showing "usb 2-2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1"This seems stable as well, ie checking periodically it doesn't seem to be disconnecting By the way,the blue light indicating network communication/modem active lights up after the device has been plugged in for a second or so.
When I go through Network Connections and add a new mobile broadband connection, there is nothing listed in the "Create a connection for this mobile broadband device" drop-down on the first configuration screen - all the guides I've read say that it should be listed here, but none say any debug steps if it doesn't.Some other guides for older versions of Ubuntu and earlier versions of the modem reference a "/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/20thirdparty/20-zte-mf626.fdi"file which I don't have.
I have installed the files from Betavine - SuSE Linux Drivers and installed it by clicking the rpms and installing now the error is this- Vodafone Mobile Connect needs the following files and dirs with some specific permissions in order to work properly: /etc/ppp/chap-secrets should have 0660 mode, found 0666 /etc/ppp/peers should be readable and writtable by group root user Rob should be a member of group root

Then apt-get clean
Then apt-get install network-manager...
But still 0.8 version is downloaded and installed! How can I restore Karmic's version?
I'm using a 'ice.net' D-50 (CDMA EV-DO rev A) mobile broadband USB modem, also sold as Cmotech CNU-680 in other areas. The modem is connected to a USB port on a hp8710w mobile workstation.
As the 11.2 Gnome Network Manager won't connect this modem to Internet (see my first post here), I have downloaded and installed a 'D50 Modem Manager program' from [url]
After unpacking and installing this cmotech-qtmodem-1.6-1.i586.rpm package for suse on 11.2 x86_64, the gui application 'D-50 Modem Manager' is found in the Internet Group.
However, neither this program does connect the D-50 modem really on 11.2 x86_64 (as it did on 11.1 x86_64). Tried both traditional network setup and with Network Manager.
Any idea and suggestion how to trobleshoot this further? I think I've seen that a newer version cmotech-qtmodem 1.9 has been mentioned on the web, but without being able to find and download this version.
Command output as follows:
As normal user:
On the Modem Manager gui: D-50 modem is ready
From Login script Debug window:
As root:
It seemed like the modem connected, but Firefox was not able to connect afterwards (Server not found)
