My network become inactive but on GUI show that network active. When i ping out the network, is response times out. I need inactive the network and active back but sometime also fail reactive it. What main problem. CentOS running on vmware
View 1 RepliesI have 2 server behind the netgear router on my network . win2k3 and CentOS development server, I have port forarded 80 to win2k3 server which i can access over the internet and is accessable. However I can SSH CentOS machine and portforwarded 8080 and 82 for web access, I can't access via any of the port, browsers says UNABLE TO CONNECT.. there is no firewall in CentOS machine.

situation:
1 server with centos 5.4 running 1 client with centos 5.4 - gnome running thin ethernet network
on my client desktop i have a link to a shared folder on the server. this works fine.
to the problem: after working with this (using the link and seeing it working) i shutted down the server from my client (in a terminal screen, using ssh) the terminal screen signalled the server going down and the connection ended. the linked folder on the client desktop changed its icon fine.
after that i clicked on the changed icon (of the link that was not a working link any more) and the client machine froze.... no reaction any more. i could only end the session by >ctrl-alt-f#< , log in and shutdown.
Q: is it normal Centos is that angry when you click such a link?
I just installed F15 on a laptop that previous had F12 working well. During install, it finds my wireless card and seems to set it up fine. The full install ran with the wireless active without any problem that I could see. Now, when I start up, I see Network Manager tells me that the wlan is active, but it doesn't show my specific network. If I click on the NM tray icon and open up the panel, my network is shown but it is not "active".
I can double click on it and it will become active - shows the little globe next to the antenna. This works fine for about 2 web pages worth and then FireFox 4 stops being able to find web pages. If I go back to the panel, double click on my wireless network (which looks like it is active already), and reactivate it, I can get the page I was looking for in FireFox, but within a couple of minutes it will stop.
Likewise with yum, while I'm installing software, I'll occasionally get errors like this:
[URL]: [Errno 14] curl#6 - "Couldn't resolve host"
If I reactivate my wireless network in the NM panel, it continues fine. Other computers/phones connected to this network seem to work fine. Is NM known to be problematic in F15?
When I reboot my CenOS, my nic does not. If I run eht0, I get the following:

I have noticed that after few days of ideal system it will stop its network interface. To resolve this I have to login to the machine it self and then issue
# service network start
Is this a feature. If this is not a feature then what is this. As an workaround I am thinking of adding service network restart in cron tab for everyday in night when I am not using it.
I have read in the release notes that there is no SuSe Linux (SLES 10) support in Cent OS 5.x KVM or even for that matter in Xen.
Does that mean SUSE will not run at all or will there be nobody to support me? A complete YOYO scenario!

I happen to know a little bit of programming so I got assigned to look after this server box. I'm still in the process of learning basic linux using VMware at home at themoment.There are few things requested from me that are really beyond my knowledge at this time and I really need some advise or pointer to get started.Current set up- We have 2 servers. A windows server 2008 and a Cent OS. They don't work together... They are only acting like a central "hard drives" so to speak.

We boot into Windows 7 for projects stored on windows server, and boot into Fedora for projects stored on Cent OS.What I was asked to do- Centralize user accounts. My boss wants both windows and fedora to log in using the same account. What would be the best approach to do this? We want the accounts to be managed via the Cent OS box. Permission to access hard drives on the server should be controlled as well.- Maximize Rsync. This one is really beyond my knowledge. The Rsync process from our clients sometimes doesn't go through. They want to make sure the process works as smooth as possible.

Sometimes, when resuming from suspend, the network adapter is down (that is, the network does not work and the light of the network adapter is off). Restarting the network service doesn't work, because I think that the system forgot about the hardware, and probably the driver should be reloaded.Does anyone knows how to do that?(ps. /etc/init.d/networking restart does not work, because the hardware driver is not being recognized anymore).
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had been manually starting my wireless network with "sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid "my wireless router id". The network would start and work flawlessly for weeks at a time. I can't ask my wife to find the essid in the terminal and then start wireless manually when I'm not here. She hates and fears the terminal. So I downloaded gnome network manager for a point and click interface on gnome panel.The network would start fine but shut down after anywhere from one to six hours. It would then refuse to restart manually or otherwise. I completely uninstalled network manager and tried wicd instead. The same basic problem is happening. The network will restart if I reboot the computer. My system:
Desktop computer acting as proxy server for the internet. Internet connection is by a dial up modem. This computer uses a wireless pci card connected to a dedicated hub. This is for file sharing via nfs. The OS is ubuntu 9.10. My wife's computer sharing the internet using a proxy to my computer. File sharing via nfs and a wireless card. Also running ubuntu 9.10. This same basic system worked flawlessly under Ubuntu Hardy.My desktop was updated recently with new hardware which created the need to move to Ubuntu Karmic. Some hardware was too new for hardy to deal with.
If I restart the network service, not all interfaces come back up. Is this expected behaviour or does something need a kick?

But, when I restart the network service this IPv6 address is gone. How could I make it as a permanent IPv6 address( that should be edited or deleted when I want but not when I only restart the network)to my interface?
I have b43 wireless. In network Configuration on system->administration the interface it appears as inactive it appers in hardware also as b43 associated to wlan0 but i cannot have access to any wireless network. What i have to do to put this b43 to work.

I removed the broadcom-wl package and installed the autoen package from DangerMouse. After rebooting wireless works but I still get the same errors when I give the command:

I had to disable encryption on the router to connect, but I guess that's a compromise I'll have to make right now. I will work on that some more after I get these error messages straightened out:

Note that wireless does seem to be working (though without encryption) despite the error messages. And I got these same error messages with the Broadcom driver but I could not get wireless working.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have v 10.10 and I had to hook up with ethernet cord to download and activate both broadcom b43 and sta drivers. Once they were both downloaded and activated my wireless worked fine. (Also I have an hp mini 210-1000 if that helps.) After unplugging my laptop and using it, if it dies or if things are running really funky and it seems like it could use a restart, or on one of the many occasions where I am not going to be using it for a few days and just shut it down, as soon as I start it back up.
I find that sta driver still says activated under system - admin - additional drivers, however the b43 now says inactive, and my wireless wont connect to any router, even though it can detect them, until I connect with the ethernet cord and redo the whole driver activation for both, and then restart. This happens every time, and although I don't often take my laptop out of my room, my router is away from my desk, so this is a major inconvenience when i have work to do, or if I were to ever take it out somewhere with me.

Tried to activate and it states Activating network device pan0, please wait... determining IP information for pan0.... A few minutes pass by then. It indicates it failed. Cannot activate network device pan0! I have disabled the Controlled by NetworkManger and enabled the Activate device when computer starts.
