I can't seem to update the repository indexes regardless of which official server/mirror I use. I pick one server from the built-in software sources list and then I get this:

Now how can that be? Shouldn't the built-in repository addresses be correct? My installation is one week old clean install. Since then I've installed broadcom wlan-drivers (I tried repo update w/ wired connection too) and Dropbox but other than that I'm pretty clean.
I've created a local repository, my web server (apache) is up and running and my repo is inside it, so I want to install debian using it, in the stage of enter manually the info of the debian mirror I put:
But after this, the installation tell me that it doesn't find the repo, I tried several ways, like: http://192.168.10.1; /repo/; /repo/ binary/ but nothing. What is the correct syntax to use my local repo?
I noticed a red triangle at the top right of my screen today and I've been trying to sort out the problem. is says "update information is outdated" I used the update like it suggested but get this error msg. I'm using 10.10 i386 on hp pavilion dv9620us. The top panel keeps showing a red triangular caution alert that when moused over reads: "The update information is outdated. This may be caused by network problems or by a repository that is no longer available. Please update manually by clicking on this icon and then selecting 'Check for Updates'and check if some of the repositories fail." I had clicked this button a few times. The first time it installed a kernel update. The next couple times I don't think it did anything but check for updates.
The repository [URL] is not currently (or no longer) valid. The path still exists up to the "Contrib" level, however, there are no files or subdirectories under it. There are also two siblings at the "Contrib" directory level ("Live" and "Update:") and there are no files under them either other than a single subdirectory called "Test" under "Update:". Does anyone know if the updates that used to be available in this repository have moved and, if so, where to? If the repository is no longer required and there is no replacement, I'll simply remove it. I have also noticed issues for several months where the updater applet will go into an "updating" state and never return from it.
is there a way to actually download the entire fedora repo? i've a friend with dialup who cannot install big things and i want to just downlaod the repository for him. i know ubuntu has some sort of way of doing this. i tried the following:
I am trying to download the flash player plugin from the partner repo and it is giving me a forbidden error. Here is my system info. Lucid i386 fully updated with the exception of that package. Internet is a wireless ISP here in iraq for the military. I can download packages from other repos just not anything from the adobe-flashplugin_10.1.102.65-1lucid1 family any contacts for this repo? The internet here is painfully slow so I cannot do much goggling

I remember that almost 3 weeks ago I've downloaded repo, and I was running it from his folder, but I think I've deleted the folder. If I Google "download repo", I can't find any page from where I could download repo application.

I opened Software Sources to try and remove the repositories, but couldn't find them. Plus I'm not sure if I need to manually replace these repositories with newer ones- I'm still relatively new at using Ubuntu (made the full switch from windows in October 2009). Plus, whenever I do install updates with the update manager, the "last updated" time doesn't reset itself. It finishes installing the selected packages, and the message at the top of the Update Manager window reads "Your system is up-to-date. The package information was last updated 28 days ago. After reading a lot of docs, I'm still having problems using wget to download a Centos repo from a mirror. Here's my best attempt so far: $cd /repos/centos/5.4 $wget -r -nH --cut-dirs=3 -np [URL] Of course I get all the unwanted index files etc, but I seem to get a lot of other downloads from the mirror, not just their 5.4 directory. It's like it's following other links on the web pages. Maybe I should be using "ftp://" instead of "http://" considering it's an ftp site, but I seem to have connection problems that way.

I'm having problems with the Flash plugin since yesterday. It is caused by a file which is not available in the repo:

download failed The Flash plugin is NOT installed. In that archive the file adobe-flashplugin_10.0.42.34.orig.tar.gz is missing, but there is a file for 10.0.45.2. I couldn't figure out how I can install this version (does not even show up when I select all software sources including backports).
I use addon from Mozilla Firefox to download video from dailymotion, but sometime can suddenly stop downloading, then it can not resume. Are there software that run under Linux that can download video from dailymotion and can resume it, if downloading suddenly stop?
For some reason I was trialing a SUSE 11.1 SP1 version for a while and somehow I have NO clue it attempted to change itself to a OpenSUSE 11.1 System. I have no clue what I did, please don't ask Now though I have been successful in turning into an OpenSUSE 11.2 system by changing the repositories to OpenSUSE 11.2, doing a "zypper refresh", "Zypper in Zypper", "Zypper dup -d", "Zypper dup". I also did a repair and refreshed the base packages with an OpenSUSE 11.2 DVD and that seemed to help also. The only thing it seems I can get right is that yast/yast2 give me this error: Download failed: Failed to download ./repo/repoindex.xml from https://nu.novell.com/?cookies=0&cre...NCCcredentials

I have two 10.04.1LTS command line servers running different overall jobs. One is an upgrade that started as 9.10 and was upgraded to 10.04LTS when it came out. It has since been upgraded to a 10.04.1LTS server. It's ssh login displays the following:

I'm wondering if its possible to add an external, non-Ubuntu mirror to my mirror server?
We have a few packages which need to be deployed during kickstart (Cinelerra and Eclipse plugins), and I would like to put them into my mirror repo so they are grabbed during kickstart, rather than manually adding them after the system is up.
I've been trying to figure this out... What command does the system use to display this at login:

It's not uname, free, top, df, uptime, etc... Also doesn't appear to be anything in /proc that I've found. Anyone know what it is? I want to grab its output as part of a script. I could use other commands I suppose, but this system info output is neat and concise.
I read a press release stating that ConVirt 2.0 is now available in the Ubuntu Partner Repository. I am trying to install it on a system with Ubuntu 10.04 but with no luck. The following steps were taken:
1) Uncomment the two partner repository lines in /etc/apt/sources.list
2) run "sudo apt-get update" from the CLI
3) "apt-cache search convirt" (only one listing is shown)
4) "apt-cache show convirt" which displays that the convirt found is from the 1.x branch.
What is going on? Is ConVirt no longer available in the Partner Repository?
Recently I am setting up Ubuntu private cloud platform, I followed installation instruction but on the setting, When the step:"sudo -u eucalyptus ssh-copy-id -i ~eucalyptus/.ssh/id_rsa.pub eucalyptus@<IP_OF_NODE>" processed, authentication fail happened. so what the solution and how could I solve it.
I down loaded Debian 5.0.4 and burned it to CD (several times I might add till it was right) and now the computer I'm putting it on wont acknowledge it as a boot disk and load. It does not have a problem with my windows cd, which has a crack and the start of all my problems, But not the Debian CD-1 disk. what now? The computer is an IBM thinkpad a22p. Everything works as far as I can tell. But I was going to reinstall Windows and failed in that because of a small crack on the edge of the disk that stopped the install and any hope of accessing the file on the laptop. Microsoft does not support windows xp any longer, you must buy windows 7, but the ibm will not run it due to processor speed and ram limitations. But it will run linux and I'm willing to try it just to get out of microsoft control.

I recently upgraded two servers to F10 from F9 and one of them is having an issue where package-cleanup is showing 13 packages which are incorrectly orphaned (no longer in the repo). Has anyone seen this before and know how to resolve this? Is it simply because the packages are listed in the repo as "fc10" vs "fc9"?
