I have a case where I need to install the development tools after the initial 5.3 installation. If I run yum installgroup "Development Tools" I get the following:
I can exclude the xorg entry and a dogtail dependency but it doesn't appear to install all the packages. I get the same if I run the install through Applications/add/remove software. I need to add these to a system so I can install StorNext filesystem software. I can select the development tools during the inital installation of the software and that works OK. Wouldn't installgroup install all the same or more packages as selecting the development tools option during the inital installation?

Pretty much self explanatory:This morning I went into the update manager, and found a bunch of RPM package-management stuff such as rpm, alien, compiling tools, etc. What is up with this?I suspect they are setting the scenery for some big press release saying they now support RPM packages in Ubuntu too. Any ideas? (or better, inside info from someone who knows)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed 32-bit CentOS 5.5 in a Vmware virtual machine. I'm unable to install RPMs from either the graphical U/I (Pirut) or CLI (Yum). Pirut stops responding (no screen repainting) after displaying the "Updating software" dialog; Yum gets to the display of "Running Transaction" where it hangs. The initial installation (from the net-install ISO) obviously succeeded, and the after-install update of about 50 packages also worked fine.
yum.log contains nothing past the entries made during the initial install. Because I had a problem with corrupted files from a mirror during installation I tried using the baseurl setting in CentOS-Base.repo instead of mirrorlist, but that had no effect.
