Ubuntu :: /usr/sbin/apache2 Is Not A Supported Apache Binary Or Control Script?
Aug 19, 2010
I am trying to install Google Sitemap Generator at server. I am getting the following errors:
Quote:
This installation updates the Apache configuration file. To find that file, the installer needs the location of the Apache binary (httpd) or control script (apachectl). The binary or control script that you specify must support the -V option. What is the location of the Apache binary or control script? [/usr/sbin/apache2] Can't determine Group directive for Apache. /usr/sbin/apache2 is not a supported Apache binary or control script. Do you want to enter a different location for the Apache binary or control script? [Y/n]n The Google Sitemap Generator installation has been aborted.

**Forenote** i HAVE posted the other threads with the same intro of "hosting cp - " for the subject. I am attempting to create a web based hosting control panel and i figured that it would be easier & less confusing to post each different issue in a different thread so that answers to several differant problems weren't getting mixed up together. Ok, so as i said i'm building a hosting control panel and i need to figure out how to make my software control the functions of apache2. like setting up virtual hosts, sub domains, domains, etc.
if anyone can direct me to some good articles on interfacing with apache, or some open source projects that i could try to reverse engineer, that would be great. ive tried searching google, but i couldnt really find anything that really explained what i am trying to do. probably because most people usually dont try to use php to control apache as a weekend project, or a task to pass the time.

I've got an apache-svn server up and running fine but I'm struggling with an irritating problem. I need the apache server to display .vbs, .cs., vb., .sh, .pl., .c, .h, .cpp, etc, etc files in the browser. Whenever our users click on a script they get a download dialog instead of the script being displayed in the browser as plain/text. I have added:
Code: AddType text/plain .vbs Into /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/mime.conf but it seems to be getting ignored. how I can tell apache to treat script files as plain-text?

I have been using wamp on an xp box and now have set up ubuntu with the localhost server seeming to be going okay.
As this is just a desktop graphical test server with no real public hosting, I was hoping to find a control panel like in wamp where one can stop/start php, apache, mysql, phpmyadmin and see logs etc.

Let's get clear with all bin and sbin folders(from filesystem hierarchy standard):
So the question is: Why there are so many directories and what are the meanings of /usr/sbin, /usr/local/sbin and /usr/local/bin?
Many programs are distributed through archives and we have to build them from source code. Usually they have makefile so it's quite easy. This process involves creating files in usr/local/lib, usr/local/bin... usr/local/whatever without creating specific folders for a given program.
I think it's not right because if we need to remove the program we have to manually delete every of its files if the program's creator didn't take care of it.

I don't know how this happened, but my keyboard copy and paste functions have stopped working. Oddly enough, I discovered that I can only copy and paste by using the third mouse button. Pressing down on the scroll wheel after highlighting text copies the text, pressing it again pastes it Ican still use the Edit-copy and Edit-paste menu functions.
I'm sure it has something to do with all the tinkering I have been doing with my desktop. I have been experimenting with CompizConfig and Cairo dock, changing my themes and things of this nature.

Laptop is Dell Latitude C600/C500 with Pentium III 850Mhz, 256Kb L2 Cache, 256MB RAM, ATI M3 video card, HD 20005 MB and sound card is EES Maestro 3i. After trying to do something with Windows 2000 which was installed on the machine, I decided to put Linux without keeping windows on the machine. First I try with Xubuntu (latest version) which was working but slowly, then I found that Debian could work fine on that machine. I have installed latest version 5.08 and was surprised how goodly old machine can work. I solved problems with screen resolution (change from 800x600 to 1024x768) but I couldn't find solution how to fix problem with sound.
Actually I don't have sound on the machine. I looked for a linux driver for that sound card and Dell is only providing windows drivers. Then I found that I can solve the problem with ALSA drivers but I couldn't find the easy way (or any way at all) to install drivers and to get back the sound. When I click on 'Volume Control' (top right corner of the screen) I get the message: 'Volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured.'

I have installed CentOS 5.5 x86-64 on my HP 6710b laptop and currently am in the middle of adjusting it to my needs (software/hardware development). As stated in the subject I can't add /sbin to $PATH. I have tried editing .bash_profile in my home directory and adding /sbin to PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin, but it does not help. It's not a big problem, al though it would be much easier to use some commands (ifconfig for example) globaly.

I've recently installed 10.10 onto my laptop, a Toshiba Equium A-100. It's been working perfectly for the last few weeks, but today I woke up, booted and got this;
Code:
mount: mounting dev/disk/by-uuid/9f8e1fd1-ca75-4eeb-8afc-a6b7bd756180 on /root
failed: Invalid argument
mount: mounting /dev on /root/dev failed: No such file or directory
[code]....
I'm a bit of a linux newbie, and while I can use the system fine, once we get into a shell I'm out of my depth. My laptop is useless now, and, unluckily, my 2000 word end-of-semester submission is on it. No, I didn't back it up because I wrote it last night. Arrgh.

I hope that you will be able to help me. I know that my topic may seem the same as some other threads, but there is a twist and it seems that I can't sort things out. I installed Ubuntu on the family's 4 year old Dell about a year ago when Windows stopped working (too many bluescreens!). It seed to be good, until one day when I tried to boot and it listed some codes on a black screen. I then reinstalled ubuntu from one of my disks, and it worked fine... until the entire thing occurred again a week later. This happened once or twice more, until today's problem:
It won't boot into ubuntu and also has white writing on the black background (read this below). I tried to reinstall from a ubuntu install disk, burned additional install disks, made an install usb, and also tried opensuse. They all say the below message when I try to boot into the disk:
Killed
mount: mounting on /dev on root/dev failed: No such file or directory
mount: mounting on /sys on root/sys failed: No such file or directory
mount: mounting on /proc on root/proc failed: No such file or directory
Target filesystem doesn't have /sbin/init.

After normal use the computer was turned on and would not load (10.04) and the error message on the screen was :
Quote:
/sbin/init: error while loading shared libraries: libnih.so.1: cannot open shared object file: Input/output error
[ 26.369130] Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
Anyways, I put the hard drive in an external unit, and I ran fsck. Many errors came up and they were all fixed. I was able to mount the drive on my other computer and back up files in the home directory.
If I try to select recovery mode and the same error appears.
What can I do in this case? Can I somehow get into a recovery-like mode off of the livecd to maybe fix the packages that might be "messed up"?

I have an Acer netbook with the netbook version of Ubuntu and Windows 7. When I try to boot on Ubuntu I get a terminal that says "Target filesystem doesn't have /sbin/init. No init found. Try passing init= bootarg." I've found questions about this, but I get lost at "after booting from livecd." I put ubuntu-10.10-netbook-i386 on a flash card, but I don't know how to boot from it; I think that's my main problem.
