im opening greek subtitles on ubuntu but i cannot see them i know this happen because the subtitle created on a windows system but if you tell me a method step by step (because im begginer ) for how to be able to open the srt file and see the normal greek characters i dont want to use the option on the player to recognize the subtitle. i want to be able to open the srt and edit some words for example

Anyway, I have created the empty .is_audio_player file but still the player does not show up in RB. I can access the player just fine through Nautilus, and syncing it actually worked for a while, but now for some reason it has stopped.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a cheap 32GB MP4 player I bought on Ebay. I was made in China. I paid $20.00 for it. Under WinXP my laptop recognized it as a flash disk. I used Win Media Player 11 to Sync up my downloads. WMP 11 did NOT have to be running in order for the OS to recongnize the player. I could treat it just like a jump drive.
Ubuntu 9.1 (64bit) won't recognize it. I don't use ver. 10.04 or 10.10 due to problems with video, wireless and other problems. 9.1 works like a dream on ALMOST everything. I'm tired of dual booting.

When I try movie DVD's I get no desktop icon nor is it shown in the file managers. When trying to access the movie via VLC (open disk) I get the following error:
Playback failure:
DVDRead could not open the disc "/dev/dvd".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///dev/dvd'. Check the log for details. (Don't know what log its referring to)SMplayer and xine won't work either
I have tried every tip I could find on this forum. I installed all restricted format files including libdvdread4 and then ran this command sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
followed all the advice from this restricted formats/playing dvd's
Its like the drive won't recognize a movie DVD.
Just as a side not I use to run simply mepis with no issues with movie dvd's. I also dual boot to Winxp no problems their either
Ubuntu 10.04 won't recognise my Sandisk Sansa Clip+ as installed on comp. It sees memory sticks and memory cards. Are there drivers that I need to install?? Anything in Synaptic Package Manager that needs to be installed?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Xfce 4.8, which now provides built-in samba browing in thunar. This works like a charm. I can browse a samba share (external HD connecter to router via USB). Yet it appears to me now that the support is limited to thunar. I mean double clicking on a file allows me to open/edit that file if and only if the software itself has samba support. In practice, double-clicking on a movie opens it with vlc thanks to vlc's own smb support. Even then, I can't find a way to add the subtitle file. I reckon that to use the share transparently, I would need to mount it the "mount" way. Either on a mount point like /mnt/hard_drive or something like .gvfs/hard_drive.
Is my understanding correct ? Is that my only option? Considering the disk won't be switched on at startup, fstab is not the solution. Would gigolo be the right choice? I spent some time trying gigolo a few days ago, following an easy tuto found on the web and it didn't work as expected. If needed I could give it another try.
I'm using Handbrake 0.9.5 for encoding and I'd like to add a "hard-subtitle" to a video : the subtitle has to be a part of the video. I've seen on makeuseof.com that we could hard-sub a video thanks to the "Forced only" option. On Ubuntu 10.04 amd64, I don't have any checkbox for this option while importing SRT file. I've got the checkbox for "subtitles" I add by clicking on the "+ Subtitle" button, but it seems to be useless (I had a video_name.srt next to my video_name.m4v video file to re-encode). Is Handbrake now supporting only soft subbing ?

Then for convenience and usability I want to put them all in a .mkv container. How can I do this and with which programs? ffmpeg, vlc, mplayer? If I can do this all at once, that's fine. But I don't want to get the streams out of sync.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've transcoded a number of videos into mp4 which include subtitles. I was using VLC before which did not show these by default but now I want to use Totem.
Totem has the option to turn these off (change subtitles to none from auto) but I cannot find a way to set this globally (and it doesn't remember the setting for each file).
Is there a way to set "never show subtitles by default" globally or is there a way to delete the subtitles from the mp4 file? (They are not rendered on the video; they can be turned off).
Otherwise I may have to start my transcoding from scratch! (Disabling any subtitles).
I installed Maverick with auto login. One could undo this by reinstalling I suppose, but is there an easier way to get back to the standard form of login?Hopefully that will cause my default key ring to unlock correctly.

Now I want to rip this DVD but all the rippers I tried return a error at that point when they try to rip it. Rippers I tried:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get my XMMS Player to work. I've been reading the linux bible and it has a whole section just on xmms player management. when I typed in xmms in the terminal i get :
So i went to synaptic package manager and installed xmms but all I found was xmms2 I guess its the newer version. I ended up installing it, but now when I type in xmms2 in the terminal (because if i type in xmms i get the same output as above), it brings me to a bunch of cli commands used for using xmms in the terminal. How do I get the "winamp" type GUI interface with xmms2, I tried looking for it in my applications menu (even under sound and video) and its nowhere to be found. I just wanna enjoy the player with its normal graphical tool not through the command prompt (which seems like the only choice right now).

And as I said before there's no xmms installer in synaptic only xmms2 (which I installed and got the CLI not the GUI version). I'm using Ubuntu Karmic Koala.
