Fedora Installation :: Couldn't Get My Mobile Broadband To Work On The Live CD

Mar 22, 2010

I have just installed fedora12 from the Live CD couldn't get my mobile broadband to work on the Live CD, thought I would go ahead and install anyway and hoped for more success from the installation.

But nothing seems to work. I have tried just plugging it in and waiting for it to be registered, I have tried various manual set ups including enabling point to point encryption in the VPN manager and nothing seems to work at all.

The device is a Huawei K3520 USB modem.

Am I just doing something really stupid or is there some obscure method to get this working.

This is the only internet connection which i have available at the moment so anything I download will have to be done through Windows and copied across, i.e. I can't use YUM.

lsusb returns the following:

Not sure where the E620 comes from the model number on the case is k3520

Ubuntu :: Mobile Broadband Networking : Card Won't Connect Right / Get It To Work?

Mar 10, 2010

Since my recent re-conversion into Ubuntu, I noticed Network-Manager now has mobile broadband support out of the box. Splendid!

I've been using my Huawei (Vodafone) modem since around two weeks, and so far it's been great, except for a little detail: sometimes, them modem simply won't work. I plug it in, "cd" drive (where the Vodafone Mobile Connect files are) shows up, but no "Vodafone" on Network-Manager.
I believe this has something to do with settings the modem may leave behind after each use, but I'm quite newb, so.

Debian :: Mobile Broadband On Squeeze ?

Aug 7, 2011

I have an Asus K50IJ laptop and everything works great, but now I'm moving house and need to switch to a mobile broadband dongle. From what I can tell the major providers here in the UK don't support Linux, so I'm hoping someone can help me with the question of mobile broadband on debian and what does and doesn't work by default. I'm happy to get my hands dirty and keep learning about linux and debian, but I'm definitely still a beginner in both. I couldn't find what I needed searching the man pages, wiki or forum, but point in me in the right direction if you think I've missed something useful. Ideally I'd like to use Virgin Mobile so I've asked them for specs on the dongle they supply and I'll post that info when I get it. Any help would really be appreciated as I rely on the internet pretty heavily.

Fedora :: F14 Updates When Using Mobile Broadband?

In the previous versions of Fedora, the check for updates when connected through mobile broadband appeared disabled, which made sense as I don't want updates when connected through a mobile phone but will wait until I'm connected through either ethernet or wifi.

Took my laptop into work on Friiday (9am Friday is the time concert tickets go onsale). Connected to mobile broadband using Fedora 14 and got the updates available icon, surely this shouldn't happen?

Ubuntu Networking :: Unstable Mobile Broadband ?

Mar 6, 2010

I have just switched to Ubuntu from Win 7 RC. So far its been fun, learning to use terminal and all. But I have got a problem now I cannot find a solution to.

I am using 3 Mobile Broadband. The thing just worked - I plugged it in, created a new connection, modified config a little and was happily browsing.

However, it started acting out yesterday. When I boot the system with the modem plugged in, the USB stick is recignised and NetworkManager starts connecting (I have auto connect on). It then shows the "connected" message, and generally appears working fine.

On the other hand, I cannot open a single page in Firefox, it shows the default server not found page.

I used the approach Windows taught me: close, open, retry. I unmount the 3 Mobile Broadband drive, pull the modem out and reconnect it. NetworkManager then does it's job and this time everything works.

I nether had this problem in Win7 or Vista. It looks to me something goes wrong during the booting when the modem is plugged in.
