So here's the thing: I have a mobile broadband pcmcia card that worked just well on jaunty, but as I installed karmic it doesn't work, coz it mounts the card's storage but doesn't recognize the hardware. The help says I need the package 'udev-extras', but there's no such package for karmic and the one for jaunty doesn't work with karmic.

I've got an XP pro SP3 Vm in Virtualbox with Vodafone Mobile Connect installed. The USB dongle is detected by virtual box and I've tried passing it through with and without a filter enabled for it. Both times it was listed with the USB keyboard and mouse, all were greyed out. In Windows Ddevice Manager there's a entry for a USB Mobile Internet controller but the Vodafone Mobile Connect software isn't picking up the device. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and teh latest Virtualbox downloaded from the website with the PUEL extensions pack so I can have USB.

I've been using my Huawei (Vodafone) modem since around two weeks, and so far it's been great, except for a little detail: sometimes, them modem simply won't work. I plug it in, "cd" drive (where the Vodafone Mobile Connect files are) shows up, but no "Vodafone" on Network-Manager.
I believe this has something to do with settings the modem may leave behind after each use, but I'm quite newb, so.
Im running Pure:Dyne, an audio-centric distro, and so far I have not been able to get my usb modem to work. Im using a Huawei EC168 and my carrier is Alltel. Im totally new to Debian as well... Im doing this off of a live disc then I plan to install it once I know Ill be able to use my internet (its my only internet...) The card doesnt seem to be recognized other than as a storage drive or something, since its preloaded with the software for windows that comes with it.

The problem is that I have no clue what information I am supposed to give when configuring it through KNetwork manager. The password is disabled and I think the username should be telenor which is my ISP, the other info lines in KNetwork manager, however, I am very uncertain of, and I can't seem to get it working. I have switched from traditional setup with ifup to user controlled through Network Manager and the modem is detected. The module option seems to be loaded and the 'mode' of the stick seems also to be correct, it is not detected as a storage device at least.
I have got a netgear wireless PC Card WG511 made in Taiwan (not china). I have intalled it in windows w/acouple of ver. Settling on v1. I am first generation pc. maybe toold for Linux? I can't even figure out how to post in the Dam Small Linux website. But have read most of the posts in linux questions. I can't install a wireless card ;<( this is an old laptop and would be like usable if I get the *&^%$ wireless working. In fact, does anyone have a wireless card working with Dam Small Linux? I have the book but, it's not been much help. Other that telling me to add nodhcp in the boot startup. That didn't help either. I have learned alot through this misery of the wireless nic.

I am concentrating on a 3Com 3CCE589EC card which seems to be on the supported list. It works fine under Windows 2000 on the same computer so I believe the hardware is OK. When I insert it the following messages are shown in /var/log/messages:

I am trying to make a d-link dwl-650+ pcmcia card work through ndiswrapper method following the direction at:[URl]... The first step there is to install the "kmod-ndiswrapper" via yum.
But, how would I just download this package to a usb drive so that I can transfer it to the laptop that needs wireless networking. Is there an option in yum where I can just download the package, not intstall, so that I can save it somewhere?

the card works fine in xubuntu jaunty, doesn't in xubuntu karmic or ubuntu karmic. i (my wife) wants to use ubutun karmic, but we still can't get this ATMEL PCMCIA wirelesscard to work on ubuntu karmic like it does on jaunty... and we have the windows INF drivers
I need Internet on the road so brought a netbook and a USB Mobile Broadband stick. I've followed the installation instructions provided by the provider but this still does not work. I've also tried a couple of similar installation instructions found around the net. Has anybody had any luck getting this to work in Fedora 14? How did you or how can I get this to work?

Haven't been able to connect to the internet on my PC, Linux IT guy told me there was an issue with drivers on Ubuntu. Was told the Ubuntu community would know how to fix this. I've been reading through the posts and found a similar sort of problem posted with a solution posted also. The solution it seemed, lay in the Sakis website. I went to the Sakis website and downloaded Sakis3G onto my memory stick via my laptop. I need to get internet connectivity on my PC. My friend advised me to put the stick into the PC and then to open the terminal and type the following commands: gunzip sakis3g.g2 > chmod+xsakis3g > /sakis3g --interactive. Each command on a new line however after typing the first line: gunzip sakis3g.g2, I got 'No such file or directory'.

Vodafone (Huawei K3520) mobile broadband dongle. Yes i know its a touchy subject but i am going cross-eyed reading info on various forums from this one to the betavine forums and a detour through vodafone themselves. I just can't find clear concise info on how to get this dongle up and running with Ubuntu. My laptop is Acer Aspire 5633 WLMi. I have a Vodafone mobile broadband dongle for the United Kingdom. The installation software is for Windows and Macs only. In Windows it works fine. If I plug the dongle in the USB in Ubuntu then it is recognised but the installation does not start (quite understandably). So I tried using wine with the Windows executable. It starts off promisingly, then hangs. Some files are created along with desktop icons but the installation does not complete.
I have seen here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...light=vodafone) the comment that Vodafone installation can be tricky. So, can any kind person tell me if it is possible to get Vodafone dongles working under 10.04? Also, are there any other UK broadband pay-as-you-go dongles that will work? I have seen in a very recent post that "3" seems to be plug-and-play?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a k3806-z vodafone mobile broadband modem, on ubuntu 10.04. I have added the mobile broadband connection with the network manager wizard. But network manager does not list my connection. I installed usb-modeswitch and usb-modeswitch-data. Still nothing. The disc utility tells me it recognises the modem as a cd drive and a storage device. Evidently usb-modeswitch is not working.

I was able to map the volume up and volume down buttons to the proper function using System - Preferences - Keyboard Shortcuts. I need to map the Internet Browser, Email, Search, and Media Player to the other Easy Access Buttons that Compaq has on this keyboard. Has anyone had success using programs like keyTouch to get this accomplished? Should I be considering other solutions?

ifcfg-wlan0 is set for DHCP. Notice above no IP. If ifcfg is given an IP/mask still no IP. So it seems to be up and running, just not accessible.
I have an old PCMCIA card and I would like to use in a newly installed centos5.6. I want to use, but I do not know how. ifconfig-a does not return the card details. I can see the pci devices both the controller and the PCMCIA card as well. I read, I have to load the kernel module yenta to use the pcimcia card, but I couldn't. The /sbin/modprobe -l | grep "yenta" does not return anything, and do not have either of these modules in library
