Sometimes I don't want commands to be added to my history. In bash it wasCode:unset HISTFILE
You would run it after a few commands and it would clear them all.I can't find out how to do it with ZSH.
I just started using the z shell. i have one problem, what command clears z shells history? I know how to clear the .histfile: echo "" > .histfile, but when i press the up arrow key the last command is still there.
How would I clear my commandline history at logon/logoff/startup time? I tried this : editing my /etc/rc.d/rc.local file like this I know this is for system startup
Code: #!/bin/sh # /etc/rc.d/rc.local: Local system initialization script. # Put any local startup commands in here.
Also, if you have anything that needs to be run at shutdown time you can make an /etc/rc.d/rc.local_shutdown script and put those commands in there.
#clear user history ~/.bash_history echo "" > ~/.bash_history #clear root history /root/.bash_history echo "" > /root/.bash_history
i am using natty 11.04. can you please guide me how to clear recent history in dash under search files folders?also tell me how to customize dash application menu etc...
I have installed Squeeze with the Gnome desktop and the Totem Movie Player Application. It seems to work ok but it seem there is no way to delete the history. I found one post on the subject with no reply and have read the bug reports and the problem was not mentioned. I tried to find the file containing the history without success.
I used to use CCleaner so I could keep specific cookies from being deleted while I deleted all others. Is there any way I can do this with Ubuntu? Firefox doesn't seem to allow it other than manual deletion which is not as fast an automated as CCleaner made the task.
I am using squid proxy server for sharing Internet in my internal network. I would like to know that how can I check the browsing history by individual users web surfing history by their IP addresses?
l want to be linux ubuntu in my acer laptop but when l boot my computer with the cd ,it boot alright but the display is not clear you cannot see only lines .
i have my pc connected to my 24 inch lcd monitor via DVI and my laptop via VGA. i noticed ubuntu is slightly more blurry than the pc. would the difference likely stem from the manner of connection or faulty drivers on ubuntu's behalf?
in Firefox, all the pictures I view online are pretty blurry and pixalated. Even things like the google name on google.com. This does not happen in chrome, so it is not from my internet or my computer.
I've been advised to "clear the java cache", and to do so under Windows, one would open the java control panel. Of course, I'm using OpenJDK, and not Java's java.
Can anyone tell me how I would clear the java cache?
I've done a bit of googling, but can't find a clear answer on this. If I format a USB drive using NTFS, so I can store copies of files from my Win 7 machine and my Lucid machine, will it work.
Installing a router, and I need to completely "wipe" iptables (flush I mean) on both computers, and I think I run ufw/gufw on both, so that would need to be uninstalled. The router is very secure, has NAT, etc, etc, and I'd rather setup all that side of things in one point, rather than on each computer.
i signed up for an online storage website because i want to clear up some harddrive space. the way they upload is java based and whenever i get to the upload page i get the message at the top of the screen that says "additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page." when i click on "install missing plugins" it tells me "no suitable plugins were found." obviously i need to manually install something, what should i install? i cant always understand the descriptions in synaptic.
Running 8.0.4LTS. I can't get rid of the Adept Notifier applet because Adept Updater cannot download language-pack-en 1:8.04+20100117. It always comes up with a Requested of "no change". If I do a Request Upgrade it changes to "BREAK (upgrade)", but when I hit Apply Updates, I get the following error: Could not commit changes - Adept Notifier There was an error committing changes. Possibly there was a problem downloading some packages or the commit would break packages. I can live without a new language-pack-en, but I would like to clear it from my Adept Notifier, so I can see when I really do need updates.
I've been using empathy to chat on MSN. The problem is I can't erase my password when I want to log off. Theres just one user on this machine, I know it would be easier to create diffrent profiles. But I just want to be able to tell empathy that it should ask my pw to log on to my account.
I am not clear with certain sections of apache I saw a default virtual host file. as follows
[code]...
What does Directory / here represents is it same as document root or different. The following section where /var/www is included in Directory Index
[code]...
I am not clear as why by default ScriptAlias is present in the default vhost is it necessary to keep in other Virtual Hosts. Similarly /doc/ what is this referring to in following section
My mom just switched from Comcast to Clear 4G Mobile Internet service and I don't know how to get this working on a Ubuntu 10.04 system. The Clear installation USB only gives me two options: Windows Users and Mac OS X Users. I was wondering if the Linux WiMax driver would be instrumental in having Clear work on my Ubuntu 10.04 system. From this website: [URL]..
However, if there are no other options, we do have 10 days to back out of the contract.I'm a dim light bulb when it comes to these things. If I didn't provide enough info, just let me know!
Ubuntu 10.4 64-bit.I am almost certainly using the wrong term here, but if I knew for sure what I was looking for I probably would have managed to google it.In a fit of minor insanity, I used ffmpeg to convert all my video files I've impulse downloaded over the last decade or so to mp4, mostly because Easytag will happily tag them an assist in reorganizing them, but of course some videos didn't convert, either properly or at all due to issues with the original file.
But - every 108 -123 (Going by the filecount in my trash when it happens; I've wondered if the actual number is 127 or 128 but haven't gotten that definitive yet.) videos or so, totem dies, and so does every other video player I can use, VLC, mplayer, et al. For awhile I rebooted, then I figured out just logging out/in cleared the error, but I've yet to narrow down what exactly is causing it.Since it crosses all players I can only assume that there is some kind of cache that is getting filled up that is cleared when you logout, but after doing some digging it's nothing cleared by anything I've found like bitbleach.
My system is giving me a low space on filesystem warning. When I run disk analyser, it seems that /var/lib/apt-xapian-index is using 97% of it!! That's 8.9GB. I found another post which explained that each time this package runs it builds a new index set, and how to make it only update new packages. I made that change, but this doesn't release the 8.9GB that I guess can just be cleared down somehow...
I hope it can be cleared down anyway. How to clear all this down? I do want the package to remain running on the system, I just want to clean it up and release all that space. I'm on Lucid, I also saw the warning on Jaunty but it went away after upgrade to Lucid... now it's happening again, I can't ignore and hope it goes away for ever!
I'm an Ubuntu user and I always chat on Yahoo, MSN, Gtalk and Facebook accounts using Empathy (with the fact that there is no better alternative; pidgin is heavy for me). I have noticed long earlier that all the chat histories are saved. However, just today I discovered that I couldn't delete those histories. Hitting the clear option from the right click fly out menu doesn't permanently remove the history. I can see them again when I try to look for previous conversations.
I believe there is a way to permanently remove chat histories from Empathy.
