CentOS 5 :: Debian Netinstall Long Done, CentOS 5 Still Trying To Retrieve Stage2.img?
Apr 2, 2009I am trying to install 5.3 using net install disc, where it hangs for over 30 minutes trying to retrieve stage2.img. Second time. After first time and waiting over 25 minutes, I tried Debian net install on another box, and it's done with installation long ago, while this one is still hanging (and from the looks of it I doubt it will continue).
1. Network is good, the box pings, network parameters are good, Debian worked flawlessly with same parameters
2. It did pull all it needed before stage2.img
3. Plenty of RAM in the box, over 3 GB
4. The box needs no additional drivers (except newer version of kernel as vanilla still doesn't have a complete support for Intel DP43TF board), distro has them all

Unable to Retrieve Software Information
This could be caused by not having available connection.
Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: addons
To get my browser to work properly, I have to specify a proxy (manual) and use the IP address of our proxy server. After this, I'm able to get out through the internet
using my browser. Not sure why I fail to get software updates though. I used the same setting in Proxy - Control Center. Repository Manager show's CentOS-5 - Addons mirror list as :

..and I can get to the site with the browser.

Sep 14, 2010I recently set up a kickstart server using Centos 5. I copied all 7 of the centos 5 install cd's to the tree. I made the install cd, it boots fine. I'm using http, when I'm prompted, I put in the web site: 1.1.1.1 and the Centos directory of /network-install/RPM
I get the following error:
Unable to retrieve [URL]
I've been told the double slashes after the ip address is not a problem, and I've tested that through a browser, by browsing the same location. (not sure if
that's a valid test, but it did find the directory and display the files.)

When I attempt to add software i get the following error:

CentOS 5 :: Sound-juicer Does Not Retrieve Track Data?
May 19, 2011I have a fully up-to-dateCentOS 5.6. As of some very recent package update (later than May 12), sound-juicer is unable to retrieve track data for any disc; it just reports "Unknown Title" and "Unknown Artist".
Unfortunately I do not know how to tell which particular package it was, or even how to get a list of recently-updated packages.
Tracks are still extracted fine, it's just the musicbrainz connection which is doa.
I'd be happy to try an alternative program with musicbrainz capability, but couldn't find any. The installed k3b doesn't have any ripping options in the tools menu, where I gather it's supposed to be.

I can see no reason why centos-relese-notes should depend on centos-release when I try "yum erase centos-release-notes" I am told there are 72 dependancies including completely irrelevant packages such as tar all because of this unnecessary dependancy.
The centos-release-notes package simply contains a bunch of text/html files that nothing else relies upon, so why the dependancies ?

Oct 2, 2009I have installed a base 5.2 server. I updated the network proxies in preferences and also updated the values for internet access. I can't get the package updater to work. I can use "yum update" and this work but I don't want to update everything. I have allowed a full update and one or more of them is affecting an IOZone test I am running to fiber storage. If I run the test to the base install, it completes OK. If I run the test after all the updates, the test fails with file writes and test files diaappearing. In any case, I would like to use the software updated hoping this will allow me to selectively add the updates.There is about 400 updates that get applied. I am currently getting the 5.3 image and will do and install with that to see if the test runs.
