SUSE / Novell :: How To Get MAKE Command - OpenSUSE 10.3
Jun 14, 2010I am using openSUSE 10.3 and the pc is DELL Optiplex 780. The network devices is not supported by openSUSE 10.3 but I may have found it's module. But I can't "MAKE INSTALL" it as my installation does not have MAKE command.
I have selected "Install All" during my installation. Linux version is 2.6.22.5-31-default.
What is the package name for the MAKE command? So that I can find it so that I can install it into my openSUSE 10.3?

Aug 23, 2010Just installed opensuse 11.2 (64-bit version) and I have a problem with the Mplayer browser plugin. Basically it comes up OK, I get the MPlayer plugin splash screen and controls exactly as expected, it downloads the media successfully (or at least looks like it does) but then doesn't play, it just reports "Stopped".
Mplayer itself works fine, it's just the browser that doesn't.

When i was done succesfully booting from the usb stick, and came back to my good old suse10.3 on my laptop, i found out that the system sound has suddenly stopped working. My sound is coming with my usb stick, but not with my native os.
SUSE / Novell :: 11.3 DVD Installation From Pendrive Not Working?
Aug 2, 2010I'm having issue with trying to put the 11.3 DVD iso to a USB pendrive...I've verified the ISO md5sum matches, formatted the pendrive to FAT32, unmounted and finally done:
# isohybrid openSUSE-11.3-DVD-x86_64.iso
# dd if=/path/to/iso/openSUSE-11.3-DVD-x86_64.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M;sync
Everything appears to work fine, but once I try to boot I geterror saying no installation CD/DVD is not found and is asking for software installation repository, so I select the media as hard drive since if I select cd/dvd drive, the messag "no repository found"...then I select the USB drive (sdc1 4.2GB, iso9660, openSUSE-DVD) then it asks for "enter the source directory"...I'm not certain what to enter there, so I just point to the root directory "/" and installation continues...followed by "no new driver updates found"....so GUI starts up again...it loads kernel modules, to confirm "usb-storage"...then a message "the partitioning on disk /dev/sdc is not readable by the portioning tool parted,...." I click OK...finally I get stuck on

Jul 6, 2010I have a use case where in I am trying to build a yacc program using bison. When I run this on SLES 9, I get errors. But the same works for me fine on a SLES 10 system.
The versions of bison, glibc are different. Hence I moved the rpms from SLES 10 machine to SLES 9 and did a rpm2cpio of these 2 to a temporary folder and did a export of LD_LIBRARY_PATH. When I try to run the program ( ./bison) I am getting a segmentation fault. I have the following questions :
1) IS the scenario what I am trying to do - using a newer version of libc( from sles 10) to sles 9 supported ?

Nov 16, 2009I am currently running openSUSE 11.2, but I do not like the KDE4 interface. I downgraded everything back to KDE3, but kept the KDE4 artwork. The NetworkManager program under KDE4 works fine and can connect to my home wireless network. However, The previous of NM cannot cannot connect to any wireless network.
I find it kind of odd, since KNetworkManager is just a frontend to the real NM, with was not actually changed when I downgraded.

I'm afraid this is not enough, because the wlan led is not lighting. Every extra button works well such as volume buttons, but the wlan button does not working, so i can't switch on the wlan.

May 14, 2010i hav a system which is never connected to internet. I had installed opensuse 11.1 from dvd.But the media files r not working. I had installed gstreamer all sets. And tried to install codecs using a .ypm file i downloaded from the opensuse server but not working without internet. I can download any files in other system and copy it to my system.

Jul 19, 2010New Suse 11.3 installation with Gnome desktop. Added K3B using Yast2, and after completing the install of K3B, there is no icon for K3B! Instead there is an "X" and the text for K3B in it.From the main menu -> more applications -> multimedia, is where the K3B icon is.Yast2 is supposed to install any dependencies needed or warn if it can not find any missing dependencies. What is missing, or is it a permission problem? All the other application icons seem fine.

Aug 12, 2010I recently bought a IOgear USB bluetooth adapter and a Sony DRBT101/BLK bluetooth headphones to use with my computer.Whenever I try to make a call using these headphones with skype, I can speak for say 10 seconds and then the headset disconnects completely from the system. I then have to reconnect the headset by switching it off and on. I do not have this problem listening to music using A2DP. It works fine with my mobile phone.When I change the profile to Telephony Duplex (HSP/HFP), it shows up as hands free, I thought it should be headset in blueman manager. My friend uses Plantronics headset with is Dell laptop with built in bluetooth and he says his comes up as headset not hands free. Could this be causing the problem?

Nov 19, 2010to get flash 10 working. I just decided to update to 11.3. Bought a 8.0GB USB stick to copy files to. USB DISK icon on visible on Desktop. mounted on /media/USB DISK Clicking on device properties it is read only. I can change permissions but that is only temporary. Looking under my computer it is formated as vfat device name is /dev/sdb
I can't copy any files to it. Can't see in terminal even being root as well. Almost started the Partitioner in Yast but didn't want to accidently crash the system. That WOULD be my luck Can't find a way to format it via GUI interface. Can I use something like fdisk in terminal. I guess I need to format it as ext3.

May 17, 2010I am trying to connect to my network. I am dual-booting with windows 7 ultimate and that connects just fine. When I plug in my ethernet cable to the LAN adapter of the motherboard nothing happens. In the network manager it doesn't even acknowledge something has been connected (ie no eth0 or anything). I'm guessing that I don'tave a driver for it installed under linux. The adapter is the Marvell Yukon 8059 (88E8059 I think)
