I am not sure why it does not install, it hangs(hangs for 10 minutes) and the only way to get out of it, is to ctrl-c, and then it gives error yum install amavisd-new

How can I fix this error? I have searched the inet but can't seem to find a solution.
I am trying to built a mailserver using Sendmail + cyrus + amavisd + TLS authentication. All programs used are the latest versions shipped with OpenSUSE 11.4 I have set-up successfully sendmail+cyrus and I can send e-mail anywhere without a problem using authentication. But when I try to integrate amavisd-milter mail delivery hangs at 63% and the following message appears in /var/log/mail

I have also uninstall all involved programs, deleted all conf files and re-installed them but alas without any success. The same configuration was used at least once with almost all previous SuSE/openSUSE versions since 1998.
With the 5.3 CDS I started an install got through to 98% of CD 3 but I was called away. Came back this morning and the box was on, but had frozen. Every time I reboot, cold boot, I come up with black screen. Vers 0.97 <grub> Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. TAB etc. Is there a way I can get to CD 4 and continue the install, or am I back to the top again?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed 32-bit CentOS 5.5 in a Vmware virtual machine. I'm unable to install RPMs from either the graphical U/I (Pirut) or CLI (Yum). Pirut stops responding (no screen repainting) after displaying the "Updating software" dialog; Yum gets to the display of "Running Transaction" where it hangs. The initial installation (from the net-install ISO) obviously succeeded, and the after-install update of about 50 packages also worked fine.
yum.log contains nothing past the entries made during the initial install. Because I had a problem with corrupted files from a mirror during installation I tried using the baseurl setting in CentOS-Base.repo instead of mirrorlist, but that had no effect.
Installed latest version of sipXecs (PBX system) which is based on CentOS. The install went fine. During the first boot up all the messages come back with OK until it reachs a message about loopback. It hanges on this message and will go no further.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have postfix setup with amavisd and I tried to send myself an email with the eicar file however it lets the email go through to my inbox. When I restart the amavisd service, there are no errors in the log and it finds all the decoders for different file types and I also see this come up:

Everything seems to work but it doesn't scan the file for viruses. Also, I've double and triple checked and my amavisd.conf file doesn't have the option enabled to bypass virus scanning.
Is there a package in YUM now that automatically updates amavisd-new to version 2.6.4??? My VM comes stock with version 2.5.4 and i absolutely CANNOT update it to 2.6.4 due to incompatibility issues in Maia Mailguard. When I do the package upgrade I don't understand but i specifically do NOT choose amavisd-new to be updated and everytime I check to see my latest version it is at version 2.6.4 I don't get it am I missing something? What can be causing my package to always get upgraded to the new version when I am not upgrading it.

I followed this how to document [URL] to install postfix, Amavisd, SpamAssassin and ClamAV. My postfix installation is working fine and I can send and receive emails fine. However, it looks like SpamAssassin is not catching any emails. Emails do get passed over to Amavisd as I can see in the logs but ALL Messages comes out CLEAN without being tagged as spam.
As per the document, I did test by sending a test virus email
sendmail -i your-address@example.com < sample-virus-simple.txt.
This is caught and NOT let through so ClamAV is ok but when i send
sendmail -i your-address@example.com < sample-spam-GTUBE-junk.txt
it does get delievered without being detected as SPAM or tagged as SPAM.
As I said, I have followed the documentation dot by dot and hence do not have spamassassin starting up as a service but i guess amavisd starts it within itself as a module.
Also, my postfix version is the one that supports mysql virtual tables which I got from rpmforge.
I am trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 x64 on a HP Pavilion p6565uk.
My PC is x64 compatible, although ubuntu will not install.
I don't get to any gui, it says ubuntu will continue install in 5 seconds, at 0, nothing happens. The CPU light is flashing, but nothing happens.
After about 10 minutes, it reboots, but when the HP splash screen shows (Before the boot selection screen) it just hangs. I have to do a hard shutdown to boot back up.
I am using wubi for install.

Trying to install Ubuntu (tried several releases) on HP Pavillion Pentium 4 Proccessor 515 2.93 Gig 1M L2 cache 533mhz 90nm . Have 1 gig ram and 1Tb hd. Hangs on initial install screen for ever. Tried versions from 8.10 (origional disk) to 11.01. Machine works perfectly on Windows XP but who wants that? The model is pavillion 1000 system number pl397aa.

I successfully got the system to 11.2, but the upgrade from 11.2->11.3 went awry. The installation froze during the update, and I had to start it over. The first issue I had to deal with was the fact that rpm had been upgraded and zypper hadn't, so zypper wouldn't function because older rpm files that it would search for had been deleted. After rolling back rpm to a previous version, I managed to complete the upgrade to 11.3 and everything looked good. However, when I rebooted the system, it hangs at a blank screen. More precisely, the system seems to get through all of the BIOS stuff and then hang while loading the OS (I assume). Although I've worked on Windows boxes for a long time, I'm a complete novice at OS installations/upgrades for Linux systems, so I'm not even quite sure where to begin to troubleshoot this. Ideally, I'd like to be able to fix the installation on the system to save the data on the hard drives, but I realize this might not be possible. My first thought was to use a recovery tool that I'd seen on some Linux installation CDs, but I see that for openSuSe 11.3 and on that utility has been dropped. I can, however, use the disk to get to the "Rescue" command prompt, so maybe there's something I can do from there?
I have used CentOS for a while and have never run into this issue. I searched all over and didn't see a similar issue anywhere, I did an install of CentOS as a server (no GUI) with only the base. Partition is /boot ext3, size of 100MB. The rest of the drive is partitioned as / with ext3. This is being done on a CompactFlash card of 32GB in size. The BIOS sees it as an IDE drive.
When the install completes and the system reboots, the grub stops at the grub> prompt. There is no menu for OS options. If I do the following commands:
grub>root (hd0,0)
grub>kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-194.el5 root=LABEL=/
grub>initrd /initrd-2.6.18-194.el5.img
grub>boot
On a fresh install on a dell 2650: The install goes smooth and on reboot after Nash starts we get

repeated for two controllers and 16 devices on each controller. Then boots and runs fine.
I have a Dell Inspiron M5030 and ran the live Gnome CD. everything works until I install. The install goes fine and it boots fine but when i log in it just hangs at the desktop with a spinning cursor. No menus no nothing just the wallpaper?

- System seems to randomly hang, at which it becomes unavailable on the network (can't be pinged, monitor won't come back on, and you can't wake it up... have to reboot, the scroll lock and caps lock keys flash at the same time)

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install centos on two servers. The first a dell power edge p4 2.4 ghz 512 ram, the other is a supermicro with almost the exact specs. I tried to install the centos cd, using roxio to create the disk, (then just for measures tested the cd on my laptop and it loaded just fine into the centos install gui.) But it says media error when I try it on the dell and blue screens the other server. However if I put the windows cd in on both the servers, the windows install goes perfect. Apologies again if this is misplaces but I just joined the site and have had a difficult time trying to find where to post. What I am trying to do in the end is run web servers using apache.

I have just done a reinstall of Centos 5.3 on a dedicated server (via a KVM). My partition arrangement was the default presented to me by the installer:
As you can see, I'm using LVM for everything other than /boot (I need to use LVM for an app I am testing).
On reboot, I get the following:

It looks like it can't find vmlinuz-2.6.18-128.el5 in /boot.
I have rebooted using the Centos Install Disk 1 and gone in to rescue mode. Rescue mode mounted my / under /mnt/sysimage, from there I could see that /boot had been mounted from /dev/sda1 as it should be.
However, there was no initrd.image or /vmlinuz-2.6.18-128.el5 under /boot or /boot/grub. Shouldn't the CentOS installer have created these?
Is there anyway I can recover this installation?
While attempting to install CentOS 5.4 x86_64 from DVD (downloaded torrent), I encountered a fatal error that aborted the install and dumped a bunch of log files. I attempted this a couple of times resulting in the same error. I tested my hardware via CentOS 5.4 x86_64 live cd without exception. Here is my install configuration:

I have other test pages in the /var/www/html/ directory that I can access ... I know this seems like a permission issue and in fact the error log states this is a permission issue, but I cannot figure what is the problem here.

In the CentOS link I posted it said to use kernel from the xen directory.Ive found out that the last fedora version that shipped with xen was fedora 8. Does anyone know where I can find a fedora 12/13 xen kernel? Ive searched google for hours and can not find a xen kernel. Actually I'm to the point where I would even use ubuntu or any similar distro if I could find a xen kernel.
Every time I selected addons and Mysql i got a notice of a bug report. So i gave in and only selected server and it is installing. I hope i can read enough to get it installed..

After update was finished I noticed a message saying "Your system kernel may have been updated. Current kernel (2.6.18-238.e15) has been changed to : 2.6.18-238.12.1.e15)". When I reboot, I see two boot option in GRUB. one is Centos 5.6 (2.6.18-238.12.1.e15) Default and other is Centos 5.6 (2.6.18-238.e15). When Centos boots from default, it fails with fatal error. But when I boot with other option, the system boots as normal.
I need to know how to resolve this situation. Why yum update results in Kernel update and 2nd option in GRUB boot loader. and why Centos refuses to boot with update Kernel.
