Debian :: Can Not Access Any Microsoft Site ?

I have Debian Lenny and I use Google Chrome for internet surfing. When I try to open a web page for any Microsoft site (microsoft dot com, msdn dot microsoft dot com, etc) it times out and never shows the page nor I get 404. All I get : "Waiting for www dot microsoft dot com" .
I have a Window XP VirtualBox machine within Debian with nic card as bridge and I can connect with no problems.
What could it be?. DNS look up addresses in Debian and Windows virtual are the same.

Am working as net admin in an institute.. I have Leased Line connection with Public IP? I configured Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 as Internet Server. I successfully Configured squid and as well as Internet Gateway in my Internet Server.. All are working fine in my client PC environment.. I have one Series Problem in my all Windows Client Pc.. When I try to surf Microsoft and Any Anti-virus site through squid(port no 3128) is fine?but when I try to surf the same Microsoft or any anti virus site through Linux Internet gateway then I got ?Page can not be displayed error?? but all other sites are surfed well through Gateway.. I felt some spy ware is attacked in my All windows Client PC.. So only it ll block Microsoft or any anti virus site through Linux Internet gateway(default port 80

In the office there is a local network with samba+openldap PDC. The local domain name is company.net. The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?

Have no idea what I am doing operating a server. Our programmer got a new job and I am the one who has to take it over. Everything was fine til yesterday. You see I made a control panel to easier update the site www(dot)discoverysound(dot)com
but yesterday when I went to update the site I got an error called fopen. I thought I fixed it (and boy did I ever) but now I cannot get to my site because it says Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. I've been using ubuntu for quite a few years, and know the basics of databases. However, how to get them to talk to each other... Not so much.
I need to be able to connect to a MySQL database using Microsoft Access 20074. The database is going to be running on my server, which runs ubuntu server 10.10.
So far, I have installed MySQL server and libmyodbc. I took the deetails for the odbc.ini file from the ODBC ubuntu community page, so this is the current setup (database name is business):

I have start apache, and can see my site on 127.0.0.1, but I have router and don't know how to check my site from outside (Internet bellow). I have no domain name registered. Just want to check web server.
That should be easy. (or not?)
The router has static IP xxx.xxx.xxx.239 from the my internet provider and assign 192.168.1.100 to my computer.

I've done a search and tried a few things as follows,I can not access the Fedora project.org web site from home comp using either Unbuntu 11.04 and fire fox, or Windows 7 and I.E.all I get is can't acess site when it times out.Following a posting on this site i tried the command host fedoraproject.org the output i got was "none' rather than some IPs as the person posting got.I want to switch from unbuntu to Fedora because it is what Ken Mayer uses to illustrate in his Linux + vids and I've found Unbuntu does not contain all the commands.

I've got my username on Ubuntu (I can't remember version number, but its 6 months old aprox)..
I'm the sole user (& admin)..
I have /home/myusername/ & can edit all files (without using sudo), but if I want to edit a file in another directory - i need to use Sudo..
I'm setting up a website /home/website/
(this is the same structure as the external website I'm going to edit, i want the directory structure to be the same..)
is there a way, I can allow FULL access to the /home/website/ directory - While logged in as /myusername/
(IE So I do not need sudo (or any 'admin' command), to edit the files )

I have a problem accessing my site.
My Gateway, is using Ubuntu.
From ssh command, I can't ping it (and can't access it).
But, when I ssh to my client's gateway (different ISP), I can ping it (and can access it).
My admin says that it's the DNS problem in my Gateway but when I change the DNS on my computer, still the problem exists.

Now, I'm looking for the closest equivalent to Microsoft money where I can access my on-line account and download the transactions as I have been doing with Microsoft Money. Trying to access 67.15.245.6 (its a forum site). I can't get to it from home for over a month now. I can't ping it, but I can ping obvious things like google. Tracert isn't working at all. Once it hits the lightspeed.frokca.sbcglobal.net hop it just dies like ATT isn't allowing traceroutes. I've been using Tor as a work around. About 3 months ago I basically had the same issue with openbittorrent.com's site.
I have a linux server and windows XP box. I can't ping the above IP nor tracepath/traceroute to the IP from my linux box.
I have ATT uverse.
EDIT: The site is hometheaterlounge.com (The IP won't do you much and its just the IP of the site host).

How can I block access to a certain internet site using ufw? Let's say I want to block access to www.xxx.zzz (IP 1.2.3.4) to any program and user; using iptables I can do
sudo iptables -A OUTPUT -d 1.2.3.4 -j DROP how can I do that using ufw? if ufw can not do this, where should I put this rule to persist it over reboot, without interfering with ufw chains infrastructure?

I'm going away for the weekend and will only be able to bring my laptop that has the latest release of Ubuntu on it. My question is: will i be able to access my company's Terminal Server site [URL] from browser in Linux, and be able to launch the applications? (Outlook, etc.) Seems to connect to Windows Server 2008. If this works in Linux, that would make my life a lot easier..

In one of our network we are using one firewall which works as gateway. All machines are able to access internet through this gateway. There is no filtering and any internet restriction. I would like to setup monitoring system which monitor and log bandwidth and sites access by client machine. Is there any tool which monitor internet access as well as sites which are access from client machines.

Slow access to web site using squid and Internet explorer.I am trying to troubleshoot an issue I am stuck on. We have a website that is loading .htm documents extremely slow when using Internet Explorer 8 behind Squid. When we bypass the proxy and go directly out to the internet all is fast and pages load fine.But when the proxy is on documents will take sometimes up to 6 minutes to load.This issue is only apparent using Internet explorer 8.I do not see the issue when using firefox with Squid.I have tried to use the no_cache directive thinking it may have been the cache but that didn't work either.I am attaching our access.log, store.log and squid.conf.

Using Ubuntu 10.10 I have a VPN account with VPNtunnel.se. I configured everything as described on their site. It uses OpenVPN It connects no problem. However; after it connects instead of having a nice secure connection I have no connection at all! I can't access any site, email, bittorrent all come to a screeching hault. The service works fine in Windows. I'm useless with linux networking.

When I'm trying to access my site using Firefox I get this error: "Unable to connect

Then I tried to access my site using Opera and Chrome but I get the same error, that the browsers couldn't connect to it.
The site to which I'm trying to connect is definitely up. (I ask a few people and they can access it and I looked at [url] and it says that my site it's up)

I run a Windows based e-mail server and looking at moving my new server to Debian, however, this following problem might stop that, so I am hoping someone can help me out - I cannot receive mail.I have installed 'postfix' via Synaptic Package Manager.During installation, I was to choose a general type of mail configuration. I've been on a quest to enable full routing through my openvpn tunnel between my office and the colo. Masquerading will work, however it will throw off anything key based and makes a lot of things just more difficult and vague in general. Is there an easy way to do this via iptables? I tried using quagga hoping it would magically solve my problems, however it does not seem to do my routing for me . I just did a basic static route within zebra...

I have three locations with a central office connected to two remote locations. At the central office I run on a cisco asa 5505 two site to site vpns. The remote end of the first site is a checkpoint firewall , and the remote end of the second site is racoon on debian. Both sites are up and working. However, where at the first site traffic goes both ways, at the second site it only works from the central office to the remote office.
For example, I can ssh from a host in the central office to a host in the first remote site (through checkpoint firewall,) then ssh back from that host at the remote office to any host in the central office. In contrast, after I ssh from a host in the central office to a host in the second remote office (through racoon), I cannot see the central office hosts (ping the ip address of a central office host, ssh, etc. all fail.) The vpn settings at the central office (the cisco asa 5505) are identical. So it seems to me that some routing magic is missing on the host running racoon at the second remote office. Where would such setting reside? racoon config files? iptables?

I finally found a blank DVD), I, of course, have a few questions: 1. Besides costs, what are some benefits of Linux over Windows? I'm sure with some use, I'll figure some of them out myself; my main problem with Windows (err, Microsoft) is their attempt to monopolize computers. If you have Windows, you have to deal with Microsoft's attempt to keep your computer free of all non-Microsoft products. 2. How do I resize the desktop? When I start up Debian I get an 'Out of Range' message on my screen, then after I hit CTRL Alt + a few times, I'm left with an oversized GUI- it's bigger than my monitor so I have to bring the mouse to the side/bottom to scroll down to my taskbar. 3. How do I install programs? The first thing I tried installing was Google Chrome, but I get an error message "Archive not found."

I'm running Debian Squeeze (6.0.1) 64-bit and I'm trying to run Microsoft Office 2007 (due to formatting issues with OpenOffice) through Wine (version 1.0.1 from the repositories). I followed the instructions over here but when I try to run the setup I get an error box with the following message:
Setup did not complete successfully. We are sorry for the inconvenience. An error occurred during the installation, and setup was unable to complete. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. And there are two button: "Send Error Report" and "Don't Send". And the installation is aborted. Is there anyway to make this run?

I have a Debian testing system on a laptop that used to have Windows 8 on it. I kept the EFI boatloader and its partition, but now every time the system boots, it first tries to boot into Windows (which isn't there anymore). Removing /boot/efi/EFI/Microsoft just leads to an error message when booting, with some component of Windows still trying to load and not finding those files.
The workaround for now is to go into the UEFI boot menu on every boot and selecting the "debian" entry, which works but is a bit cumbersome.How can I get rid of the Microsoft loader completely? I find a lot about repairing or re-adding the Windows bootloader, but nothing about removing it.
