You will need to reinstall kpackagekit after the installation is complete or fix it with synaptic. *This may or may not break your system so do at your own risk* For this to work you will need to follow these instructions EXACTLY as it is here. I have been trying to do some testing with server cloning and partitioning and hit some walls. The server is question is a Dell PowerEdge 2950 and the Distro's I have tried are :-
Clonezilla-live-1.2.8-46-i686
Parted Magic 6.2 & 6.2
The problem is a little strange is that the console appears to keep reporting either unreadable sectors on sr0 for clonezilla till SQUASHFS fails to load/locate and it panic's or in the case of Parted Magic.. copying files to RAM ..cp: read error: Input/output error

Now the only problem here is I can't check the log's or dmesg the thing because it freezes the KVM and as I am offsite I have no spares with me Parted Magic does boot on a number of other servers like the R900 but will not boot at all here, I have tried safemode and disabling various other flag's but I must be missing something.
I searched and found several solution but those are distro specific. I need to find out if distro is running in live mode (from CD, USB) instead it's installed on hdisk. The solution should be independent of distribution.

The poster used a similar title "Administrative tools fail to open - karmic" I also have karmic and four tools fail to load; Ubuntu Software Center, Hardware Drivers, System Testing, and Update Manger. Synaptic and System Monitor run. I ran update-manager and software-manger and was told module pygtk does not exist. I ran "sudo apt-get install pygtk" and it said that did not exist as a package. The terminal update and upgrade also work.

Would the best solution be to reinstall the OS from fresh downloads as at least the Hardware Drivers tool works with the live USB?
We have a server that is running RHEL4 that occasionally spikes in load average above 10 and we have no idea what is causing it. We would like to know if there are any free tools or a script that when the load average hits a certain point it will trigger the system to start logging the processes to see what is happening. Usually by the time we get logged into the system the load average is on its way down. If someone has a better idea please let me know.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had ubuntu installed for a few months now and have been loving it. Yesterday I wanted to get JDK installed for a found a forum that said how to install it on ubuntu. The installation was not a success (I am not sure why because I am not skilled when it comes to the command line and I didn't understand the error). Later, I tried to install a different application just through the ubuntu software center and it said it was waiting for a different software manager to finish. I didn't understand what was still running because I had all other applications closed that I know of.
Once I restarted the problem was the same. Then I found a bug where people had the same problem with the software manager and they entered this and fixed it:
sudo dpkg --configure -a Now whenever I try to apt-get anything I get:
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was using windows 7 and I decided to install BackTrack 4 as an operation system so that I can have 2 operation system on my machine, during the installation, I accidentally formatted the windows 7 and right now, I am using only the BackTrack 4, now, I want to re-install back the windows 7 as an operation system but whenever I inserted my CD, it display this words under the Default: >/ubnkern initrd=/ubninit
It needed a command from me in other to proceed but am new in Ubuntu and I dont know what I should type or the command I should used in other to finish installing the windows 7.
