CentOS 5 Server :: Ifconfig Cannot Open /proc/net/dev
May 13, 2009
Just installed a new CentOS with the control panel Interworx. Everything fine, BUT. I can't add new ipadresses cause there is no network device. When i do 'ifconfig' i get the following:
[root@cobra ~]# ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1C:C0:A7:25:9F
inet addr: Bcast: Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
I have a while(1) loop, and the error is: glibtop: open (/proc/stat): Too many open files This error occurs after about a half hour to an hour of running. I've tried running this multiple times, both with using glib_close() at the end of the loop, using glib_init() and glib_close() at beginning/end, and just using glib_init(). The strange thing is these have no effect on the actual glib_get functions.
i had some issue with the machine rebooting multiple times, What happens is that the machine boots up and suddenly crashes and then boots up cleanly. I was going through the log files during when this occurs. I came across /var/log/syslog which i guess logs messages before shutdown. It has following messages which i think are causing problem.
Could not open /proc/26694/stat: No such file or directory Could not read the file /proc/26694/stat Could not open /proc/31128/stat: No such file or directory Could not read the file /proc/31128/stat
I've got the F13 LiveCD that I was able to boot and use using the "nomodeset" boot option. From the desktop I'm trying to perform an Install to Hard Drive. I've read the Install from LiveCD post regarding the creation of a /boot partition and a / root partition. I've tried creating them without the LVM group and with. But every time I appempt to install I get...
An error occurred mounting device proc as /proc: mount failed: (9, None). This is a fatal error and the install cannot continue.
Hardware is a Sager 8887 (P4, 3.06HT, 60GB HDD, Radeon 9000 graphics adapter)
While experimenting with rsync, I accidently deleted a bunch of files in the /proc directory. I think it was the directories: 1, 2, 3 ... 10.This happened a few days ago and after rebooting a number of times, I do not notice any problems.
Centos el5xen x86_64 in a company network, novell-netware, Static IP I have several issues with the Xen network configuration. This configuration worked before, and was maded by a other personn with a higher level in centos and network . I'm trying to re-install xen in bridging mode.
1) The dom0 ping in the company network, but can't acess to the Internet.
I de-activated firewall, iptables and SE-Linux for the test.
the ifconfig-a command return eth0 lo sit0 (IPV6 encapsuled in IPV4) vif0 vnet0 but no Peth0 Physical device
i have encounter strange situation i have set all my network configuration via /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 ,eth0.2 ,eth1 etc ....i have used only once Gnome network manage settings to add routing since then all my network config change although all files mention above showing the same config i have set initially and same for Gnome network Manager.
i'm using Centos 5.3 (2.6.27.10-grsec-xxxx-grs-ipv4-64 x86_64 kernel) and i got a problem with installing apf/configuring iptables. It seems that my kernel doesn't support Loadeble Kernel Modules. I'm receiving following message when catting /proc/modules: Quote: cat: /proc/modules: No such file or directory /sbin/modprobe -l FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.27.10-grsec-xxxx-grs-ipv4-64/modules.dep: No such file or directory
I have installed CentOS. I have two ethernet card (one onboard and one PCI). I am able to set ip for realtek ethernet card and my atheros(on board) is not shown in network ifconfig shows only one ethernet card (PCI) hen i gave the command lspci i got the following output
I have some errors when run the mount -all command: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdc5, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so Failed to open /proc/filesystems: No such file or directory
So after compiled the cgi script, I put it in the folder /var/www/cgi-script/
I try to access via my web browser and in the apache error log : I have this "/var/www/cgi-bin/mapserv" : error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.11.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
In my httpd.conf, I just add the following in order to provide the shared libraries for my cgi script :
Newbie here! Our website CMS is a Tomcat webapp, which runs on a CentOS 5.6 release (Final). The webapp needs a permanent increase of the max. open files value. Currently, the site is "crashing" frequently due to continuous "Too many open files" exceptions that eventually will occur when traffic increases.
This is what I've done to try to increase the max. open files value code...
But still, when I log in (as any user, incl. root), ulimit -n shows 1024, not 16384. Am I missing something here? And, more importantly; Will Tomcat be able to open > 1024 files after my changes mentioned above?
I have a script that needs to extract certain information form the /proc/net/ip_conntrack file once in a while. I do not wish to run this script as the root user.
Default permissions for the file is:
I can change it with:
But that does not stick after a reboot. Is there some configuration file for file-permissions in the /proc directory in Ubuntu Server 9.10? Or do I just have to stick a chmod line in some startup script?
So, the NSA puts out some handy documentation on locking down a RHEL server (running centos 5.6 x64 myself) here, [url]. Under "Ensure System is Not Acting as a Network Sniļ¬er" on page 63, it says that if any numbers below the first line in /proc/net/packet, that it is acting as a network sniffer.
I get the following output:
Code:
Unless I've been pwned, I don't know exactly what could be causing this. Besides samba, nmap (compiled from source, not from yum), screen, and rtorrent, there's nothing I've installed beyond the fresh install I did a few days ago. I was not running nmap when looking at /proc/net/packet.
Ok For some reason I open my ports in security and firewall. I open ssh and other ports and port 7001 for example but when I go to check to see if they are open or try to connect to them. It shows that they are still closed. I am using - [URL] Also yes my ports are open on my router. I know my router works fine with opening ports because I have shoutcast setup on another computer with xp that is currently running. I am willing to pay for who can ever get this fixed for me...
I have a dns server started with 2 NIC Cards in it. The bios sees both cards but they both dont show in ifconfig. is there a way to activate the second card?
I am currently trying to get my server box to recognize my Samsung epic 4g (sprint) which is rooted and has usb tether enabled. It works perfectly and effortlessly on my ubuntu desktop box, but I hook it up to my server box and ifconfig does not find a usb0 device like my desktop does. I am running 10.4.1 on both desk and server box.
I've a webserver with a lot of documentary to serve. Some of the users have problems with the new microsoft documents like docx. Internet explorer 7 want to open the file like a zip-file not as word document. I've googelt around and found a solution that didn't work for me: [URL] I've added at /etc/mime.types
[Code]....
After a restart of httpd , nothing chance, always the same failure with internet explorer 7.
I installed Debian on my NAS and I installed nfs to share the files, but I cannot mount anything over nfs with the it. it seems that I dont get the exports right.I added the IP to the hosts.allow, I added it to the exports.to make it easier, shananigen has the IP 192.168.10.33 and is the serverdebian has the IP 192.168.1.34 and is the clientis there a problem if I go across subnets?anyway, here we go
I have sendmail running on my centOS 4.6. My lamp server also runs on it. I want to send mail through php mail function. when i execute php page, which fires the mail function, it takes so much long tim1 say even 1 minute, and at last displays that message sent successfully. Suppose, destination address is [URL].... I did not get any mail there. My server is running in LAN. I checked the status of sendmail, it shows me that it ios running. when i issue "nmap localhost" it shows me that SMTP port 25 is open, but when i issue "nmap myserver" (192.168.1.20 myserver ( written in hostfile)), it does not show that SMTP port is open.
I checked the /var/log/maillog, one person in my previous post advice me to see that. There it shows that message is accepted for delivery...but i do not get any mail in my destination, even not in spam folder. One more confusion is that, in my case my server is in LAN and if I am at all enable to open the SMTP port on it, does i need to open SMTP port on my router (which connects my LAN to internet) also needs to open? I think no, because SMTP is application layer protocol, it will wrap my mail in IP packet, which router just need to forward. am i right?
