Ubuntu :: Connecting Vodafone ZTE K3570-Z On Pay?
Feb 26, 2011
I am having problems connecting to the internet using a mobile dongle. I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 and am attempting to use a Vodafone ZTE K3570-Z on pay as you go. I have followed instructions to the letter, installing software downloaded from Betavine and attempted various alternatives, but cannot get connected. The dongle works fine using Windows. This is currently my only source for the internet at home, so am becoming desperate. If I do not get this problem sorted out I will be forced to return to windows xp os.

We recently got a new mini PC which came pre-installed with Ubuntu 10.10, so far, so good. Today, we invested in a Vodafone broadband dongle (model number: K3570-Z/K3571-Z). I've installed the dongle on our old XP machine, with no problems, however, Ubuntu won't even recognise that it's plugged in. What am I doing wrong? We've had the new machine for 3 days, so I'm really new to all of it and haven't learnt how to use the command prompt yet, so I'm hoping someone has some advice for a complete beginner. I can't understand why it's not recognising that somethings plugged in, because from what I've found, you need usb_modeswitch in over for the dongle to be recognised as a modem.

I am trying to get my daughters Ubuntu Laptop to connect to the internet via a Vodafone USB dongle.
I have managed to get the modem itself to connect to Vodafone using the Sakis3G script (brilliant), however once connected the laptop will not pass data through this connection. i.e. when I select "Vodafone prepaid" as a network connection, the little pop up comes up and says GSM no connected?
When I get a connection information from Sakis, it gives an IP address and even had a tiny bit of throughput, however I do not know how to tell it to use the vodafone thingy.

I have a Vodafone (UK) PAYG USB stick (Huawei K3565 v2) which worked perfectly out of the box in 10.10. I also installed Betavine Connection Manager but never actually needed it. Since upgrading to 11.04 the stick won't connect. When I plug it in I get a green flashing light then a blue one but it never registers with Connection Manager. Nothing I can do tweaking the settings seems to make it work either.

I want to get a vodafone internet stick, but "they" say I have to install: vmb_1.1.0-0_i386.deb, downloaded the file and get this error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libboost-serialization1.40.0 (>= 1.40.0-1) Now it turns out that I have libboost1.42.0 (1.42.0-4ubuntu2) installed...
Am I right in assuming that vodafone is to blame for the software not working?
Is there anyone who has got this software to work or has any tips?

My PC crashed and I replaced Windows XP with Ubuntu. My laptop is still on Windows. Haven't been able to connect to the internet on my PC, Linux IT guy told me there was an issue with drivers on Ubuntu. Was told the Ubuntu community would know how to fix this. I've been reading through the posts and found a similar sort of problem posted with a solution posted also. The solution it seemed, lay in the Sakis website. I went to the Sakis website and downloaded Sakis3G onto my memory stick via my laptop. I need to get internet connectivity on my PC. My friend advised me to put the stick into the PC and then to open the terminal and type the following commands: gunzip sakis3g.g2 > chmod+xsakis3g > /sakis3g --interactive. Each command on a new line however after typing the first line: gunzip sakis3g.g2, I got 'No such file or directory'.

Anyone know how can get a vodafone huawei 4511 dongle working on ubuntu?
I've spent several hours reading stuff, most of which is way above my head.
I plug it in, set it up in "edit connections". Nothing happens.
It shows up in disk utility twice, as a usb vodaphone storage (huawei) and cd drive (vodafone cd rom)
I switched from puppy to ubuntu because I read that you could just plug dongles into ubuntu and they would be recognized. (Spent many many hours trying to get it working in puppy.)

I have tried geting the Vodofone dongle to work on Ubuntu 9.10 with some difficulty, followed several web suggestions, the software appears unstable.
This is for Australia.
Is there a good set of instructions to follow that work okay.
Dose Ubuntu 10.10 work better for this.

My name is Mayan Viljoen & I am from South Africa. I am very new with Ubuntu and I don't understand why the Vodafone 3G modem HSDPA USB stick (model k3570-Z) which I recently bought should not like Ubuntu as much as it does Windows. I want to work on the Ubuntu side of my split hard drive rather than the Windows side. It is notoriously difficult to get connected to the net on the new Ubuntu with this 3G modem. Is it because it is really manufactured for Windows or is there another reason? It will only really connect approx. 1 out of approx. 8 odd times on the Ubuntu 10.8 Operating System, which is very annoying to me. What can be the reason for this? If it is that this modem was really made for Windows, what then is the best 3G modem and network to use with Ubuntu 10.8?

I'm using SuSE 11.3. I have installed this betavine stuff with which I can use my Vodafone mobile connect usb device. (vodafone-mobile-connect-2.10.01-1.noarch.rpm + dependencies.) I was able to get it to run, it can connect, I can even send text messages (SMS) with it.
However, if I try to use the internet, the system behaves as it wasn't connected to it at all. ping doesn't see anything, neither does firefox etc. I have turned off all proxy and firewall settings.
I suppose I should tell Linux to use this connection for the internet, but how? Do I have to configure something with NetworkManager?

I'm somehow troubled by my Vodafone UMTS-Card (E3730) because it's not working. It used to work on this very laptop back when I still had openSUSE 11.2 installed. Back then all it actually took was to put it in - everything necessary to make it work was already onboard.
I'm now running CentOS 5.4 with the latest Kernel and it just won't do. The hso module is compiled and seems to be working:
[root@localhost udev]# lsmod | grep hso
hso 84036 0

I'm new here. This is my first post. Something tells me my problem will be met with great sighs and shrugs of shoulders. I think you may have heard this problem just a few thousand times. couple of days ago i took the plunge and installed Ubuntu 9.10. I already run XP Pro. I have the system set for dual booting until i get to grips with Linux and have all that i use daily from software to hardware comprehesively installed and running. then i have this ideal romantic dream of dumping my microsoft heartache, and living a happy life with the new love in town (an OS that works!)
Vodafone (Huawei K3520) mobile broadband dongle. Yes i know its a touchy subject but i am going cross-eyed reading info on various forums from this one to the betavine forums and a detour through vodafone themselves. I just can't find clear concise info on how to get this dongle up and running with Ubuntu. My laptop is Acer Aspire 5633 WLMi. I would really really appreciate your help on this subject i need to get online with this dongle and Ubuntu.

I have a Vodafone mobile broadband dongle for the United Kingdom. The installation software is for Windows and Macs only. In Windows it works fine. If I plug the dongle in the USB in Ubuntu then it is recognised but the installation does not start (quite understandably). So I tried using wine with the Windows executable. It starts off promisingly, then hangs. Some files are created along with desktop icons but the installation does not complete.
I have seen here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...light=vodafone) the comment that Vodafone installation can be tricky. So, can any kind person tell me if it is possible to get Vodafone dongles working under 10.04? Also, are there any other UK broadband pay-as-you-go dongles that will work? I have seen in a very recent post that "3" seems to be plug-and-play?

I've got an XP pro SP3 Vm in Virtualbox with Vodafone Mobile Connect installed. The USB dongle is detected by virtual box and I've tried passing it through with and without a filter enabled for it. Both times it was listed with the USB keyboard and mouse, all were greyed out. In Windows Ddevice Manager there's a entry for a USB Mobile Internet controller but the Vodafone Mobile Connect software isn't picking up the device. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and teh latest Virtualbox downloaded from the website with the PUEL extensions pack so I can have USB.

I need Internet on the road so brought a netbook and a USB Mobile Broadband stick. I've followed the installation instructions provided by the provider but this still does not work. I've also tried a couple of similar installation instructions found around the net. Has anybody had any luck getting this to work in Fedora 14? How did you or how can I get this to work?

I have a k3806-z vodafone mobile broadband modem, on ubuntu 10.04. I have added the mobile broadband connection with the network manager wizard. But network manager does not list my connection. I installed usb-modeswitch and usb-modeswitch-data. Still nothing. The disc utility tells me it recognises the modem as a cd drive and a storage device. Evidently usb-modeswitch is not working.
