CentOS 5 :: Installing From An LiveCD?

Aug 12, 2010

In my CentOS Bible, written by Timothy and Christopher it refers to a one button that you can install CentOS with one button from the LiveCD, or from CentOS running from the CD and install to the hard drive? I pressed everything and nada, as most everything does not function it seems. What am I missing that may go along with preparing these Dell 2650's?

CentOS 5 :: Create A CentOS Based LiveCD That Mounts A NFS Share And Executes One Script?

Aug 14, 2009

I'm trying to create a CentOS based liveCD that mounts a NFS share and executes one script there. The NFS never mounts altough while logged I can mount it with the very same command that I use in the KS.

In the %post I have :

%post --log=/tmp/post.log --erroronfail
mkdir /mnt/nfs
mount -o nolock 10.23.1.1:/csc/RemoteHome /mnt/nfs

I added the --log in order to debug, but nothing is written in /tmp/post.log. I tried redirection on the mount command with >> /tmp/debug.log but this is not written. Maybe during the post sequence /tmp is RO ? Anyway, I tried with ifup lo, service portmap start in the %post, but doesnt change (I even have a service : command not found in the live cd creator output).

Here is the remainder of the KS :
lang en_US.UTF-8
keyboard us
timezone US/Eastern

Ubuntu :: Installing Over Network From LiveCD?

Mar 14, 2010

I've asked this in another forum, but I'm not sure I phrased it very well. I have a desktop and a "server" at the house. The "server" is sitting across the room, with no keyboard or mouse. If I were to boot the server from a LiveCD, could I then get in with SSH and kick off the setup remotely? I'm getting "Connection refused" when trying to ssh in, so I'm guessing that the service is probably not turned on.

I checked into Reconstructor, and I think that may be the way to go, if I can figure out what I need to do. I'm thinking all I need to do is install an SSH key and start the service, then I can get into it from my desktop and proceed with the install.

Is this possible to do? Or is there a better way? I know I could lug the keyboard, mouse and monitor over to the other machine to do it, but that would mean that I couldn't do anything on my desktop (since that's where the keyboard, etc. would come from).

Ubuntu Installation :: Re-Installing Grub From LiveCD?

Jan 20, 2010

I was thinking of trying to install Window XP in a dual boot fashion but with the purpose of trying to configure wine to use it as it base instead of its normal setup. Only thing is Ubuntu is the sole controller of my laptop here atm and as you know installing XP will remove grub as boot controller. And while I know about SuperGrub I was wondering how, if possible,do I re-install grub from Karmic's LiveCD?

General :: Installing Additional Files From Ubuntu 10.04 LiveCD?

May 31, 2010

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 from the LiveCD--smooth install, OS looks great-elegant.Now, since I have to use dial-up, I need to install additional files from the LiveCD that aren't installed by default:

[LiveCD]:poolmainwwvdial wvdial_1.60.3_i386.deb
...and
[LiveCD]:poolmainwwvstreams [3 sw packages]

How do I get these files from the CD, and make them run on the Ubuntu installation? I've checked in the UI, and see various terms I don't yet understand. Do I extract the packages? Or do I open a pgm in Ubuntu, in which I specify the path to the files on the CD?

I'm going to use an external USRobotics 5637 USB modem that is supposed to work in Linux; just need to configure Ubuntu for this. I have the ISP DNS server numbers and modem is ready. I've seen online info, but I'm stuck at this very basic step.

General :: CentOS Not Booting From LiveCD?

Jun 21, 2011

I downloaded the CentOS-5.6-i386-LiveCD.iso and burn it on a CD, as usual. When booting, it does the automatic boot but then crashes, with "Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 354800 (and more)". I am having the same problem with making a boot-able USB. I am not exactly sure what is wrong, I see two folders on the cd LiveOS and isolinux. I'm not sure if it is suppose to be like this, if the burning process when ok. I'm trying to set up a desktop on a pc (with AMD Sempron processor). This is very strange, I ruled out that it couldn't have been my computer (because my Fedora boot disk booted fine), my cd (because it is new and an entirely different brand), or the .iso (because I tested it in VirtualBox, which it booted perfectly).

Files in LiveOS folder:
livecd-iso-to-disk

squashfs.img
TRANS.TBL

CentOS 5 :: Unable To Install From LiveCD - Release2.iso

Jul 8, 2010

This might sound like a really daft question but how the hell do I install CentOS 5.5? I cant find any guide how to install the dam thing. I ve downloaded "CentOS-5.5-i386-LiveCD-Release2.iso" & burnt this to a CD. I then booted my server form this CD. I see a very nice colourful screen which says "Automatic Boot in 10 seconds". After 10 seconds nothing happens. I then rebooted the server & this time I hit the enter key, I now see a menu with the following options:

Boot
Boot (text mode)
Network Instillation
Memory Test
Boot form local drive

If I try the "Boot" or "Boot (text mode)" options nothing happens. Selecting the Network Instillation appears to boot the install I then see a blue & red screen asking me to choose a language I picked English hit OK selected UK as the keyboard type hit OK Installation ethod...... Ive chose Local CDROM but the message says: The CentOS cd was not found in any of your CD drives.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Wireless Works On LiveCD But Not When Installed

May 23, 2010

I've been using Linux for about 2 years now, mostly Ubuntu & derivatives, but I've also tried Fedora, Mandriva, and others. I wanted to give CentOS a try because I'm very interested in going for a Linux+ or similar certification, and so I'm looking to start learning how to configure & maintain Linux servers and so on. I have a friend who's a Linux sysadmin, and he recommended CentOS as a good learning tool.

Anyway, I've only got a wireless connection in my office at home (the actual cable modem is downstairs) so I intentionally chose a wireless adapter that would work with Linux -- it has a Realtek RLT8187 chip, for which there is support built into the kernel, or so I've read. It has worked out of the box in just about every distro I've tried, and indeed it worked OOTB when I tried out the CentOS 5.5 live CD.

However, when I actually installed the CentOS to my hard drive it no longer worked -- I have only a greyed out option for a wired connection (presumably since my motherboard has an ethernet adapter, but there is no connection). Why the wireless would work in the live session but not after install? Is there a firmware file or something I need to track down? I did look on this page, but it doesn't mention anything about RTL8187.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Installing CentOS 5.4 X86_64 On Adaptec RAID 3405

Jan 13, 2010

My problem is that I'm trying to install CentOS 5.4 x86_64 DVD ISO on Supermicro X7SBI server with installed Adaptec RAID 3405 controller.

I created RAID 5 array and is working fine (adaptec status says Optimal) but I can't install CentOS to that array (1.5TB size).

Whenever I try to install with: linux dd

I'm asked for a driver, which I have downloaded from Adaptec site and extracted contents to USB drive (in installation found as /sba1) which has now a lot of IMG and some ISO files on it.

I try to load (I simplified names) RHEL5.img, CENTOS.img... with x64 names (one exact name: aacraid driverdisk-CentOS-x86_64.img) and I always get the error message: "No devices of the appropriate type were found on this driver disk"

This is going on for a week now and I can't find the right driver or something I'm doing wrong to get install done.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Installing CentOS 5.3 Using Custom ISO And Drive Disk?

Nov 10, 2009

I am having new hardware and IDE driver for that hardware as drive disk image (it8213_centos53.img). CentOS 5.3 installation is working fine with drive disk image at USB and CentOS 5.3 at DVD. Our application uses CentOS 5.3 and we build a custom kick-start ISO for installations. Using that ISO client is going to install on all hardware boxes.

Note while installing :
a) No network connection is avalible.
b) No USB isavalible.
c) No floppy is avalible.
d) Only single CD-ROM is avalible.

So, is it possible to build single custom kick-start CentOS 5.3 ISO which contains dirve disk image and entire installation will be done using that image. If so please let me know the steps to build it.
