Jun 5, 2011How do I clear the list of recent documents in Fedora 15 Gnome 3? There were a few files that I've already deleted from the system, but when I search for them, they still appear under the 'Recent Documents' list. This is proving to be a bit of a privacy nightmare.

Dec 6, 2010I try to clear 'recently used documents' within the kmenu nothing happens, i.e. the list is not cleared, until I reboot or log out and back in again. It's an old issue but thought I'd just ask if there are some fix for this. There is another small flaw on my system as well which is with refreshing the content displayed in a directory using dolphin (and possibly other file-viewers/apps). For instance, if I unpack a tar/rar/zip package I have to manually refresh dolphin for having it display the new extracted folder.

Dec 18, 2010I can access my windows my documentsmusic by mounting my windows drive and browsing to it. I can then playwatch my movies and pics in Ubuntu.But what I really want to be able to do is re-map the Ubunbu docs folder like so:
Ubuntu Pics = Windows My Documents pics.
Ubuntu Videos = Windows My Documents Videos.
I'm not very unix savy so I've been using Ubuntu tweak PersonalDefault Folder Locations setting and browsing to my Windows folders. But it doesn't work.I have managed to make a desktop 'short cut' and that works but I'd rather set the system wide default document folders.

Dec 25, 2009How can I change the mountpoint of my partition /media/documents to /documents.This is a partition of sdb and a fixed disk.The reason is that /media/ sometimes creates ghostdirectories while /Windows/C never does so, programmes writing/reading from this partition therfore don't work if a ghostdir_ exists.(BTW Suse is on sdb5 and sdb6. on sda is windows and used to be Ubuntu, the Suse-swap is sda5. Windows is out of use.)

I can read and write to the music and photos directories but I can't write anything to My Documents in the windows file system. I have tried in Gnome and from a terminal and checked that I have write permissions set correctly.
For example in the My Documents directory:

Dec 3, 2010I was trying to install Ubuntu on a USB stick. Here is my problem. So I went to the ubuntu site and downloaded Ubuntu. Now I have the .iso file on my computer but if I click on it, it asks me to burn but I want to save it on a USB stick. I did that with Universal USB-Installer. It goes smooth but when its finished its not the .iso file thats in it but just some documents and stuff... How do I get the .iso ? ( I want to use it with VirtualBox but you need the .iso for that...)

Jan 30, 2010So my windows 7 partition got all messed up. Fortunately I have a working Ubuntu partition so I mounted the windows partition in Ubuntu and went in to pull my files over to linux so I could wipe the windows partition and reinstall windows 7. Everything is going great until I try to get into my documents.
I go into documents and settings so I can get at said files and it's empty. I figure it's a security issue so I try to alter the security settings and of course it doesn't let me. At this point I realize "crap my windows user account has a password on it".
So to the point at hand, is there any way to mount the windows partition and get around the windows login so I can get at the secured files (and copy them to the ubuntu partition)?

Jan 29, 2010Running 8.0.4LTS. I can't get rid of the Adept Notifier applet because Adept Updater cannot download language-pack-en 1:8.04+20100117. It always comes up with a Requested of "no change". If I do a Request Upgrade it changes to "BREAK (upgrade)", but when I hit Apply Updates, I get the following error:

There was an error committing changes. Possibly there was a problem downloading some packages or the commit would break packages.
I can live without a new language-pack-en, but I would like to clear it from my Adept Notifier, so I can see when I really do need updates.

Aug 22, 2010Ubuntu 10.4 64-bit.I am almost certainly using the wrong term here, but if I knew for sure what I was looking for I probably would have managed to google it.In a fit of minor insanity, I used ffmpeg to convert all my video files I've impulse downloaded over the last decade or so to mp4, mostly because Easytag will happily tag them an assist in reorganizing them, but of course some videos didn't convert, either properly or at all due to issues with the original file.
But - every 108 -123 (Going by the filecount in my trash when it happens; I've wondered if the actual number is 127 or 128 but haven't gotten that definitive yet.) videos or so, totem dies, and so does every other video player I can use, VLC, mplayer, et al. For awhile I rebooted, then I figured out just logging out/in cleared the error, but I've yet to narrow down what exactly is causing it.Since it crosses all players I can only assume that there is some kind of cache that is getting filled up that is cleared when you logout, but after doing some digging it's nothing cleared by anything I've found like bitbleach.

Nov 9, 2010My system is giving me a low space on filesystem warning. When I run disk analyser, it seems that /var/lib/apt-xapian-index is using 97% of it!! That's 8.9GB. I found another post which explained that each time this package runs it builds a new index set, and how to make it only update new packages. I made that change, but this doesn't release the 8.9GB that I guess can just be cleared down somehow...
I hope it can be cleared down anyway. How to clear all this down? I do want the package to remain running on the system, I just want to clean it up and release all that space. I'm on Lucid, I also saw the warning on Jaunty but it went away after upgrade to Lucid... now it's happening again, I can't ignore and hope it goes away for ever!

Jan 12, 2011I'm an Ubuntu user and I always chat on Yahoo, MSN, Gtalk and Facebook accounts using Empathy (with the fact that there is no better alternative; pidgin is heavy for me). I have noticed long earlier that all the chat histories are saved. However, just today I discovered that I couldn't delete those histories. Hitting the clear option from the right click fly out menu doesn't permanently remove the history. I can see them again when I try to look for previous conversations.
I believe there is a way to permanently remove chat histories from Empathy.

Apr 18, 2011I've been meaning to ask about this since Ubuntu 10.10 launched. How come clicking the "Post message..." text box in the Me Menu doesn't auto-clear the text? You have to highlight the text, press Backspace and then post your message. Not very nice or intuitive. No biggie, just surprised it wasn't patched by someone within a day or two of launch as these things often are!
