CentOS 5 :: Sendmail Occasionally (rarely) Rejects A Message With A "User Unknown" Status?
Mar 23, 2009
I use ldap to provide account and home directory services for sendmail.Unfortunately, sendmail occasionally (rarely) rejects a message with a "User unknown" status when the user is a legitimate user that has routinely been recognized in previous messages.I have not yet found a reason to suspect that the ldap server is failing to respond properly or in timely fashion to queries. However, since I believe this information is cached by nscd on the local mail server, I am suspicious that the problem may rest with nscd and its database. Is anyone aware of rather random failures to obtain correct information from an ldap query that is actually related to nscd? Also, I decided to just treat nscd as an application for purposes of this post
We're running a sendmail server on a fedora core 9 which we've configured recently. The problem is, the server is working fine but there are some e-mails that enter our server but doesn't get forwarded to the user.

Here it says "stat=Sent" but nothing from the above mail address has been received on the client's inbox. We've experienced this with Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express and Thunderbird alike so far with Two(2) of our user accounts.
I am using 10.4 on a Toshiba satellite pro L100 and have got it working well enough with ubuntu. However, every now and again it freezes on start up and I think it may be before the automatic disc driver check and scan that happens on start up now and again. It gets stuck and tells me
[ 33.117318][drm:rs400_gart_adjust_size]*ERROR*forcing to 32M GART SIZE (because of ASIC bug?)
I only ask as I have to do a hard shut down and computers don't like them do they?
when I try to send emails to new created emails account, I get this error:
<teste@topdapop.com>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual mailbox table And if I try to send a e-mail, the authentication fails if I setup the account at the desktop email client to password requirement on.
But it works when I try it using a webmail client (Horde) and I receive the email. The old emails accounts work fine. The new accounts and old ones were created with Plesk.I find an entry with
why no matter what email I send to a user I get this error relay1 postfix/local[4023]: 75941291D4: to=<username@domainname.com>, relay=local, delay=0.14, delays=0.07/0.02/0/0.05, dsn=5.1.1, status=bounced (unknown user: "username")
I updated bind to version bind-9.3.4-6.0.3.P1.el5_2 today, and then I started getting "Starting named: named: user 'named' unknown" messages. Selinux is enabled. ID named shows: uid=25(named) gid=25(named) groups=25(named) context=root:system_r:unconfined_t:SystemLow-SystemHigh
We are using one service Calypso but it is showing unknown status. I am using centos 5.0 Linux version and server client env. server and POS which is communucate with each other that is also stop working. after that service stop.
I tried posting this before and I'm not sure what happened but I don't think it worked, so if it did please forgive the double post.am very very new to centOS and linux in general. I just want to setup a test web server that more closely mirrors our actual web server that is hosted by rackspace. I've installed centOS and tried to setup Apache, PHP and MySQL from a guide on the web using Yum. When I go to localhost in the web browser I'm able to see the default apache page. However when I create a php page it's just blank. When I look at the apache error logs I get this: PHP Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: Permission denied in Unknown on line 0
I've been searching alot on the internet and I know the issue is permission related, but I don't know how to fix it. I've seen some forum posts that say you need to use the chmod 775 command on the /var/www/html folder.Currently when I do ls -l /var/www/html it returns
-rw------- 1 root root 19 May 5 13:16 index.php -rw------- 1 root root 19 May 5 13:15 index.php~
I'm sure that this isn't correct but like I said I don't know much about how to set permissions or who the owner needs to be. I've done alot of searching and seen similar posts, but no one seems to explain it clearly.
Many of mails sent from my mail server that are in Queue; The main reason is deffered by domains like yahoo, aol, etc.but there is one more error that i keep getting and that is Host Unknown,Below is an example from mail log,The catch is,test mail sent on the same email id sent from my personal mail from the same server i.e. url was deliveredHowever, another mail containing client information sent from customercare@mycompanysdomain ended up in queue.
There are more examples of the same, around 20 domain have the same problem.
I've been using cyrus and sendmail together for a very very long time now. Just recently I upgraded to fedora 13 and now my virtual users can not send email from the /etc/sasldb2 passwords. I get in the /var/log/messages sendmail[31427]: unable to open Berkeley db /etc/sasldb2: Unknown error: Its weird that they can still log in and get email from imapd.conf
I even tried re-creating sasldb2 and sasldblistusers2 shows my two users 'one' that is also a local user account and the saslauthd authenticates when sending emails, but the virtual user 'two' can't send just only can log in to receive. /etc/sysconfig/saslauthd is set up as mech=pam. but I don't see how that would be relevant to this issue.
I have an external hdd that I have added to the fstab so it will mount when I boot. But every time I add the line to fstab and reboot, it hangs during the boot process and says something about ureadahead-other status 4.
Here is my line in fstab.. /dev/sdc1 /NAS ext3 defaults 0 0
I couldn't remember what fs I chose when I formatted it so I did "sudo parted /dev/sdc print" and it said it was ext3.
I'm trying to figure out on why when I do a: service bind9 status This doesnt display anything in my command. Should be: Status of Bind9 server: bind9 is running. But this doesnt display at all.
So I have been at this problem for most of the morning and I have run out of ideas: I want to convert and mp4 to avi, and having uninstalled ffmpeg, winff and all other dependencies and followed the fabled guide[URL].... to install a complied version of ffmpeg, I keep on getting this error when trying to convert:
I installed Kubuntu 10.04 last couple days ago. Yesterday I installed some package software. After reboot, I had problem to login in GUI in Kubuntu. I tried few solutions in web I found, Now It became more worse ! After BIOS - show this error message error : unknown filesystem grub rescue>
reason is if someone installs the ATI driver, it will on boot give a white screen, the FGLRX driver wont work on this pc. (already doing second install of OS due to this issue)
I am on a DELL Latitude 6500 laptop. It has a physical button to enable wifi. On Kubuntu 10.10 it was working perfectly. Now that I have made a fresh install to 11.04, whenever I try and turn the wifi on, I get a status message that my wifi is enabled. But the led indicator does not glow. and I could not find my router nor any other routers in my building. The following is some of the that might be useful to debug.
According to this website [url] the wifi is compatible with ubuntu and does not need any external drivers I guess.
Here's the background info -- I recently installed Ubuntu server 8.04 on TWO machines that are exactly identical. On one machine, all seems perfect. On the other, when I execute "/etc/init.d/samba status" it always shows that smbd is NOT running. But it would seem that it IS running, since I can access the shares I've set up without difficulty either from smbclient on the server or from the windows boxes on the network.ps ax lists smbd as a process as well. The log tells me nothing -- it just reports that samba started. No errors. Not much of anything in there. And if I execute smbstatus, that works just like you'd expect.since the two machines are identical (and I mean exactly the same), and only one is doing this.
I guess I should be happy since they both work (seemingly perfectly). But it still bothers me that I'm getting the message that smbd isn't running on one of them. I tried uninstalling samba and reinstalling it on the machine giving me the erroneous (?) status message. But that changed nothing.Right now there's no data on the machine, and it's not in production, so just doing a bare metal reinstall of the OS is an option. But I'd like to understand what's happening.
I'm working on a friend's Samsung R530, Intel Core i3 3330M (T430) processor. It had Windows 7 installed, which crashed so I'm trying to recover the files before installing Ubuntu (the recovery partition is gone, there was no facility for making recovery disks and Samsung won't send any out). I put in the Live CD for 10.04 which took ages to load and then gave me the following error message:
udevd (90): worker (181) unexpectedly returned with status 0x0100 udevd (90): worker [180] failed while handling '/devices/pci 0000:00/0000:00:00:00'
which was repeated for [182] and [230] then it all went blank for ages then I got a message saying eject the cd and press enter, just like you do at the end of an install. However, I didn't get an option on whether to boot from the cd or install ubuntu. anyone got any clue what the error message means? and am I correct in thinking that the cd tried to install ubuntu? I've tried 3 different live cds, all of which have previously worked on other machines so I'm pretty sure it's not a cd issue.
But I can't get a single one of them to boot from cd and all throw up the same error messages, except the 9.04 cd, which just hangs. Have also tried a USB live image and got a disk error message. When I try booting from the HDD I get OS not found, boot from cd. Which is not entirely unexpected because of the previous problem with windows but it also seems that Ubuntu hasn't actually installed, or if it has then there's been a problem and it hasn't done it properly.
I am trying to send an email by sendmail (ubuntu) to external servers, but unable to send. following is what i am trying to do and what i got the response:
I am fairly new to linux and my laptop froze so I rebooted it and now I have this error. I have tried to load the files needed using the prompt but nothing seems to work so here is my bootinfoscript thing. Any way for me to reinstall ubuntu over the sda5 partition but keep my files?
Code: Boot Info Script 0.55 dated February 15th, 2010 = Boot Info Summary: = => Grub 2 is installed in the MBR of /dev/sda and looks on the same drive in partition #7 for /boot/grub. => Syslinux is installed in the MBR of /dev/sdb .....
In both CentOS 5.5 and FreeBSD 7.4 when I use Code: snmpget -v 1 -c public windows_host system.sysDescr.0 I get the remote windows machine system description just fine. But not in ubuntu. Searching snmp-net FAQ for the erroe message "Unknown Object Identifier", I got this to work around Code: snmpget -v 1 -c public 127.0.0.1 SNMPv2-MIB::system.sysDescr.0 But it not worked either.. Searching "MIB" using apt-file search, I installed "snmp-mibs-downloader", and now Code: snmpget -v 1 -c public 127.0.0.1 SNMPv2-MIB::system.sysDescr.0 works.. but Code: snmpget -v 1 -c public windows_host system.sysDescr.0 still breaks.. Why it works in CentOS and FreeBSD but not in Ubuntu?
I believe this has something to do with an mdadm update which was included in the release. When I configured the array, I didn't partition the disk devices, so maybe that has something to do with it. I am thinking of rebuilding the array and partitioning prior to build, but a quick fix would be referable.
And also something appears to have happened to the raid device since the update.
Prior to update, the array was /dev/md0 - now it is /dev/md/0 which is a symbolic link back to /dev/md0.
mdadm --detail --scan now reports /dev/md/0 where previously it reported /dev/md0
I created a new RAID1 array on a fresh system and immediately after the create, these messages appear at 5 minute intervals.
I am working with linux special edition LXFS Installed everything from the disk, works all fine but sometimes Linux shuts down suddenly and the following message appeals on a black screen. ' (proces 271) GLIB - warning getpwuid_r() : failed due to unknown uster id co) ' When I restart the computer everything is OK again. but than later it happens again.
I have set up a debian 5 server with ISPConfig and PostFix using Perfect Server toturial [url].
Now i have huge problem i'm getting eather "No such user here" message from SMTP server hosted at hosting provider or Unknow User: name from my ISP's SMTP server (free mails they provide)...
I installed the MOTU ffmpeg and libav ppa in Natty beta, the installation went through ok and media players all work. But I am having problems converting MP4 to MP3 (extracting audio) with the error message that libmp3lame unknown encoder. I checked that lame and libmp3lame0 are both installed. I wonder what might have been the missing piece.
Just delete a linux partition and now when i boot a message appears and says error: unknown filesystem grub rescue >
I have search on the net for this problem and i have understand it a little. But my situation is a bit different and because i don't want to format my hard disc i wanna try to fix it. So before a couple months i download ubuntu 9.10 and i installed it a month later. But my computer used to crash all the time and i couldnt use it. So i download the latest ubuntu 10.4 and install it while having windows xp and the old ubuntu 9.10(so i had windows xp, ubuntu 9.10 and ubuntu 10.4 partitions). Now i tried to delete the partition of ubuntu 9.10 from disc utility. so i have the message i wrote above when i boot. I dont wanna delete my windows xp and ubuntu 10.4. what should i do to stop this message from appearing.
