I have my server configured to update automatically every night. However, updates are failing with the following message: There was a problem updating the system. The following error message was reported:
['Not installing key'] If the problem persists, manual intervention may be required. how to troubleshoot or resolve this issue?
I have recently decided to rebuild my fedora install and have had several problems installing the updates to the system. I am receiving the following error:

I am more familiar with using sources.list in debian style distros but I am unsure how to proceed with /etc/yum/repos.d. I am currently attempting to either install them from the CLI or to download the binaries, but I do not think that will fix the problem in my repository lists.
I try to update my computer through the updater and it does not work, it fails, so it brings me to YaST, and that fails to... what is going on? Why are my updates failing?

For some reason Update Manager is not installing updates as of yesterday.I have it set to check daily and notify if updates are available. It has been working without issues for well over a year now.
Update Manager tells me updates are available and presents the list of security, recommended, and other updates. All are selected to update, but when I select Install Updates in Update Manager it returns with a Reading Package Information window overlaid on the main Update Manager window - building dependency tree then reading state information and dumps me back to the main Update Manager window without performing any update actions.
7 months using Linux , 2 months in this Forum. I'm searching for answers too long. My vga card crashes to a black screen with 178 and 183 drivers searching and executing threads for this problem does not fix nada.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running CentOS 5.4 and noticed that for the past month there haven't been any new updates showing up either on 'yum check-update' or 'yum update' (I'm interested in basic and security updates). Although this may be right, I wonder if there is an online reference where I can check the updates that are released for CentOS (security bulletins) and make sure if there is anything wrong with my update system.

So i try another until all have been tried so reboot and everything works again. Im not technically minded and have NO idea why this is happening .

Unfortunatels there ist a problem: I wanted to compile a driver for my wlan-card but got the known error "make: command not found". So I searched this forum and found in this thread that I need to install the development tools. But when I try to do so by typing yum groupinstall "Development Tools" it first starts but then cancels with an error message claiming missing dependencies to a perl package:

Due to my ignorance I tried yum install perl but this also fails with the same error message I am sure it is just a bite for you but I don't hava a clue right now By the way I already can call the command make install now for the wlan-card driver. It also starts but fails and says:

I have Dell rack server. With the network card of five network ports. But I am just using first one (eth0).
Now the problem:
Its connected the internet and the internet is working fine. I also got update using yum.
When I do ifconfig to check its dynamic IP. It also shows the IP(something like: 192.168.x.x), but if I go to services and try to start DHCPd service its fails. Its not starting at all. And If I go to other computer (Windows 7) and try to ping the dell servers IP, I cannot ping it. So since I cannot ping it from other computer, so no one we can have remote access to the dell server.
I dont understand without starting DHCPd how the dell server is getting the IP address.
So I thought maybe DHCP is corrupted so I removed it using yum and reinstalled it using yum, but no luck so far.
I am running CentOS-5x as guest OS in VMware workstation environment. Till, yesterday everything was fine... Today, when i start up I don't see the Desktop coming up, may be the GDM is failing in some way ( guess though). Xserver is working, coz I could see xclock/xyes are loading, also i have checked /etc/inittab, runlevel is set to 5. I did not see any entry in /etc/sysconfig/desktop, thus it shows DESKTOP="" I tried to change it to DESKTOP="GNOME", but it has not worked.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHave just installed 5.4 64 bit on an AMD64 x2 system with 4 GB ram running ESXi4.Text based install went fine, but on reboot starting up it gets as far as 'Starting udev' and just hangs. Checking the performance in ESXi it appears to be using 100% cpu.I have left it for half an hour and it does not progress and the only thing to do is to power cycle the VM.I have searched and found a few suggestions for kernel parameters but they did not make any difference. I can't even get in to a command line as it doesn't boot up far enough.I have reinstalled it several times and also checked the MD5 of the downloaded file and all appears Ok.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have two recently installed centos machines, each running 5.5, and hosting an elastix pabx distro as well as a Virtual PC instance. On both machines, the network adaptor fails completely every week or so. As they are remote machines, the only option we have when this happens is a manual reboot.
I might be barking up the wrong tree here, but the only significant difference on these machines to others we have deployed is the Virtual PC instance. The machines have dual ethernet ports, with one assigned to the virtual PC. When the network failure occurs, it does not effect the virtual machine, which continues along merrily.
My expert colleague does not think so, but can anyone think of any way that our configuration could be causing the problem? If not, does anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be, or where I would start looking for information on the machine to debug the issue?
There have been no updates recently (for almost two months) on any of my CentOS 5.5 boxes when I run 'yum check-update'. I may be misunderstanding the repo setup, but looking at the file mod dates, it seems that there hasn't been an update since 2011-01-06:[URL]...Meanwhile, a prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor has had multiple security and bug fixes since then:[URl]...Is CentOS 5.5 still getting updated, or am I missing something (quite possible).
View 12 Replies View RelatedAfter doing an update a couple of days ago (had previously upgraded to 5.6), the font size in firefox (file forward reload, etc), terminal and the panel (using xfce) are significately smaller. Searching the web, mail lists and the forums have not resulted in finding anyone else with this problem. I did notice that glibc has a bug that is currently being worked on at Redhat but it is unclear if the font problem I am seeing is related. Note also, that the initial upgrade to Centos 5.6 was successful.

Pressing the power button may be my only option? And if I do shut it down do I just run updates again to pick up where I've left off. I'm a bit concerned I'll end up with corrupted files

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a dual boot system (Compaq Presario CQ61) with Windows 7 and Ubuntu installed. A while back I updated my Ubuntu system to the 11.04. All went smoothly. Then recently, when the system prompted me, I installed some updates. Since then when I try to boot into Ubuntu I end up at a CLI with (initramfs) as the prompt.I can still successfully boot off of the Windows 7 partition.After reading a lot of articles describing similar problems, and failing to find a fix, I reinstalled 11.04.The system came up without any problems. BUT then, as usual, the system prompted me to install updates. Once I was done installing them and rebooted the computer I was back at the (initramfs) prompt.
