Sometimes during bootup I get the following error:Starting Dovecot Imap: Fatal: listen(995) failed: Address already in useI tried to figure out what I could with the command lsof -i :995 and this was my output:COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAMErpc.mount 2936 root 7u IPv4 9201 TCP *:pop3s (LISTEN)When the system boots without the dovecot error the output of losof -i :995 is as follows:

Getting this error seemingly randomly at login: There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon. Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work correctly.
The last error message was: Launch helper exited with unknown return code 1 GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in. I thought I might be logging in to fast, but it happened again when I had waited several minutes.
I have Centos 5.1 and im a total newbie. I have managed to get it running with Apache and PHP but after I install mysql it fails to start with the above error. I have removed it as well using YUM and reinstalled it but it still will not start.
I've installed CentOS 5.x (64 bit) on a Hyper-V Server R2. When I trying to install integration serices I get an error: [root@localhost ~]# cd /opt/linux_ic_v21_rtm/ [root@localhost linux_ic_v21_rtm]# make Building all modules... make -C /lib/modules/2.6.18-164.el5/build SUBDIRS=/opt/linux_ic_v21_rtm/src modules make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.18-164.el5/build: No such file or directory. I need to copy files over from a Solaris 2.6 box to my machine running Centos 5.3. I have to use RCP since the Solaris box is so old that is the only inter-machine copy command available. How do I enable rshd services on my centos box? Detailed explanation would be apperciated since I am from the ssh generation.
I've been trying to get my internal microphone to work in F12, and as part of the things I've tried I had the seemingly bad idea of reinstalling pulseaudio. The problem now is that pulseaudio fails to start... The following is from /var/log/messages, and is repeated several times:Code:Nov 24 08:51:20 localhost pulseaudio: main.c: Daemon startup without any loaded modules, refusing to work.
I have fedora 12 32 bits installed on a Macbook pro (intel core duo) I did "yum update" this morning, I have restarted the system and got the following message:Starting abrt daemon: abrtd: Failed to start: got sig 2 FAILEDI have browsed in the web but I cannot find useful information. I joined a company as an IT staff 2 months plus back. I now encounters a problem that the booting up hangs at the time when it is starting domino services. I have no clue where to look at and duno where to start checking. A little description of the server. : It's a lotus notes domino server for employees webmail service. -> Now it is down. it's an external dns server: recently high volumes of query cache denied surfaces. it's also our proxy server. The only way to get it up and running is to turn off domino service. The system is running still with high volumes of queries I last checked.
Althrough it can boot up now and DNS & proxy are running, I couldn't access the system anymore. It will hang when I attempt to log in from the command prompt. Below is an illustration:
iasaix login: root -> I attempt to log in using root user password: xxxxxxxx -> I keyed in my password -> The cursor comes down and just keeps blinking and nothing happens.
Remote access is not possible as it has sshd disabled by default. Our employees cannot access their webmail now, which is a major issue.
I'm trying to run BoxBackup to sync a couple active servers to a data server. I installed the server and client, making sure to follow the instructions closely with all the certificates. The problem is the service daemon on the service won't even start. The service manage reports: "bbstored dead but pid file exists" (basically, tried to instantiate the process, but it died due to faults).
Here's the log of the daemon in /var/log/box

I have SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 running on HP Mini 2133. It's been working like a dream since I got it, but one day I got the following error message when booting it: Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface). It is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the X server output to diagnose problem? <Yes> <No>.
X server output says alot of things, but I think this is the most important: (==)Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" ACPI: OSPMOpen Called ACPI: Opening device (EE) VIA(0): No valid modes found
I then get the login:. I'm able to login, but I have no clue on what to do. How can I fix this?
I installed Red-hat 5.3. Problem is that it is not showing graphical interface. Only kernel / command prompt is available. I tried startx, then I got this msg. No video BIOS modes for chosen depth. Also showing that: ERROR: Failed to start X server.
