I'm looking to install the w3c-libwww package, but can't seem to find it in yum. Is there a safe repository somewhere I can enable to grab it, or am I going to have to install if from source? CentOS ver. 5.2/3
I just installed 32-bit CentOS 5.5 in a Vmware virtual machine. I'm unable to install RPMs from either the graphical U/I (Pirut) or CLI (Yum). Pirut stops responding (no screen repainting) after displaying the "Updating software" dialog; Yum gets to the display of "Running Transaction" where it hangs. The initial installation (from the net-install ISO) obviously succeeded, and the after-install update of about 50 packages also worked fine.
yum.log contains nothing past the entries made during the initial install. Because I had a problem with corrupted files from a mirror during installation I tried using the baseurl setting in CentOS-Base.repo instead of mirrorlist, but that had no effect.
Every time I selected addons and Mysql i got a notice of a bug report. So i gave in and only selected server and it is installing. I hope i can read enough to get it installed..
I have a Cent OS dedicated server, not sure what version though as I'm new to Linux. How do I find out what version I have? Is there an anti virus or security package that I can install on my server which can use Cron Jobs to do a scan every 12 hours.
Why does centos-release-notes have any dependancies ?
I can see no reason why centos-relese-notes should depend on centos-release when I try "yum erase centos-release-notes" I am told there are 72 dependancies including completely irrelevant packages such as tar all because of this unnecessary dependancy.
The centos-release-notes package simply contains a bunch of text/html files that nothing else relies upon, so why the dependancies ?
I am trying to see if there is an authbind equivalent or authbind package for CentOS/RHEL? x If so, where can I get more info and download it? It seems to be only available for Debian and Ubuntu.
I want to install CmapTools in my desktop, which runs v.10.04. I have downloaded the .bin file from their site.Is there a way to install it using Synaptic Package Manager?
I originally attempted to compile and install xmonad package by package, and the end result was this:
Code: $ xmonad /home/adx/.xmonad/xmonad-x86_64-linux: executeFile: does not exist (No such file or directory) X Error of failed request: BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied) Major opcode of failed request: 2 (X_ChangeWindowAttributes) Serial number of failed request: 7 Current serial number in output stream: 8 I figured I left out a flag on the make file or something, so I tried the slackbuild packages next; however, the same error was present at launch.
Sometimes i have on some magazines or Internet Zip packages that are the answer of what i am looking for.
Wich tool and how can i do it? c Well, i am in position to say that i had downloaded from Internet or located the package in the Cd or DVD that comes with the magazine.
But now comes the big question. How can i put this package ( install) on my distro ???
Do i have to be a normal user or should it be root or su (superuser) ?
The packages that come with the distro is easy, because i select them and everything is done
As i told before, maybe this is a silly question, but i simple don't know how to install them and i need some of them to leave MS for good.
I'm trying to install Alsa Player in my CentOS 5.2 using add/remove software. I get the following error:
Missing Dependency: libsndfile.so.1(libsndfile.so.1.0) is needed by package alsaplayer Missing Dependency: libjack.so.0 is needed by package alsaplayer Missing Dependency: libFLAC.so.8 is needed by package alsaplayer Missing Dependency: libsndfile.so.1 is needed by package alsaplayer Missing Dependency: libxosd.so.2 is needed by package alsaplayer Missing Dependency: libid3tag.so.0 is needed by package alsaplayer Missing Dependency: libmad.so.0 is needed by package alsaplayer
When I try to search the depencies using yum (yum search libsndfile), the result is : No Matches found.
There is a differentiation between a 'Server' install and a 'Server-GUI' install.
Using CentOS 5.4 DVD 1 graphic install...

So far I have not found a way to view the packages that are installed with the 'SERVER-GUI' option. I would like to upgrade my 'Server' to a 'Server-GUI'.
I'm updating a working kickstart configuration.Got a good iso from it the last time used.I simply want to add 2 rpms to the installation. So I added the rpms (libganglia & libconfuse) into the ../Server directory. I added those two names to the %packages section in the .cfg file. And I added those two names into two new appropriate lines in the ../Server/repodata/comps.xml file.
I ran "createrepo -g repodata/comps.xml ." from the ../Server (rpms) directory. I then ran my "mkisofs" without issue, and used the resulting .iso. The message I get during installation is "You have specified the package 'libganglia' should be installed. This package does not exist. Would you like to continue or abort your installation?". I've tried several variations of the createrepo command.
Today, I try to update firefox by Package Updater but show error by bellow. "Missing Dependency: xulrunner >= 1.9.0.19-1 is needed by package firefox-3.0.19-1.el5.centos.x86_64 (CentOS5updates)"
