Debian :: Fail Error At Boot Only

Nov 8, 2015

I have the following system:

HARDWARE, desktop: MSI motherboard A58M-E33
AMD (APU A6-5400k) (dual-core) (AMD Radeon HD 7540D) (3.6Ghz),,,,4GB/RAM
Monitor connected to the motherboard's VGA port.
DEBIAN JESSIE , Linux 3.16.0-4-686-pae

========================================================

The computer continues to run fine no problems, I only see the following fail error at boot up...
kernel: [46717.717430] [Firmware Bug]: cpu 0, failed to setup threshold interrupt for bank 4, block 0 ........
kernel: [46717.717430] [Firmware Bug]: cpu 0, failed to setup threshold interrupt for bank 4, block 1 ..............
the above repeats about 18 or so times. then:::::

[Code] ....

The computer continues to boot, and runs well. I did a search, and I found similar errors reported but NOT the same as this. They were blamed on issues between Linux3.16 and AMD type GPUs ...

The board is an asus P5N-D. I press F1 to blow past the error and all is well until the next cold boot. Restarts are fine, no errors at all.

Debian Installation :: Testing - All Logins Fail / System Error Message From The Passwd Command?

Mar 18, 2010

I just installed Squeeze on an older PC. Installation seemed to go fine. But when it booted up on the installed system for the first time, I could not login - username/password failure. I tried every possible typing error and CAP LOCK error I could have made - still nothing.

I brought up a console window and tried logging in as root - same problem.

I booted into single user mode and entered passwd command to set new root password - I got a SYSTEM ERROR message from the passwd command.

I booted to a Live CD, went to /etc/shadow and deleted the encrypted password. Rebooted on the hard drive, went to console window and logged in as root, with no password required. So far so good. I entered passwd command to set new password and got the same SYSTEM ERROR message.

The machine seems fine when running on the Live CD, and the install seemed to go fine.

Fedora Installation :: 13 Boot Up Fail Error 17 "cannot Mount Selected Partition"?

May 28, 2010

When upgrading F12 to F13 I had a fatal error when I selected to update grub so I opted to do a fresh install of grub and the upgrade proceeded without any further problems. When I went to boot the system (dual-boot with Win 7) grub gave me error 17 "cannot mount selected partition". So I booted into rescue from the install disk thinking that maybe reinstalling grub might help, but when I ran "grub-install /dev/sda" I got the message that "/dev/sda does not have any corresponding BIOS drive" (I have Windows on SATA 1 sda and Fedora on SATA 2 sdb). I exited rescue mode rebooted entered BIOS and swapped the drive order and restarted. Success!... Well almost. The progress bar goes all the way across the screen to the point the login screen should come up then it hangs...

What happens is, the first screen appear (where it instructs to press DEL to go to BIOS), then the system hangs us displaying "Error Loading Operating System". There nothing works, except the CTRL+ALT+DEL. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL, same cycle repeats.

Server :: NFS Large File Copies Fail - Error Writing To File: Input/output Error?

Jun 27, 2009

I recently upgraded my file/media server to Fedora 11. After doing so, I can no longer copy large files to the server. The files begin to transfer, but typically after about 1gb of the file has transferred, the transfer stalls and ultimately fails with the message:

"Error writing to file: Input/output error"

I've run out of ideas as to what could cause this problem. I have tried the following:

1. Different NFS versions: NFS3 and NFS4
2. Tried copying the files to different physical drives on the server.
3. Tried copying the files from different physical drives on the client.
4. Tried different rsize and wsize block sizes when mounting the NFS share
5. Tried copying the files via a different protocol. SSH in this case. The file transfers are always successful when I use SSH.

Regardless of what I do, the result is the same. The file transfers always fail after approximately 1gb.

Some other notes.

1. Both the client and the server are running Fedora 11 kernel 2.6.29.5-191.fc11.x86_64

I am out of ideas. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Software :: Freeradius Fail To Start Because Of Ssl Error

Mar 7, 2010

I have installed freeradius from repositories in both Debian and Ubuntu. I have built from source with 'fakeroot dpkg-buildpackage -b -uc' on both the official freeradius source code and the source provided by apt-src in both Debian and Ubuntu. On a normal install via aptitude there is no ssl-support, I understand this is because of license issues. Otherwise is works, but is of course useless in a wifi-auth setup. On a install from source code, after editing debian/rules and debian/control as recommended different places on the net, freeradius fail to start because of ssl error. Same on install via source code downloaded directly from [URL]... Anyone have a working ssl-enabled freeradius server running Debian or the likes?

Ok. Using Release 12 Constantine Gnome 2.28. Whenever I try to update my computer via de Software Update Manager that pops up every now and then I get an error and the Software Update fails.

The error says its a repository not found, but I am very new at this and have no clue as to where to fix this. Alongside of this, is the fact that since one of the updates is failing, the rest don't install either. So the updates keep on piling.

This is the error shown in the More Details window:

Ubuntu Security :: Firestarter Fail In Boot Log?

Oct 20, 2010

I've been using Firestarter for a while and have used it to set-up inbound and outbound policies (which are probably way too restricitve) but since turning on boot logging the other day I have noted that the boot log contains the message:

Code:
* Starting the Firestarter firewall [fail] I find this somewhat alarming. I have seen post[URL].ht= firestarter (although have not added it the auto startup list and do not wish to have it start without the root password). What I would like to know is as the computer boots up does it set the iptables to their last setting irrespective of whether firestarter starts or does firestarter need to start to set the iptables and therefore my policies?

Slackware :: Fail To Boot After Moving The Partition ?

Dec 16, 2010

I have a system which previously have 3 OS installed on one physical HDD; WinXP on sda1, Win7 on sda2 and Slackware linux on sda3. Lilo is used as the boot loader.

Recently I bought another HDD and decided to reinstalled my Win7 on it and I use GParted to move Slackware to the original Win7 slot on my first HDD so now my Slackware partition has been move from sda3 to sda2.

I modified the /etc/lilo.conf file so that it reflects the new Slackware partition and run lilo to installed it.

The lilo installed correctly I can boot into WinXP and Win7 without problem but when I try to boot into Slackware, it fail at the root filesystem check, apparently the e2fsck still try to check sda3.

Is there anything that I can do to correct the problem without having to reinstall Linux?

Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

I have ubuntu 9.10 installed at the moment, and when I update it to 10.04, through update, I still get the same message.

If I were installing from a cd like I was, I could MD5 test the ISO I downloaded and check the CD for defects, but what about when all I'm doing is updating from the update manager?

Ubuntu :: Windows 7 And Dual Boot Fail, Repartition?

Apr 17, 2010

I already had Windows 7 installed and decided to try out Ubuntu--just to, you know, mess around with stuff. During the partitioning part of the installation, I didn't pay attention as to how much space/volume I would shrink Windows down to, so I just went ahead and pressed forward with the default amount already on there (all of of the space went to Ubuntu, I'm thinking).

Now whenever I turn on my computer, I get a grub menu. On the list is Linux xxxx, Linux etc (blah blah blah), and then Windows 7 loader. It doesn't work, and suggests that I put in the Windows installation disc.

This is what my partitions look like on Gparted:

I have the installation disc. Somewhere.

I'd like to keep the dual boot on Ubuntu and Windows 7 if that's possible. But since Ubuntu is already working, if it's easier to just delete Windows 7, I'd like to know how to do that, too.

Programming :: Fail To Write To USB Device Boot Sector / What To Do?

Jul 4, 2010

I'm writing a C program that reads the boot sector of a USB disk. (it is mounted as /dev/sda1). I'm able to read the sector, by the calls code...

The problem is when I wish to write. I use the call:
bytesWrite = write(fd, buf, 512)
The 'write' returns the value of 512, which looks as if the write was successful, yet
when I read again the /dev/sda1 device, I see that no writing was actually made.

Can anybody tell me what do I need to do in order to allow an actual write to the
device?

CentOS 5 :: Live Cd Kickstarts Fail To Build Or Boot

Jun 7, 2010

I have tried building the minimal & desktop Centos 5 live CDs to no avail.Depending on the build environment, they either do not build at all (Centos 5, i386) or they build but kernel panic when I boot them (Fedora 12).I've tried various tweaks to the provided kickstart files but I have not had any success. It is important to note that I have written some very impressive (according to others) Fedora kickstart builds so I am at a loss why the stock Centos files fail.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?I suspect it has something to do with the livecd-tools or syslinux versions but all of the versions I have tried it with make no difference.
