Due to this thread -> [URL] we discovered that my Fedora runs rc kernel. After several tries to update to stable one, no result came. I need your guidance to update my system.
What I tried: yum update yum update kernel yum clean all
The result is the message: [root@dimitris ~]# yum update kernel Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit Setting up Update Process No Packages marked for Update
Can I update to PAE kernel? This question is for i686 cause it cannot recognize all ram (4GB total, 3.2GB available). I run x86_x64 but I have this question...
I've been attempting to, over the past few days, go through the LAMP setup. I already have Apache installed, as well as PHP. However, whenever I attempt to upgrade from PHP from version 5.1.6 to 5.3.6 using "yum upgrade php" I get the message "No Packages marked for updates"..Now I know you're going to want my system info, so based upon my getinfo.sh:Information for general problems.

I did a clean install of 11.04 this morning. Upon logging in, Update Manager appeared, telling me there were 67 packages to upgrade. I obliged, and the update progress window appeared, as usual. At this point I realized it was not a convenient time to install the updates. No progress had yet been made; Update Manager had not downloaded anything, the progress bar had not moved, and the status was "waiting". I canceled the update and closed Update manager. However, upon running it again, it thinks that it successfully installed all the packages. In the "Ubuntu Software Center" Update history, it shows all those packages as having been updated with a timestamp of when I canceled the update. Apt-get and aptitude will not update the packages either. It seems like the packages have been marked as updated even though no update was installed. How can I rectify this problem and get the package managers to actually install the updates?
I'm using an old computer with Lenny for a few weeks. After updating OpenOffice last night from backports to 3.2 and doing an update this morning, there is a long list of packages and libraries in the auto removable section of Synaptic that I suspect or am absolutelt certain that I don't want to remove (Rhytmbox, for example).
going through synaptic and noticed that a ton of packages are marked as being manually installed when they most definitly did NOT installed them, is there a command i can use to reset all the dependencies?
I am trying to update all the packages for 5.4 without going to 5.5, I believe I saw at one point instructions on how to do this, where I could in effect cap the version to stay on 5.4. Doing 'yum update' takes me to 5.5.
E: Type 'ain' is not known on line 3 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gnome3-team-gnome3-natty.listE: The list of sources could not be read. i get this error when i try to update my packages, anybody know a fix?
I have checked the yum.log file and the last time an update was performed was Jan 6, 2011. I am the only person who administers this server and I do it remotely via SSH. No one has GUI access to this. At a minimum, the kernel version is older than the latest release. This is the first time since I brought this server online in 2009 that a monthly yum update didn't produce at least a dozen package updates. I've tried disabling the Priorities plugin (as well as rearranging priorities) and I get the same result: no updates available. For the record, I did spend quite a bit of time Googling this problem and doing a forum search here. I found nothing applicable to my particular situation. Here's the output of yum update:
[root@copeland2 log]# yum update Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, priorities Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile * addons: mirror.5ninesolutions.com * base: mirrors.easynews.com * extras: mirrors.usc.edu * rpmforge: ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de * updates: centos.mirror.facebook.net 0 packages excluded due to repository priority protections Setting up Update Process No Packages marked for Update

I have Centos 5. I enabled the EL repos so I could upgrade the php to the latest, and now there are upgrades that yum is not letting me get. I have a Virtualmin VPN plugin that needs Virtualmin to be updated to 5.10, but it seems when I updated PHP with the EL repos Yum is now reducing my available packages. Here are some outputs. with some things removed for length.
A few weeks ago, i installed Ubuntu Desktop 10.10. I installed several of my previously used programs and am now having trouble with the update manager. It refuses to download updates; insisting that it does not trust the source. The details in the error message indicate that the problem is with a package for Banshee Media Player. I am posting a link for a video I made that displays this problem. [URL]
On two Centos5 servers, yum gives a segmentation fault error when trying 'yum update' or 'yum check-update' after running 'yum clean' :
[Code]....
The error is the same for the other computer except while attempting to update the rpmforge repository. Nothing has really changed on the servers in some time and 'yum update' worked fine on each yesterday and I have no idea why they would both suddenly fail!
I have a error when i want to update my system via YUMI execute the next command.sh@ yum -y updateYou could try using --skip-broken to work around the problemYou could try running:package-cleanup --problems package-cleanup --dupes rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigestThe program package-cleanup is found in the yum-utils package.
I'm trying to update my Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10... But I get this error message:pkgProblemResolver:Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages
I tried to disable all the repositories, and also "sudo apt-get -f"... But still having this error message...
I have installed CENTOS 5 yesterday.uname -aLinux germany.site 2.6.18-164.11.1.el5xen #1 SMP Wed Jan 20 08:53:10 EST 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux uname -r2.6.18-164.11.1.el5xenBut when installing Oracleasm and OCFS2 packages I get the following errorrpm -ivh oracleasm-2.6.18-164.el5xen-2.0.5-1.el5.i686.rpmwarning: oracleasm-2.6.18-164.el5xen-2.0.5-1.el5.i686.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature : NO KEY, key id 1e5e0159error : Failed Dependencies : kernel-xen = 2.6.18-164.el5 is needed by oracleasm-2.6.18-164.el5xen-2.0.5-1.el5.i686While installing OCFS2 I get the same error.

But I have already installed this kernel-xen package.rpm -q kernel-xenkernel-xen-2.6.18-164.el5.plusHow to resolve this problem ? I needed these ocfs2 and oracleasm for some oracle features.
I recently tried a "yum update" and had some errors. By a process of elimination I have isolated the problem to the recent "file packages" release. Here is the error:
I followed the Perfect Server Setup form HowToForge using the CentOS 5.2 dist because it said it ran ISPconfig3 right out of the box on their site. (by the way, its VERY difficult finding 5.2 i dont know why)
Everything went fine until I had to run yum update, then I keep getting messages that it can't connect to the repositories.
I dont know if it's an issue of my nic not functioniing, or if there is something wrong with my network settings.
1) how can i verify that the nic is working? (using lspci it's listed and has [tulip] after it)
I've been having problems installing httpd (in that it cannot be found when I do a Yum search). I get this error when running yum: Bad id for repo: CentOS5 base, byte = 7 Bad id for repo: CentOS5 updates, byte = 7
OS: Centos 5.6 The server is installed with Apache WebServer and an open source application called CiviCRM.Last few lines of yum update command executed as root.
