CentOS 5 :: Trying To Install Developmetn Tools After Inital Install
Dec 9, 2009
I have a case where I need to install the development tools after the initial 5.3 installation. If I run yum installgroup "Development Tools" I get the following:
I can exclude the xorg entry and a dogtail dependency but it doesn't appear to install all the packages. I get the same if I run the install through Applications/add/remove software. I need to add these to a system so I can install StorNext filesystem software. I can select the development tools during the inital installation of the software and that works OK. Wouldn't installgroup install all the same or more packages as selecting the development tools option during the inital installation?
I try to install the Development Tools by yum groupinstall 'Development Tools' but there is a problem with the dependency of the package systemtap-runtime.
Trying to install the latest , greatest hplip 3.10.2 on a CentOS 5.3 I'm following hplip webpage manual installation steps have a Kernel ver 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5 output from rpm -q centos-release centos-release-5-3.el5.centos.1 trying with (as root user ) yum -y goupinstall "Development Tools" getting following err message:
How do i install vmware tools on 11.2? I uninstalled the open-vmtools non-sense removed the remaining modules from it (no clean work from suse here) installed gcc, make, kernel-source and kernel-headers installed the vmware-tools rpm i started vmware-configure-tools and it says that my kernel was built with gcc 4.4.1 while i try to use version 4.4 now.(if i do a 'gcc -v' it clearly says version 4.4.1) so what ?! I said "yes" here, it tries to build the memory moudle and fails......
Ok so I did some stupid stuff and tried to install some of the Backtrack 4 tools. Now when I tried to install VLC player in terminal I get this:"ph@top:~$ sudo apt-get install vlc Reading package lists. Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation:
I am trying to install vmware tools on redhat 5 linux guest os running on vmworkstation 6.5 with window vista host machine. After running rpm for vmware tool when run vmware-config-tools.pl command it ask for "what is the location of the directory of c header files that match your running kernel ? [/user/src/linux/include]
I have Vmware Fusion 2.0.6 (196839) running on my MacBook Pro. I installed Fedora 11 on the fusion and it works fine. The only problem that I am having is that when I try to install vmware tools, by runnning ./vmware-install.pl in the terminal, I am prompted with this message: What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]
If I press Enter, the same message pops up. I am fairly new to linux, and I am just setting this up so I can set up a web server on this virtual machine for testing purposes.
As the thread-title reads I'm looking for an app that helps me to create a bootable usb-stick with Windows XP on it for my girlfriend who wants to dualboot Windows for school work.Is there any app that fulfills my need? Or am I forced to use the command-line with fdisk or something? (an in case, what should I do?)
I'm using VMWare and a Linux Mint guest OS.How can I install the VMWare Tools? The file is called vmware-install.pl.I've tried running this in the terminal, but it doesn't work.
sudo vmware-install.pl
I can't seem to remember what command I had to use.
unable to install initramfs-tools error in Karmic I'm having a devilish time installing Karmic on my AMD 64-bit.
Today's missive is: "Unable to install initramfs-tools." "Check /var/log/syslog"
After a trying to fix a corrupted 9.04, I have attempted repeated installs of 9.10 on a completely reformatted clean drive. I can get the live CD working, but when I try the permanent install, using the guided full drive install, it stopped at "Unable to install initramfs-tools." and halts the base system install. I can't find anything on this for Karmic and Launchpad says it was superseded.
Can I skip this and go on? It showed a install list going forward, but if I can't put in the base system, how do I proceed? I've burned 2 9.10 disks, a new 9.04 disk, downloaded 9.10 via package manager while in Live CD and get errors on all during the install process. the check sums match on D/L, but I can't figure how to do a chksum after it's burned to disk. The file sizes do match, but when I go for the install something always halts it at different steps with different errors. No joy.
I currently run 9.10 and have / and /home mounted on different partitions. From what I understand, I can do a fresh install of 10.04 on / while preserving my settings on /home. What about the development tools? I currently have Apache web server, Tomcat, MySQL, PostgreSQL installed. I presume I will have to reinstall them if I do a fresh install right? So if I want to preserve these dev tools as they are I should only do an upgrade from the update manager? Are there any major advantages to a clean install over an upgrade?
Once I download and install isight-firmware-tools. I am supposed to redirect it somewhere. I tried keeping the default thing set, but it failed to install that way. (MacBook 3,1. 10.04 LTS)
Is there anyway I can remote in to a fedora machine via a Win 7, Vista or Server 2008 machine and have the gui desktop? I can vnc to it but it's command line only.If possible, I'd like to use the defacto std tool called remote desktop installed with the win os.If not any are there any open source-al free tools I could install on win to get this functionality?
It used to be that the dvd menu offered an option to "repair the installed system". THis was really very convenient. The openSUSE 11.3 dvd for x86 now only gives a "system rescue" option which leads to command line directl. Where have been "the repair the installed system" tools? How can we access them now? What is a reasonable set of tips that's supposed to be used after logging into "system rescue"?
I did a command-line installation. I dont have an ethernet connection, only wireless. For some reason the alternate installer doesnt install "wireless-tools" How do i install it? At this point I am thinking of booting off a live USB, downloading the wireless-tolls package from here Save it to a folder in the command line installation where?) then boot back into command line and install from there But I am not that savvy with command lines, and dont know where to install to...
Looking for resource to load into my ubuntu distro I'm using my own mix of Zorin os 5 and Studio I want to install backtrack tools is there a mirror out there for ver4 or 5 I need the resource and gpl keys
I installed ubuntu 10.10 server from an usb stick. I do not have access to a wired connection and do not have a CD drive, so now I need to configure the wireless connection.for that I need to have wireless-tools which if i am not wrong are not installed by default so the question is: how can I install the wireless-tools package from an usb using only command line? note: I got internet access from another ubuntu-desktop PC so i can download any package needed, etc.
