CentOS 5 Server :: Yum Update Error Behind MS Proxy

I am attempting to use yum behind a MS Proxy. I am receiving the following error:
#yum list
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/os/i386/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (-2, 'Name or service not known')>
Trying other mirror. Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: base. Please verify its path and try again I beleive the yum.conf is configured correctly:

I've Installed CentOS 5.5 on an HP Compaq DK2300 with Intel Pentium dual Core.Connected to a network with HTTP Proxy at cmsbs1 port 8080.
via the System/Preferences/NetworkProxy, I set up the relevant info including Username and Password
env | grep proxy
http_proxy=http://Username:Password@cmsbs1:8080/
no_proxy=localhost,127.0.0.0/8
Now able to connect to the internet with Mozilla Firefox. Package Updater still not receiving updates....Opened Terminal window and logged in as root: Added following to the yum.conf file:
proxy=http://cmsbs1:8080/
proxy_username=Username
proxy_password=Password
Saved the file and re-start the system (full re-boot). Opened Terminal window and logged in as root:
yum list
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror
Loading mirror speeds from catched host file

I've been struggling with this for a couple of days now. I'm trying to setup a reverse proxy with SSL. The config works when it's not using SSL, but as soon as I setup the virtualhost for 443, I get a ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED in my browser.
The setup is that it's a CentOS 5.6 running Apache 2.2.3. I was configuring it via this guide: [URL]
This server is acting as a reverse proxy for a Windows server running Apache. Currently, I'm just trying to get the manager page from the Windows server to go through the reverse proxy. Here's the virtual host section of my httpd.conf file on the reverse proxy:
<VirtualHost *:443>
ServerName aspwebview.vtinfo.com
SSLEngine On
SSLCertificateFile /etc/httpd/ssl/star_vtinfo.com.crt

Thoughts? Is there anything I have to do on the Windows server (maybe in the connector section of server.xml)?

On two Centos5 servers, yum gives a segmentation fault error when trying 'yum update' or 'yum check-update' after running 'yum clean' :

The error is the same for the other computer except while attempting to update the rpmforge repository. Nothing has really changed on the servers in some time and 'yum update' worked fine on each yesterday and I have no idea why they would both suddenly fail!

While configuring the yum through proxy i was configures with some address(10.x.x.x). after the proxy address has been changed(172.x.x.x).according to new proxy address i made changes in all locations in my system. but when i am trying to download through command line still it is trying to connect old proxy address(10.x.x.x). finally i come to know that, still some location old proxy address(10.x.x.x).is there. how to troubleshoot this issue.(how to find the location) i was try to debug find the output below

We have one squid proxy server running on CentOS 5.3 64 bit with Squid 2.6. it works well for me.
but my problem/question is :
Is it possible to skip proxy for all Internet addresses? and only allow proxy if clients are accessing external addresses?
right now users have to explicitly say in the browsers .. BYPASS PROXY SERVER for local addresses after check the use proxy server
and address has to be mentioned. most users are non technical so they don't use this option or put wrong setting in bypass proxy option

I'm trying to set up a server for an NPO who connects to the Internet through an internal proxy (Websense). I can't access the Internet unless through the proxy.
Since it's a server I did not install a GUI so I'm wondering how to connect the new server to said proxy server. I have the IP address, port number and username-password for the proxy server. The new server has a static IP address and is ready too go!

today there was problem with isp but we fix it now other machine run internet fine but when we run through squid proxy machine it give this message to all users. what fields column values config i should check it. i also reset the cache make empty folder. restart machine also service clear the logs . it is on centos 5.4

today i encountered centos 5.5 final server with a squid configured to block facebook from 9am to 4pm. i have tried to follow up the steps but am stack where time restriction is done and there is no proxy configuration done in the browser. the ip address of the server is being used as the default gateway.

I'm trying to setup a Centos 5.6 Squid Proxy Server with Content Filtering & Antivirus Scanning Incoming HTTP Traffic from the Internet
I then proceeded to setup an configure the Proxy Server, i was able to test and confirm that Squid and Dansguardian Content Filter is working, however i dont know if Clamav is scanning HTTP traffic before it hits the client/server. Is there a way i can check if the Antivirus scanning is working.. is there some log file or real world test i can i can do to confirm that Clamav is scanning incoming traffic or even blocking potential viruses ??
Anyone who has squid proxy server with Clamav configured and its working can share there settings/setup with me and how they tested it ??

I am trying to set up my squid3 proxy as a transparent proxy - right now, I have to manually configure browsers to access via proxy. I understand that I have to put some rules into Iptables and also some further directives in the squid.conf.
I have a couple of specific questions. The proxy server is running on a Ubuntu 10.04 workstation and this machine also acts as a dhcp server for the network. I have just one subnet , namely 192.168.0.1-254 There is only 1 network card. Is it much easier to put in a second network card or is it just as easy to configure the existing lan card as a dual IP?
Is it necessary to configure these 2 IP's ( whether they are via 2 lan cards or dual IP on single card ) to be on different subnets. i.e ETH0 192.168.0.1 and ETH1 192.168.1.1 or is ok to have something like ETH0 192.168.0.1 and ETH1 192.168.0.254 ( where ETH0 is the one facing the LAN and ETH1 points to the modem router / switch i.e The Internet ) Where specifically do I save the Iptables rule configuration file and what must I call it ?

I have a problem with compiling of mod_ruby-1.3.0 After a succesfull configure i get a error in the make, it say "make: *** [apachelib.o] error 1" . I followed the Perfect Server Setup form HowToForge using the CentOS 5.2 dist because it said it ran ISPconfig3 right out of the box on their site. (by the way, its VERY difficult finding 5.2 i dont know why)
Everything went fine until I had to run yum update, then I keep getting messages that it can't connect to the repositories.
I dont know if it's an issue of my nic not functioniing, or if there is something wrong with my network settings.
1) how can i verify that the nic is working? (using lspci it's listed and has [tulip] after it)
2) do i need to change the repos url?
