CentOS 5 Server :: Samba Not Allowing Logging From Remote Machine?
Jan 26, 2011
I have installed CentOS 5.5 along with the Samba package. I have it configured (i believe), but when I try to access a share, it is not accepting my UN/PW. I have copied the smb.conf file from a working computer over to this one, but it is still not accepting my login. Anyone know of any other files I should check?
I have moved a working smb.conf file to this new box, and both computers have the same UN/PW's

I don't know if this is possible... I want that only some of a Windows Domain(Samba) users can to logging in a machine. For example: The user Peter of the domain WORKSPACE can connect to the PC1, but the user Charly of the domain WORKSPACE can not connect to the PC1. How I can implement this?

I've installed CentOS 5.3 on a machine, and I need a Samba version 3.2 or higher. Since 3.4 is out, I thought I'd grab that. But, "yum list|grep samba" gives me only version 3.0.33. Is there a package of Samba I can grab that will upgrade the 3.0 installation so that I don't have two laying around? If not and I need to compile from source, do you have any suggestions for what arguments I should give configure? I'm not used to Linux coming from the BSD world

Samba 3.5 Centos 5.5
I am trying to attempt to set up a samba ldap PDC server.
When I try and connect a computer to the network I get error 'Username could not be found'
I have included smbldap.conf ##smbldap.conf
slapd.conf ##slapd.conf
the smb.conf ##smb.conf
the results of slapcat ##slapcat
the eriror log for log.roor ##log.root
The error I marked as interesting ##interesting , shows that it can't create the user or maybe something else. But up until that time there didn't seem to be a problem.

I am trying to set up samba in my CentOS virtual machine that is running on a Windows 7 host. I have found a tutorial in the How-Tos on this site but I'm not sure if they are exact and I'm paranoid about messing something up. The link to the tutorial is below. Is there anything that I should do different or anything that I should be aware of? Also, once this is set up, how do I transfer files between the two machines?

I want to login to my company's server (remote) from my room. I have the server address, so I use this command to login :
Code:
#ssh root@X.X.X.X
It waits for a very long time and then returns with error connection timed out port 22.
I configured these settings in the remote server :
Code:
#/etc/init.d/iptables stop
Then I connect via ssh from my home but still the same error.
Then in the config file /etc/ssh/sshd_config, I uncomment the line : ListenAddress 0.0.0.0
I connect via ssh again from home but still the same error.
The connection is not denied in hosts.deny and hosts.allow.
How do I get the connection up and running?

I am having problems logging into my SME Linux server from a new Windows 7 machine. It sees the server on the network, but does not seem to be passing the windows login through to the Linux server (which is how all of the XP machines log in). When I try to log in using a valid username and password it goes nowhere and just says it is an invalid username and/or password. I had a Vista machine that could log into this Linux server so I do not think the Samba version is the problem.

i am learning about the ability to utilize the rsyslog ability to be a server for the logging info from other machines. i have did it successfully, and i get logs from other machines through the network, but i don't know where i can set the server for my desire act on these logs that come from the network. i essence the question is: why the server put some logs at /var/log/messages, and others not ?

I wish to prevent the samba messages (mainly nmbd and winbindd) from appearing in the system log (/var/log/messages). I want to allow samba logging to the standard samba logfiles, but prevent the syslog getting clogged up by samba. I added syslog = 0 to smb.conf and reloaded the config but the messages were still appearing. I also tried the following (and restarted the syslog via /sbin/service syslog restart) # Suppress messages from samba.
nmbd.* /dev/null
smbd.* /dev/null
winbindd.* /dev/null
For interests sake the messages I'm getting are below (I'm not concerned about the messages themselves, I can chase them up at my leisure via the samba logs) Mar 18 09:58:29 SERVER nmbd[3808]: query_name_response: Multiple (2) responses received for a query on subnet xx.yy.z.zz for name DOMAIN<1d>. Mar 18 09:58:29 SERVER nmbd[3808]: This response was from IP xx.yy.z.zz, reporting an IP address of xx.yy.z.zz.

I have Linux installed on one machine with samba running and a second machine running XP. They are going through my router and I am using the same username/passwords for both machines and I have even gone to the point of allowing access to everyone for the share I created and the worgroup in samba is MSHOME just like my XP machine. When I view (or search) my workgroup computers my Linux machine shows up and so do the shares I created but when I try to open them I just get a message that permission is denied and I may not have permission to use this resource. I even tried setting access to the shared folder to 777 but still I can't open this share. Has anyone got any idea of why this is?

But I fully have my server and everything up, MySQL, PHP5, Apache2, Postfix, Courier, SQMail, can't remember what else atm.
I installed mailx and used the mail command to send an email to my external email address, worked just fine. sent it to another email, worked as well.
But the problem is, I do 'telnet localhost 25' to test it like they say, it connects. I run 'ehlo localhost' Nothing happens.
I've tried setting it up with Thunderbird on my home pc and it connects to the IMAP & POP servers just fine, but it cannot establish a connection with SMTP, I've tried changing the SMTP port to other ones, still no luck.
Oh BTW, I use Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron)

I have to rename a group of machines in my little samba domain (tbd backend) but there is an ugly bug that makes this impossible. have set 'rename user script' variable corectly, also checked all configurations. When i change computer name in my windows box, it shows an error saying something like "Error calling remote procedure"Looking on server side, username for the machine gets correctly changed in /usr/passwd, and also in samba database. But samba log says:

I am running a local webserver mainly for development. I have everything set up. The issue I currently have is that I cannot shut down the machine from the command line. I can issue the command but the machine remains on. I also cannot get to the desktop via VNC.The reason for this, is that there is no monitor attached so Ubuntu says that it is trying to run in Low Graphics Mode. I found this out as I plugged the monitor in to my server. So question is, how do I get around this? How can I set up Ubuntu to get past this, or do I need to install Ubuntu Server?

I have 2 servers running CentOS 5.4 Final, one is 32 bit and the other is x86_64.When I ssh to either server, the session will freeze after a while and I cannot type anything except I close the term. This has happened before, and I thougthat was caused by iptables' rulesBut now I turned off iptables and the problem remains.I tried tcpdump on my machine(client running OpenSUSE 11.2), and it shows that after the freezing, client will still sent ack message to the server. So I think this may be caused by the server.Note that I can ping the server smoothly.Does anybody meet this problem before

I'm trying to setup a kickstart installation and having some trouble with firewall settings. When you do a manual install it gives you the option on first boot to allow https, samba, and nfs4 in the firewall. I have as yet been unable to find the options for doing this in kickstart. Here is my current firewall line:
firewall --enabled --http --ftp --ssh --smtp --trust=eth0
I have tried just adding --https but it errors on me. Am I just missing the keywords to set these up? I have looked but i can't find keywords for any services except telnet that are not already included in my firewall line. Should i be trying to do this with iptables in post rather than in the kickstart itself?
