Server :: Optimizing Apache2 Load?

Jul 23, 2011

I would like to ask how can I optimize apache2 load on my dedicated server. I am hosting Facebook applications on it, but most users will get a Timed Out message when they try to access it. I was tinkering with MaxClients directive in apache2 config, and it got better, but still it's not best. Programmers are trying their best to optimize the applications at their side, but I am afraid this is an server issue.

Server :: Apache2 - Suexec Error: Command Not In Docroot (/usr/bin/php-cgi)

Jul 7, 2010

Basically when I try execute a PHP script with SuexecUserGroup set, I get the following error:

uid: (501/uname) gid: (501/501) cmd: php-cgi
command not in docroot (/usr/bin/php-cgi)

Without SuexecUserGroup set, they work fine, but obviously aren't executed as the script's owner.

Here's one of the domain's configs:

Code:

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName www.domain
ServerAlias domain

[code]...

For a bit of background info, the end result i'm trying to achieve is for files that get uploaded via a php script to be owned by the user account that owns the script rather than by the apache user.

Server :: SCSI I/O Error And Unstoppable Apache2 Process?

Apr 30, 2009

I currently have a massive problem with my main webserver: one of the SCSI drives where I keep my htdocs seems to have failed (sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Result: hostbyte=DID_NO_CONNECT driverbyte=DRIVER_OK,SUGGEST_OK end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 7797601).

Since I have no backup (dumb!dumb!dumb!) of it, I tried to copy what I could on the fly, but that failed miserably. The next idea was to umount the volume and try remounting it R-O, but I have a bunch of apache2 processes that are apparently reading/writing on it and I can't seem to find any way of terminating them. I tried via init script, killall and kill -9 but they just don't respond. Until I can terminate those processes, I won't be able to unmount the drive and try saving what's left of the data.Oh and the cherry on top of the cake: the server is 1100 miles away so I can't even access it physically..Is there any way I didn't think of to get rid of those apache processes?

Server :: Apache2 EnableSendfile And Error - Broken Pipe: Core_output_filter

Mar 2, 2010

I have installed a LAMP server (Debian Lenny + Apache2 + PHP Version 5.3.1-0.dotdeb.1). On this machine, my web application (PHP + MySQL) exists in 2 flavours:

- Dev
- Prod

In /etc/apache2/sites-available, I have ims & ims-dev, one for each instance. Their contents are identical in terms of settings, except for the paths (dev/prod):

Code:

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin admin@domain.com
ServerName ims.domain.com
ServerAlias ims.domain.com

[code]....

why this difference when the settings are strictly identical? Do I need to add EnableSendfile off in my conf files to stop that?

Server :: Unexplainable 404 Error In Apache2 / Requested Url /~myusername/site/ Not Found?

May 26, 2009

I am in the process of writing a web-application using apache,mod-python and cheetah. I installed apache2, mod-python and cheetah and also enabled the userdir module in apache2 so that i can host the webpages inside my public_html folder.

The public_html folder has a folder named 'site' which gets displayed when I type "url" in the browser. There are subfolders inside this 'site' folder and the site folder also has an index.html page inside it.

But when I click on the site folder in the browser, I get a 'Requested url /~myusername/site/ not found'. There are files inside the folder with 777 permissions and still I get this error.

I use Ubuntu Jaunty with the following configuration - 'Apache/2.2.11 (Ubuntu) PHP/5.2.6-3ubuntu4.1 with Suhosin-Patch mod_python/3.3.1 Python/2.6.2 Server at localhost Port 80'.

These are the lines I have added to the /etc/apache2/sites-available/default file

Code:

<Directory "/home/myusername/public_html/site/">
SetHandler mod_python
PythonHandler mod_python.publisher
PythonDebug On

Ubuntu Servers :: Permission Denied Error 13 On Apache2 Setup

May 8, 2010

I wanted to setup a local Apache2 server for some programming and testing. I installed and got Apache2 working with PHP, MySQL and all works fine. Now I wanted to add an additional directory to somewhere in my /home. And that's where things went wrong. I went to edit /etc/apache2/sites-available/default. This is it:

Code:
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost
DocumentRoot /var/www
<Directory />
Options FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride None
</Directory>
<Directory /var/www/>
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
AllowOverride None
Order allow,deny

Code:
You don't have permission to access /po/ on this server.
So I go to the logfile; which says this:
Code:
[Sat May 08 16:43:51 2010] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] (13)Permission denied: access to /po/ denied

I tried a lot of stuff using chmod and chown, but all to no avail. I tried to change the ownership of the /home/name/web to root, and to www-data, I changed file permissions to allow executing the files.

Ubuntu :: Getting CGI To Work In Apache2 Server

May 12, 2010

I'm running 10.04 with Apache2/PHP5.x I wanted to test some basic cgi scripts, but my browser is displaying the code (#!...) If I run the scripts on the console, they work fine so CGI is not the problem, it's apache. To install the CGI module I ran sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-perl2 with no problems. By the way, I installed Apache through apt-get instead of doing it manually, but it seems that the installation divides the conf file in different parts, so the regular apache2.conf has this:

Code:
# Include module configuration:
Include /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/*.load
Include /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/*.conf
# Include all the user configurations:
Include /etc/apache2/httpd.conf
# Include ports listing
Include /etc/apache2/ports.conf
[Code]....

I can't figure out what I need to do to get CGI working on my server.

Server :: Apache2-mpm-itk Will Not Successfully Restart

Jun 15, 2010

I am having some problems after installing apache2-mpm-itk on my Debian 5.4 server. From my understanding apache2-mpm-itk will run child processes as root until a http request is received. It then suid's to the username in the VirtualHost directive. This is all working fine, as I can see a few apache processes started by a specific user.

However, the problem is when I try to restart apache. It will kill all the processes running by root but wont kill any of the processes that have been suid'ed to another username.

When i attempt to restart I get this error:

Code:
charged:/etc/apache2# /etc/init.d/apache2 restart
Restarting web server: apache2 ... waiting (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80
(98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80

[Code]....

If I do a "ps aux | grep apache" before and after I see all the root processes killed, but processes running as specified users from VritualHost directive remaining.

Now I am not an extreme linux power user, but I know a bit.

Server :: Redirection With Different Folders Over Apache2

Nov 6, 2010

I have a problem about redirection over Apache2 over Debian Lenny. We have build a LAMP, and our programmer make a software with these features:

When you put on your browser (i.e.) [URL], you access to the program in /var/www/vhosts/hugohome/inside. And when you put [URL] you access to the program in /var/www/vhosts/hugohome/outside. Today, if you just put [URL] our Apache answers 403 (forbidden), because we had blocked folder access. (You know....isn't the right way). Our Apache's Document Root is in /var/www/vhosts/hugohome.

Our goal is to change definitely [URL] to access -> /var/www/vhosts/hugohome/inside. This is our main intention. Also, we can continue with [URL] pointing to /var/www/vhosts/hugohome/outside. I thought, hmm easy!: I can change the DocumentRoot to /var/www/vhosts/hugohome/inside and try with an Alias to outside. But the problem is that the programmer has taken the software reference with /var/www/vhosts/hugohome and when I tried to change the Document Root the programs didn't work fine (loops, error 404, etc).

How can I do?. I have tried with Apache with many manners, but I just have a relative success with: "RedirectMatch ^/$ [URL]". It works, but the Browser shows the ugly [URL]. Our intention is just show [URL]. Unfortunately we can't work directly with the DNS servers, and I guess that I can resolve with (i.e.) Apache and Bind together.
