I am using the akmod nvidia driver and I have the option for "sync to vblank" checked, however when running minecraft my computer is still pulling 200+ fps and it's causing tearing like a beast.Is anyone else having this problem? I don't know if my drivers are corrupted, set up improperly, or if the driver is just broken.

I installed F11 from the DVD iso. The nouveau driver seemed to work and I could get both monitors working with xrandr.
Then I tried to install the nvidia drivers. I installed akmod-nvidia.
They didn't work. I got this in my /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

I Have just formatted to Fedora 14 64bit and installed kmod-nvidia akmod-nvidia and am experiencing visual lag. The lag did not occur before I installed the drivers, neither did it occur on Fedora 13 with drivers installed.
I have a priitty high spec pc with the nvidia 260 gtx.

I have not had this problem on this machine since the days of fedora 1. The problem is that there is not kmod-nvidia driver for the current kernel in the rpmfusion repo, nor akmod can build one at boot up. Looking at the log files, akmods spits this error message:

Got F15 installed on on old P4 box. Its got a Geforce4 MX4000 card. Rpmfusion has info on the driver (akmod-nvidia-96xx) but I can't find it on the repos.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running Fedora 13 x64 and updated the kernel to the latest version (2.6.34.7-56 to 2.6.34.7-61). I use the proprietary nvidia drivers (currently 260.19.12) so I had to compile the kernel module against the new kernel sources and reinstall the driver. The process was apparently successful, but when I try to start X nothing happens, it's as if the computer had been suspended, my monitor acts like it isn't receiving any input. I have full runlevel 3 access, and the system seems pretty much fine up to that point. Nvidia's own sanity tests which are built into the installer reported no problems with my driver.
View 14 Replies View RelatedFedora (2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64) I installed that update, during the installation process it said that it had to remove three packages, one of them was kmod nvidia for the old kernel (Fedora (2.6.33.8-149.fc13.x86_64))After the update finished installing the new kernel, I restarted the system and Nvidia did not load. (I assume because Update manager removed the old nvidia? But I also assumed that a new version would be installed automatically?)I received the following Boot messages:

I'm confused, if Update Manager removed kmod nvidia, then why does yum say it is installed? And why doesn't the new kernel update work with that version? Or should I install a driver version for that particular kernel? I've read while searching that I need to install a kmod-nvidia for that particual kernel version and that I should login to my previous kernel until that happens, is that the problem I'm having?
Why don't rpmfusion and fedoraproject release the kmod-nvidia and kernel updates at the same time to avoid problems such as this? Does anyone know how long does it usually take for rpmfusion to release the new kmod-nvidia driver for the latest kernel?
I had to have the Nvidia Driver build a module to my kernel. It goes through, says it was successful, but I an unable to start X and get this log:

Its an Nvidia 8200 integrated graphics card... Not sure if there is a wrong driver or the driver is in a different location then where Fedora is looking.
I used leighs post to install the nvidia driver for Fedora 12 and now plymouth does not work it uses the text theme. Right before it goes into the text theme I get this message:
"Unknown boot option `nouveau.modeset=0' : ignoring"
To use games and other intensive applications, but with the switch I completely lost control of the brightness for the monitor. Is their a way to configure that, through the terminal or external application. If not, is there an experimental 3d version of nouveau I could try. Help would be appreciated, everything else works great so far.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Fedora 10 installed. I've just made an update of my system. Things that were updated were a new kernel version with devel and also something with NVIDIA (which is my video card).
After restart of my system, compiz fusion no longer works.
I have a NVIDIA-Linux-x86-177.82-pkg1.run -file to manually install the NVIDIA-driver so the advanced features of Compiz can be utilized.
After install, the bootup screen tells me that loading the NVIDIA driver has failed. I also receive a WARNING-message.
I have set this up before (ie installed the drivers and had them working perfectly) but had to do a system wide re-install of fedora. Since this clean install, I've had non-stop grief with nVidia drivers. They have been downloaded and installed via yum, and on start-up nvidia.ko loads. But from with gnome I cant gain access to any 'special effects' (ie desktop effects wont enable).
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhat it does is, if you do something to change anything on the screen, for example, highlighting text, or switching from one tab/menu in an application to another. The screen doesn't show the change. The only way to SEE the change is to do something else to the screen, like grabbing and moving the application around, or scrolling the page of a website, etc. If you don't do that, you won't see what's really on the screen, but rather what WAS on the screen.
Another example:
*) say you have an application open with 3 tabs: tab1, tab2, and tab3.
*) Switch from tab1 to tab2 and you see no change on the screen.
*) Switch from tab2 to tab3 and you see tab 2 on the screen, NOT tab 3.
*) Switch from tab3 to tab 2 and you see tab3 on the screen, and NOT tab2.
Or, if you're typing in this box to make a post, and you hit ctrl+a to select all, you see no change. If you click in the box to deselect all, then it looks like you've selected all text still. The only way to see what's currently on the screen is to scroll the text box or page just a bit, or, if you're using an application, then you'd have to move it around on the screen a bit.
As i've said, the nVidia drivers are installed and working, as well as compiz, etc.

Also, i did BOTH the dracut thing, and the extra kernel paramter in the grub.conf. So, nouveau is blacklisted. Oddly enough though, i do NOT have this problem when using the nouveau driver...
Also, fwiw, i think that i should mention that i'm not using the "Desktop Settings > Enable Desktop Effects" method, because i always seem to have problems with getting certain features to work, like the background for the cube skydome, etc. How i do it is that i install a package called compiz-manager, and i have it set to run at session start. This makes all of the compiz features work fine. One thing that i've noticed though, is that on my other workstation, i haven't set that up yet, and it seems that is is NOT having the same issue. While compiz-manager was running, i tried to use the "desktop settings" method, and it crapped out and reverted back to the old school desktop. I then tried it again, and it reloaded compiz, and there is no screen update issues now. So it seems that you have to have both of them running in order to get all of the compiz options to work, and not have the screen refresh issue?

Well, turns out it should not have been recommended. I had restarted and all I got was a low res ubuntu logo and a boot right into a full screen terminal. Tried startx and got a no screens found, I look online for about an hour last night and decided to just reinstall, which takes a couple hours when installing all the packages.
I have done more research today and found to install the latest linux x64 driver from nVidias website, which I did, but it does not run. I followed some more instructions and it said to do a �sudo chmod +x <file>� which I did, and it starts to open and I get �You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before installing.�
I�m starting to get a little frustrated here, guess I�m just used to a lot of the ease of windows and assumed that something like installing a graphics card driver would be easy.
I have an old geforce 6200 AGP card and I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 Lucid, now my video driver won't stay loaded.It says it is loaded in the hardware drivers, but no advanced graphics work, until I go into System/appearance and click extra visual effects. Then it looks for drivers and asks to keep these, I say yes and can activate Compiz effects and all is well. Until I reboot and have to start over
View 9 Replies View Relatedon my old fx 5200 nvidia card, I installed the 173 driver and now when I log in to Default Ubuntu desktop with 3d enabled, like my screen will flash on and off like the panel and my awn dock turns white and then returns to desktop and repeats. You can only see the wallpaper and thats it. Useless! My desktop is virtually useless because I can't even use it. Gonna have to reinstall Ubuntu for the 5th time!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just installed Maverick on my HP tx1000. Jockey offered me two drivers for my NVidia Go 6150. I tried the recommended one--and it seemed to be working. It had a green light next to it in Jockey, Compiz worked, etc. Then I rebooted.
Except it didn't reboot--the disk thrashed for a while, and then I was met with a black screen. I tried recovery mode and got a bash prompt...which crashed when I ran `startx'. Then I tried Failsafe X, which did work. After some experimentation, I realized it was the Nvidia driver at fault, so I tried the not-recommended one, which didn't work, and now I've disabled both of them. But isn't there a proper driver for me to use? IIRC, I was using a restricted one with Lucid, and it was working all right.
Fun fact: The day before I installed Maverick, Windows 7 randomly decided to not boot all the way. It would show the splash screen, and then hang with a black screen too. But it works in Safe Mode. And had been working fine for a while beforehand. There must be demons in my graphics card.
I am experiencing the following issue. After enabling SLI and PhysX in windows vista, my dual boot fedora 10 does not see the NVIDIA driver.
Doing: cat /proc/drivers/nvidia/0 I get? in the VGA bios for both cards.
I disabled both SLI and PhysX in vista, but the problem persists. I powerdown and unplugged the rig for several hours without results.
Here are my specs:
CPU: Intel Q9300
Board: MSI P7N Diamond
CARD0: EVGA Gforce 8800 GTS
CARD1: EVGA Gforce 8800 GTS
RAM : 4 Gbytes OCZ gold PC6400 (4 x 1 Gbytes)
PSU : Thermaltake SLI ready 850 W
It is important to mention that initially Fedora did see the cards and I was able to set up a dual monitor system. It right was after I enable SLI and PhysX and re-booting into Linux that the problem showed up.
I have seen this issue before in another machine with an ASUS board, but not until today I associated with the SLI setup. My guess is that there has to be something that the driver is enabling in the cards that messes up the interface between the nvidia.ko module and the kernel, but I don't know what may fix it. I need this system for some numerical calculations.
I've been having big problems getting 9.10 to work with a Geforce4 MX-4000 card. I know it is not a hardware problem because I've got a dual boot win xp/9.10 setup and the video card works very well under win xp. The monitor is a Samsung P2250. The issue is that the highest resolution available after installing the recommended nvidia 96 driver is 800x600, the same as that before the driver was installed. This is very frustrating because the monitor requires 1920x1080 I'm not sure whether the driver is at fault or the xorg.conf settings.
Should I try installing the nvidia site drivers? I've checked out several forum threads on xorg.conf settings but I'm really not sure how to go on this. What I need is an entry level guide to setting up xorg.conf. The manual here is not that user friendly.
Pretty self explanatory, I can't get the NVidia driver to work with my laptop's 310M. And yes I have tried both steps in .64&postcount=9, but to no avail. The two error messges I'm seeing are "(EE) No devices detected." and "Fatal server error: no screens found".

i just upgraded to the latest nvidia 8 series driver, i downloaded from the nvidia site. After i installed the driver, i reboot and it booted into the console login screen with no GUI. how do i get back into the GUI.

I am now on the nvidia-173 driver as that one seems to be working the best. Even the nvidia-settings is having trouble and crashes when I try to look at the OPENGL/GLX information.I have found many instances of jockey showing that the driver is "active but not in use" which is what I am seeing. OK, the problem is i was prompted to install some proprietary drivers and so i did but thats when the problems started. After reboot i couldn't get the GUI or gdm (not sure what to refer it to) to work. It goes directly to a terminal screen every time so i actually reinstalled Ubuntu and tried installing the drivers all different ways but no luck. i also can get into recovery mode and do low graphics. the driver version im trying to get working is nvidia 260.19.12. my graphics card is a geforce 7 series cant remember the number i have a 32bit processor.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04, and I noticed that the nvidia driver are not working all well as they did before.
Although I get the nvidia logo when X starts, the 3d part does not work well. For example using mplayer -vo gl does not work anymore. When I type glxinfo I get the x error of failed request badwindow message. More anonyingly flash will crash when going to fullscreen.
The 2d part of the drivers seem fine because xvinfo and -vo xv works fine.
I used Gefoce9400GT , 190.53 nvidia driver, configuring Mulitiple X screen both CRT and TV, work fine if CRT and TV connected to card, but I hope foce TV-out output signal, means that if not connected to TV, the SVIDEO can output signal. Because the line too far, cannot detect TV connection, so I think foce output TV-out signal. I used Option "ConnectedMonitor" "CRT, TV". Can force found 2 display device, have 2 screen ok, but not display at TV if not connected TV. I do not understand why the TV has been forced output signal does not display images, they can be connected to the TV show?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAbout a month ago, I decided to go deeper in my Linux knowledge. I've been reading a lot and found out that Arch linux would be my learning distro. As I was installing Arch, it was a pain at first but I really learned a lot which I would never ever learn with Mint. Now I decided to take a step further is which "compiling your own kernel".
MY PROBLEM:
Everything was smooth in my Arch for a 2 weeks until I decided to compile my own kernel. I currently have a Nvidia GTX 460 1GB card.
BTW, the method I used to install nvidia with 2.6.37 was

pacman -S nvidia nvidia-utils
and that worked with all of the .37 kernels (-1 -2 -3 -4) which was download from kernel.org.
When I compiled the .38 (using the same .config of .37), it just boots up to the terminal (not loading gdm). However, I could still login by typing my username and password. So I've checked dmesg of both .37 and .38 and noticed that the Nvidia driver is not loaded in .38.
I tried reinstall it by running pacman and it doesn't do anything. It was thinking of uninstalling nvidia and nvidia-utils but there are so many dependencies conflicts (like screensaver, compiz, etc).
Since, I didn't want to mess up my .37 install, I just grabbed an old HDD and installed from scratch again. This time, I compiled the .38 kernel first (without gui) and then installed nvidia nvidia-utils. It was the same problem.
With this observation, I'm concluding that the nvidia and nvidia-utils from pacman is not compatible with .38.
I've read that I have to wait for nvidia to release a driver that will be compatible with the .38 kernel. Is that true? Does it mean I have to wait for nvidia/nvidia-utils to be updated from pacman? How would I know when it is updated?
I've also read about nouveau, but I guess that is not for me because it doesn't support 3D.
Is there a work around for me to use nvidia/nvidia-utils with .38?
Is nvidia and nvidia-utils proprietary drivers? What is the difference with these two and the one you download directly from nvidia?
First of all, I apologize for the bombardment of questions. As you can tell, I'm so clueless on how nvidia drivers work on linux in general (since it was spoon fed by mint) and I really would love to learn about this is a deeper level. Could someone please explain to me (LAYMANS terms) how nvidia works (and possibly a solution to my issue).
EDIT: Additional info - I have a netbook that also runs arch. It uses an Intel GMA integrated video chip which I used "xf86-video-intel" from pacman and I believe since it is open source, it works with .38 fine. So does that mean if you use an open source driver, it will work with all other kernels?
I have installed Fedora today after trying various Linux Distributions. The only other one I really used for a longer time was ubuntu. So, theres an application for syncing Evolution with my Palm (Tungsten E2) which is called gnome-pilot. I set it up, but in contrast to ubuntu, I can't sync my Contacts and calendar with fedora. THe only things I can chose are shown on the screenshot below.
Is there any way to make my palm also sync its calendar (like it perfectly worked in ubuntu) ?
Edit: I was too stupid to search for "Gnome-Pilot" in the packet manager. Because if I did, i would have found "Additional conduits" which allows me to do that
I have installed the Nvidia drivers on my desktop using [URL] according to the Debian way. Everything seems to be fine except the resolution. The best it will let me choose is something like 600x480. I have searched and most of what is suggested around the web is to change xorg.conf. I have tried this using different setting suggested but nothing is working. I did not have a xorg.conf file so I created one with the setting suggested on the Debian wiki.
