I downloaded the 7 Cds .iso and I proceed to make a copy in a cds. I change the boot in my PC and restart the PC to read the cds. But the program instalation not running. What I need to do?
View 3 RepliesWhenever I start my PC, the information of 'First Boot device' in BIOS changes from hard disk to CD-Rom. It happens with new start, I mean, if I restart my computer after resetting First boot device to hard disk, then priority does not change. Just as I switch on computer, a black screen appears with the message:
CMOS - checksum error - defaults loaded
press F1 to continue, DEL to enter setup
Recently it used to happen, that PC was not reading my hard disk containing GRUB. I have 2 hard disks. I switched the power cables of two hard disks. After that, both hard disks were shown by BIOS but the above mentioned error started appearing. Also grub takes too much time to load. It takes almost 20 seconds. Earlier I was using 'Puppy Linux'. In that, Grub was loading in fraction of second.
I have a bad entry in /etc/fstab I have tried to tried to change in boot but it says read only. It will not take su. I have a livecd but I can't seem to get to my filesystem from a terminal where I can specify su

A.I have long boot up time.I think it's because of the eth0 network search which I don't use.I have an intel wireless 5300 card running.How can I speed up the boot time, i.e. disable or change the eth0 at boot, the searching?
B:When I restart or shutdown, the screen flashes repeatedly and gets some garbled colors along the top before finally rebooting looks like windows ME or something).This vostro has an intel x4500HD vid chipset in it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running into a strange problem trying to change the service load or boot order on my CentOS 5.3 box.
The service in question is shorewall. When I go to my /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/, I notice that shorewall is listed a S27shorewall. I need it to start much later. So I run a simple command "mv S27shorewall S99shorewall"
I then restart the server. But after the reboot, something has reset it back to S27shorewall.
For those of you who like the background story: I need to change it to S99shorewall, because I need shorewall to start AFTER xend does all its stuff, as xend messes around with the underlying networking of the computer. The xend stuff was at S98 and S99...but I was able to successfully rename them back to S97 and S98, and the rename stuck. I've also renamed other service orders. Those stick. The only one that gets reset is shorewall, always back to S27. I have no clue how to tell what is causing the resetting...

View 4 Replies View RelatedBecause I am working with some 3d software, and to be able to start it I need to symlink libGL.so.1 and libGL.so.1.2 from /usr/lib64/ to libGL.so.1 and libGL.so.1.2 from /usr/lib64/catalyst/ folder. I move existing libs to new names by adding .bak at the end of file name.
But everytime I restart machine soemthing changes libGL.so.1 linking from libGL.so.1.2 (in catalyst folder) to libGL.so.1.2.bak (in usr/lib64/ folder), original file. And I can not start 3d software. Can I stop that from happening somehow? Why is that happening at all?
Had to restart following an extract crash, and upon restarting, much of my theme, including all my icons had changed. Prior to this I was using the Awoken Icon Set. I've gone through and rerun the Awoken Customization script, but no luck. Simply trying to change my theme, and icons in the theme manager doesn't work either.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed openSUSE on my notebook with an usb drive using openSUSE 11.4 KDE LIVE iso. The installation process set the name to "linux-ygrl" which I don't really like. (I probably just missed the setting during the installation.). I tried to change it through YaST -> Network -> Hostnames and I set everything where needed to the new name and restarted but the changed weren't applied. I searched the web and found out about the /etc/HOSTNAME file which still contains "linux-ygrl". Now I could change it manually but I was wondering if there is a GUI for it? (I mean, openSUSE has for alsmost everything a GUI.

Appletv wasn't great, so now i have a lovely acer revo running XBMC Live, and it's blooming great. my problem is my USB drive mounts, but i think it's read-only, as i am struggling to sftp new files to it. so my question is:
How do i make the drive writeable?
I've read things about disabling journling, an fstab file, chown in terminal, but im really struggling.
In temrinal if i navigate to the /media folder and run ls -al, i get this: (note the usb drive is called AppleTV)

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my system, and I put in a really old game CD for my really old computer. I cannot run the setup program , however because "it is not executable". I can't change this , because it is read-onlybut I can't chane this either. As I'm new to this, I was wondering .

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've already formatted it 3 times, it works for 1 try then it turns read Only again. I'm looking for a fix that doesn't make me delete everything before I want to use it, because this is getting ridiculous.
Going into further detail:
Randomly when sticking the USB into the PSP the console/computer chooses that it's READ ONLY and you can't change anything in permissions.
Generally, I LOVE Ubuntu 10.04...best Ubuntu yet, IMO. But there's this one thing about it that really bugs me, and that is that all executable files on CD/DVD are set with very restricted permissions, including the 'Allow executing file as program' checkbox being left blank. Since CD/DVD's are read-only, I can't change these permissions the normal way or even just execute the files as root!
So far I've been able to get by with just copying the disk's contents to the hard drive and then running the program with altered permissions from there, but right now I want to install Unreal Tournament 2004 (the DVD version, if that makes any difference) and its Linux installer will not function properly from a local directory, so I'm stuck on this one.
Surely there's some way to alter the permissions for a read-only filesystem! Can't I just set system-wide permissions that would even apply to CD's and DVD's?
With a Netbook that runs Kubuntu 10.04 i have always stored by regular files on a SD card. For ease I have used symbolic links to save and retrive data from the card such as a Documents folder. After a power crash my SD card which has always been read/write has changed to read only. The links do not work and if I try to make a new link "Read-only file system" is the error.
I have tried chmod with the same error message. Device is owned by me not root. Saving to the device also returns the same error message.
I have looked at a couple of similar streams but neither has any final resolution.

When I restart the VM it forgets all my preferences or other settings (keyboard(using azerty here), firefox bookmarks, even the desktop beackground) are reset. This happens with the root user and the default centos user. Is there something I'm looking over or is there something I can do about that problem?

I am trying to get my Multimedia player to work with Ubuntu I can't have access to it because it said that it is read only. I have got to gksudo and tried to change the permission on it but can't. The player works fine on a windows computer. All my other usb devices work fine I was able to change permission in the folders but not the drive.

When I reboot my CenOS, my nic does not. If I run eht0, I get the following:

With the 5.3 CDS I started an install got through to 98% of CD 3 but I was called away. Came back this morning and the box was on, but had frozen. Every time I reboot, cold boot, I come up with black screen. Vers 0.97 <grub> Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. TAB etc. Is there a way I can get to CD 4 and continue the install, or am I back to the top again?
