Ubuntu Multimedia :: 10.04 Won't Recognize Sandisk Sansa Player
Apr 14, 2011
Ubuntu 10.04 won't recognise my Sandisk Sansa Clip+ as installed on comp. It sees memory sticks and memory cards. Are there drivers that I need to install?? Anything in Synaptic Package Manager that needs to be installed?

Hardware: Sandisk Sansa m260
Software: 2.2.5A
When I copy files over ( from a PC running Ubuntu 10.10 ) to my Sansa m260 each track is listed multiple times. When I look at the contents with my file explorer on my PC I see only one copy of each track.
I tried deleting all files and starting over again on a fresh battery.

I'm using OpenSUSE-11.4+KDE and have not been able to access my Sansa Express drive. I can pull it up part way, but it acts as read only. I'm not sure what settings I may need to make in the Partitioner to fix this.If I boot into a LiveCD of LinuxMint10-KDE and plug it in it is instantly identified as a "Media Device," and I have access into the MTP section of it I believe.
I prefer using Banshee, but will use Dolphin to manual drop files it I can get the Sansa drive to operate as with Read+Write. I've seen this device listed here at "plug and play" [URL]../HCL:Gadgets#Media_Players

I have a Sandisk mp3 player. I got it because A - I like Sandisk and B - I know they have better out of box support for Linux than most other manufacturers. It is an 8gb mp3 player with an 8gb micro SD card, so each pieces of media mount independently under - SANDISK - 8gb Media.
Sandisk sits in my desk for a few months, unused, since then I upgrade systems to 9.10, blah blah... not it won't mount. Sure, it'll charge it and all. But the actual device won't mount. I did not check fdisk -l, however, I did check gparted and I never saw the thing get recognized.

I've always had trouble with Banshee recognizing media devices. Right now I have a Sansa Clip+ which I'd really like banshee to recognize. Unfortunately it wont at all.

I can not get my desktop running Ubuntu 9.10 to recognize my SANSA clip music player. When I plug it in (nothing), No icon on desktop, nothing in Nautilus. I've verified the USB ports are working by plugging in thumb drives and my I-pod.
When I hook the SANSA to my wife's laptop running Ubuntu 8.04 it works great no problems. I must have a setting wrong on my computer, but have NO idea how to fix it.

I have a cheap 32GB MP4 player I bought on Ebay. I was made in China. I paid $20.00 for it. Under WinXP my laptop recognized it as a flash disk. I used Win Media Player 11 to Sync up my downloads. WMP 11 did NOT have to be running in order for the OS to recongnize the player. I could treat it just like a jump drive.
Ubuntu 9.1 (64bit) won't recognize it. I don't use ver. 10.04 or 10.10 due to problems with video, wireless and other problems. 9.1 works like a dream on ALMOST everything. I'm tired of dual booting.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 My cd/dvd player recognizes game and data CD'S/DVD'S the cd/dvd icon appears on desktop and I can access the file as well as playing games off the cd's.
When I try movie DVD's I get no desktop icon nor is it shown in the file managers. When trying to access the movie via VLC (open disk) I get the following error:
Playback failure:
DVDRead could not open the disc "/dev/dvd".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///dev/dvd'. Check the log for details. (Don't know what log its referring to)SMplayer and xine won't work either
I have tried every tip I could find on this forum. I installed all restricted format files including libdvdread4 and then ran this command sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
followed all the advice from this restricted formats/playing dvd's
Its like the drive won't recognize a movie DVD.
Just as a side not I use to run simply mepis with no issues with movie dvd's. I also dual boot to Winxp no problems their either

Do you know any dvd playback app that can recognize inputs from a remote control (like play, pause e.t.c) and at the same time when I launch it to check the dvd rom and resume playback from last time. I used vlc but it does not seem that works like the way I do.

I have an 8gb Sansa Fuze, filled with mp3s only. Although it appears in rhythmbox, the songs don't. Plus I can't even access it as a hard drive I've been using it with Winamp when I was still using XP, if that matters.
EDIT: seems like it was in MTP mode by default when 'Auto Detect' was set. I switched to MSC and I can now access it but the music still does not appear, whether in Rhythmbox or in the folder 'MUSIC'.

I just upgraded to 10.04 and now my Sansa Fuze does not get mounted. The Fuze screen says connected and then writing, but then locks up.\ I have to disconnect it and do a reset before I can use it. I did get an error message on from Ubuntu. As I recall it looked like this:
DBus error org.gtk.Private.Remove Volume Monitor.Failed: An operation is already pending Anybody else tried to use their Fuze with 10.04?

I have a numbe of music files in the ogg format, and they work fine on my Sansa Fuze.However, I recently used soundconverter to convert some flacs to ogg. These files are not showing up in the Sansa's menu once they are copied over.One thing I notice is that the file properties display as Type 'Ogg Multimedia File' for the ones that work, whereas the ones from Soundconverter display the Type 'Ogg Audio'

It worked fine with the base install of 10.4 but somewhere along the way it stopped working and became read only.Autodetect and MTP modes cause only the Fuze to show up in Rhythmbox. However the track numbers are all wrong and some things are garbled. MSC mode, which I used in the past, shows the Fuze and card both in Rhythmbox and on the desktop. However it's in read only mode.

Last week when I was still running Lucid I could get Banshee to read and write to my Sansa Clip Plus fine, but now that I have upgraded to Maverick Banshee can no longer see it.
I have it set in MSC mode with an .is_audio_player file (that worked back in Lucid) and Rhythmbox can see it and read and write to it fine. Has anyone else encountered this problem or does anyone else know what might be causing it? Banshee's version is 1.7.6 and the contents of my .is_audio_file are posted below:
Code:
audio_folders=MUSIC/,PODCASTS/,AUDIOBOOKS/
output_formats=application/ogg,audio/mpeg,audio/flac,audio/x-ms-wma,audio/aac,audio/mp4,audio/audible
input_formats=application/ogg,audio/mpeg,audio/flac,audio/x-ms-wma,audio/aac,audio/mp4,audio/audible

I am trying to connect a Sansa Clip Zip with rockbox firmware. Debian does not recognise/automount the drives (4gb of internal mem and 32gb sdhc card) whereas Mint 17 had no problem with them.
Are there additional libraries needed? I believe the filesystem is FAT32 rather than anything more exotic so not sure why it doesn't recognise the drives. The clip zip charges but doesn't mount.

No media player recognizes my Philips MP3 Player as such, I've put all my hopes into Rhythmbox, it seems to be the most likely one to work. Anyway, I have created the empty .is_audio_player file but still the player does not show up in RB. I can access the player just fine through Nautilus, and syncing it actually worked for a while, but now for some reason it has stopped.

I've been away from Linux for a while, so I need to get informed about some of the 32- vs. 64-bit issues concerning video players and codecs. So, what is everyone using these days?
More specifically, is it possible to play, e.g., .wmv files with 64-bit Kaffeine (my favorite player) or any other 64-bit video player? If so, then which combination of player and codec should I use?

If you have problem using Ubuntu 11.04 from USB, remove the U3 launchpad if you do not need it at all. It may solve your problem.Link: [URL] I am not a Ubuntu/Linux user but I do keep a copy of Ubuntu LiveUSB in my Sandisk cruzer micro 8GB USB stick in case of system failure. It comes with the U3 lanuchpad that I never use.The USB stick was working happily with Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10. However when I formatted the stick and put Ubuntu 11.04 (checksum is ok) into it, it failed to boot from the stick every single time. I was getting this error even though I have disabled all(one) my physical DVD-RWs in BIOS:
Code:
mounting /dev/sr0 on /cdrom. failed Device or resource busy.
I do not remember the wording...)The error message appeared when I saw the Ubuntu logo and the five animating dots. So I decided to remove U3 launchpad and voil! I could boot for the first time (and 6th time in a row without problem now).sidenote: My physical DVD-RW drive is still blocking the bootup half of the times even if there is no discs in it. Disabling the drive in BIOS solve the problem. The error occurs before I see the five animating dots. The screen stops at

the U3 system mounts on dev/sr1 while the rest oi the 8 GB USB drive is usually /dev/sdb or sometimes /dev/sdc.
fdisk will not write to this /dev/sr1 partition
Code:
[root@localhost ~]# fdisk /dev/sr1
You will not be able to write the partition table.
Note: sector size is 2048 (not 512)

I have an IBM T43; only one HD allowed. It is loaded with Xp on the one HD, and others have and do use it regularly.I have loaded Lenny on Kingston USB flash on this machine without problem (sdb1 root and bootable.) I refuse to allow GRUB to be installed on the HD, tell it to load on /dev/sdb1, it completes and reboots. I then edit GRUB (HD0, 1) to (HD0, 0.) It then boots in fine. Later I edit the Boot entry.
When I attempt to do this with a Toshiba 8Gb Transmemory USB or a SanDisk 8Gb unit it simply restarts and displays a "Error Loading Operating System" messageIve noted on the SanDisk the U3 business and have removed it via the provided tool; it still does not load.In G Parted Ive noted on the Toshiba a hiddenfile at the beginning of the formatted partition. but can do nothing to remove it.It takes up quite a bit of territory. And, it too will not load.
