Fedora :: Configure A HP DeskJet 812C On Local Netowrk?
Dec 31, 2010
I've installed F14 [32 bit] and trying to configure a HP DeskJet 812C on my local netowrk[lpd://192.168.1.35/PASSTHRU] However, the "New Printer" wizard calls KPackageKit that fails and reports, "Could not find printer driver in any configured software source". It is just a dead end!

Can't install a HP Deskjet F4140 in FC13.
I have installed;
1. All Cups rpm's
2. Gutenprint-cups
3. All the hplip rpms
4. hpijs
And I still can't get the HP Deskjet F4140 to show up in Selection Window. I have even run HP-Setup and it can't install the F4140 . HP-Setup can see the F4140 is on USB port but can't install it.
I went to the HP website and it says the printer is Supported in the hplip drivers

I have recently acquired me a HP all-in-one printer model HP Deskjet F2483. The printer works fine but am having issues getting the scanner to work. Following instructions I found to Google, this is what my shell looks like:
Code:
sh-4.0$ sane-find-scanner
# sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
# result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
# scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.
# No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
# you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

I have an old, but still usable, HP Deskjet Plus inkjet printer that I have connected to the parallel port of my Fedora 13 box. I can (apparently) configure the printer using the usual print configuration tools, and have selected the recommend foomatic driver (HP DeskJet Plus Foomatic/pcl3 (recommended)) - but when I try to print the test page the job gets queued and nothing else happens. The jobs simply show as pending in the printer queue.
Current uri is parallel:/dev/lp0.
As a side note, my Epson printer on the USB port works fine, but it's using CUPS + Gutenprint v5.2.6 Simplified. Should I be trying something with a different (e.g. CUPS) driver, or a different way of specifying the foomatic driver, or what?

It's been awhile since I last used my printer in F12. There have been a lot of updates via yum done since whenever that last time was so I don't know precisely which update and when broke things. Attempting to use it today was a no go. It would appear to be a 'udev' issue according to last message logged into /var/log/messages.
My wife's Windows computer is connected to same printer via a parallel cable and it works fine for her so it's not a hardware failure.Consider this solved. Reason for printer failure: Major OP error. The solution was actually rather simple: sudo service cups start

I can't get the scanner to work. I get this:
[pedroski@fangshan ~]$ scanimage -L
device `v4l:/dev/video0' is a Noname USB2.0 1.3M UVC WebCam virtual device
device `hpaio:/usb/Deskjet_1050_J410_series?serial=CN0CN3H3CZ05HW' is a Hewlett-Packard Deskjet_1050_J410_series all-in-one
and this
[pedroski@fangshan ~]$ scanimage -d hpaio:/usb/Deskjet_1050_J410_series?serial=CN0CN3H3CZ05HW -T
scanimage: open of device hpaio:/usb/Deskjet_1050_J410_series?serial=CN0CN3H3CZ05HW failed: Device busy.
Fedora came with 'Simple Scan' That also returns 'device busy'. Can this scanner work under Fedora? I have tried turning it off, then on. I have rebooted. I have hpijs and hplip installed also hplip-gui. I have put myself in the group lp.

I had set up a newly purchased HP F4488 using HPLIP, I installed it on my Fedora 10 desktop and it worked fine for the past 2 days. Suddenly, it is failing to print. The scanner works and the photocopier works. When a print job is initialized there is an error and the printer gets disabled.

Last week I successfully configured a local repository for CentOS. I did it because I'm teaching a course with this distro. I am also teaching another course with opensuse, sadly, I could not configure a local repository for opensuse. I thought this would be easier. Local internet connection is very slow, so I need to configure the local repository. I have searched for information on the novell site and find nothing.

The common wisdom seems to be to setup an SMTP server (say postfix) so that connections either coming from the same host or where the end delivery is local can do so without using any authentication mechanism.
This will for example allow fetchmail to deliver fetched mail locally on port 25 (without logging in) for any user.
However, what if I setup the SMTP server to force every incoming connection to be authenticated regardless if the end delivery is local or relayed and regardless where the connection comes from.
Is it possible to configure fetchmail to use a password when doing the local delivery?
(I haven't been able to find any such configuration options in fetchmail.)

I was wondering is there a way I can install/configure an application to /opt instead of /usr or /usr/local like many do by default? I am most interested in install .deb packages in this manner how ever I am willing to compiling things from source if need be.

I've recently been using amarok and liked it a lot. I unchecked the show system tray in configuration, restarted amarok and then checked it again. Now amarok crashes whenever I go into configuration or browse through local files. I have tried reinstalling and deleting the directory ~/.kde/share/apps but no use.

dammit... all that typing and I hit the wrong "submit" button. *sigh*
Ok, I have a couple of SMTP servers for our infrastructure. They are running Postfix. I have them configured so that specific email addresses such as support@mydomain.com and billing@mydomain.com all go to a new support server that I am building with osTicket. Lets call that server SUPP1.
SUPP1 runs sendmail from the default install of CentOS 5 i386. At this point everything runs great. New emails get added into the osTicket system via a pipe in sendmail. Here's where the problem comes in. In order to accept mail, sendmail has to have the domain listed in local-host-names and the addresses in virtusertable. That works just dandy. But in doing so, sendmail believes it is the destination SMTP server for "mydomain.com". That means that I can't send mail from that server back into my normal SMTP servers. So things like the LogWatch, cron jobs, etc can't send notifications. Is there a way to work around that? For sendmail to ignore local-host-names for outbound email or something?

I am bit lost with configuring my apache2 web server. From the book I am using it says for me to configure apache2 to support PHP I need to execute "./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache2 --enable-so". From what I can determine Apache2 is located in "/etc/init.d/apache2" folder. I used a Ubuntu 9.04 distro (I386 Server Ed.) to install the server. I added "Kubuntu-desktop" for viewing. Then performed web upgrade to Karmic 9.10. All went well !! Question is; Where do I execute a command to enable PHP support? Once again, the command is to look something like "./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache2 --enable-so"

I updated to the recent 9.10 version of Ubuntu and found that my printer no longer works. When trying to print, the printer just blinks and *occasionally* makes a noise and prints out a partial line of text or whatever. It's a USB connecting HP Deskjet D1420 that is not a network printer and does not need to be networked.

I have spent a few hours on this, trying various combinations of instructions. The nearest I got was when I followed the instructions from the HPLIP site, but it ended up with telling me some dependencies were not installed. I installed them using the Mintinstall tool, but still no go.
Before I spend any more time on this, I would like to know if there is a user out there who has got this particular printer to run on the Mint 7 distribution? If somebody has, then I know it is at least possible, and I will persevere!

We recent got this printer as the three others are old, hard to maintain, and don't work. However, there's been no end of trouble. We've had to initially install it under Windows, which is no trouble. Intending to put it to wireless use, I've hit a problem. The HP printer tool in Slackware 13.0 claims that CUPS either isn't installed (which it is) or isn't running (which it is)
So I kept it on USB and shared it, providing yet more trouble. Slackware again seems to have trouble with CUPS (using the Printing tool from GSB). Now, Ubuntu Jaunty, the other Linux on the network, can see this printer, but doesn't have a driver for it, meaning it can't use it.
What I'd like to do is switch it to wireless. I can do that, but I don't know what to install on the two Ubuntu PCs to get the HP printer tool, or if on Jaunty, it still needs to be given the drivers for it, and on Slackware, CUPS is the problem (Though may be solved with an install of something else before long)

I tried setting up my printer, HP Deskkjet D2660, using CUPS. I enabled the CUPS service and configure the printer through it. But when I try to test print, my printer wont print.
Now, i tried to look at the net for possible answer and somewhere, I read that my printer needs the newer version of hplip than the one included with the default slackware 13.0 install.
1. Do i really need to update hplip just to make my printer work? Do anyone uses the same printer model and make it work without updating the said package?
2. If i really have to update it, is there any Slackbuild script I can use to make the hplip-3.10.6.tar.gz into slackware package? I prefer creating package than installing using make.
