I am trying to setup a NIS on a CentOS 5.3, I have installed the ypserv and yp-tools. but when i look at the /usr/lib/ there is no a folder called "yp". So there is no way to execute "ypinit" command.
View 3 RepliesI've recently made an NIS installation which worked out fine until I changed some hostname configurations incorrectly and found myself in a big mess. I decided to simply start from scratch seeing as how the entire installation process takes but minutes, however, when trying to run ypinit to run the Makefile I found that /var/lib/ypinit is no longer there. So far I've tried removing the ypserv, ypbind, and yp-tools rpm packages and re-intalling them via yum.

Whenever I am trying to change the webroot of the httpd server, it usually say "directory doesn't exist". whereas which can't be the case as it is home directory of the user.
To achieve this, what Do I need to do?
The second issue, I am facing that whenever I am adding new directories to public_html folder, it is not accessible. as the error page 404 is shown. I have changed the permissions to 0705 and ownership is also transferred to other user. What else is required to make new directories accessible by the web?
One of our client having issue with the qmail. The issue is if any one send email to abc@ourdomain.com (abc@ourdomain.com the email address which is not exist) it should send failure notification i.e."email does not exist" to the sender. The qmail server is not notifying that email address does not exist.

I've installed CentOS 5.3 on a machine, and I need a Samba version 3.2 or higher. Since 3.4 is out, I thought I'd grab that. But, "yum list|grep samba" gives me only version 3.0.33. Is there a package of Samba I can grab that will upgrade the 3.0 installation so that I don't have two laying around? If not and I need to compile from source, do you have any suggestions for what arguments I should give configure? I'm not used to Linux coming from the BSD world

I am having trouble logging into a newly installed CentOS 5.3 box. I can SSH into the machine with root but can not do so with any normal users. I get the error, "connection refused." My firewall is currently turned off.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a dual boot windows XP/ubuntu 9.10 set up on one hard drive. Everything was working fine. The 9.10 install had been updated from 9.04. I recently had problems with the XP partition (XP basically collapsed) so I re-installed XP on the same partition it was on before. I then attempted to reinstall Ubuntu ( I decided I wanted a new 'clean' installation of Ubuntu as well). When I got to the partition function it refused to recognize that there is a Windows partition, or a previous ubuntu partition, but states 'No operating system installed' or similar, and offers the entire hard drive for installation. When I look at the partitions using Windows partition software the Windows and the ubuntu partitions are clearly in evidence. I have also tried to reinstall GRUB but it doesn't appear to exist.

When I configured my vsftpd I was just wondering how to setup xinetd or inetd for listening on ports and starting vsftpd. I found /etc/xinetd.d. But there is no xinetd installed by default. Why? Shall I start all my services in standalone mode? What is the concept of CentOS in this issue?

I just installed VMware server 2.02 on a CentOS 5.4 machine. I tried to run 'vmware': it starts via my web browser (firefox) with xdg-open. Then, firefox displays this:

Yesterday I installed a new server with a large partition for my XEN images. This partition is a about 930GB. The installation tooks ages and after he finished I was finding out why that is. The SoftRAID1 I configured is rebuilding the large partition.

Then I tried using VMware server, but apparently VMware Workstation deleted some of VMware Servers files. So, I uninstalled VMware Workstation. if <string> exists
command
or
if <any member of this list exists>
command
I know how to manually search a file with grep, cat, etc., but the "if this exists" part eludes me.
User root does exist. Sendmail doesn't deliver email to local user. This is standard instalation from apt-get install. Everything worked ok since year. Everything worked ok until recently. The server worked just over a year.

I chose the "Server (GUI)" option when installing the system, but upon completion of the install, I'm presented with a text mode login screen. Logging in as root drops me to a shell in text mode as I would expect.
What exactly IS "Server (GUI)?" I was thinking it would be a stripped down X11 desktop.
The main role of the Virtualbox instance is to run a server stack that we run on other CentOS machines, but I want Eclipse and perhaps just a few other GUI tools on it, without all the kitchen-sink crap that (I assume, coming from the Ubuntu world) comes with a "Desktop" install.
I am in the process of migrating my old server into new Linux new server. As part of the , apache configuraton is one of the process . i have installed http with yum. i added some test dir like /date/test underwhich i created one test.html. When i start apache , it says Starting httpd: Warning: DocumentRoot [/data/test] does not exist.i am not sure about it. I have directory exists. however it shows the error message.

Our server's been running smoothly before but i dunno what happened. I can send mails to gmail and yahoo as well... but there are like 3 domains which we cannot send mails to.
I've got two files. They both contain package names. Is there any way I can go through the package list on one file, and search to see if each package exists in the other file? What I'd want to do, is if the package name is found in the the main file, then go to the next line. If its not found then print that package name to another file.
I know you can use diff, but it doesn't seem to be that straight forward. As I understand it diff searches line by line, so if line one doesn't match line one in another file, then it prints it out. That's not exactly what I want.
I just really need an easy way to filter out the additional packages that exist on a new server. If I have a list of packages that aren't on the original server, then i can just delete them.
Not sure if I've made any sense but there must be a quicker way to do what i need to. It would take me ages to scan manually through the package names in each list, and highlight the ones i dont need.

I've done very little with email on linux, and haven;'t touched sendmail since 2000 so I am really out of my element.Basically the sendmail server for many months has had performance problems, disk, and load.Looking into it I found this doing a tail on /var/log/MaillogAug 25 17:11:49 web8 sendmail[1531]: o7OGF2VH002566: to=postmaster, delay=1+01:58:10, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=2388694, relay=[xx.xx.xx.xx], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: [10.10.20.107]:No route to hostAnd that was all it was spewing, I edited the config files because xx.xx.xx.xx doesn't exist. And running m4, then restarting sendmail.It is still spewing out that message, but I do see some things connecting to the new yy.yy.yy.yy address. I even greped the entire /etc looking for the old machine.
