Software :: Can't Merge A Subtitle With Video With Handbrake
Jul 26, 2011
I'm using Handbrake 0.9.5 for encoding and I'd like to add a "hard-subtitle" to a video : the subtitle has to be a part of the video. I've seen on makeuseof.com that we could hard-sub a video thanks to the "Forced only" option. On Ubuntu 10.04 amd64, I don't have any checkbox for this option while importing SRT file. I've got the checkbox for "subtitles" I add by clicking on the "+ Subtitle" button, but it seems to be useless (I had a video_name.srt next to my video_name.m4v video file to re-encode). Is Handbrake now supporting only soft subbing ?

I am using ffmpeg for merge wav files to a mov video. My doing is below
1. First extract audio (wav file) from video
2. Create wav file from mp3 track 1
3. Create wav file from mp3 track 2
4 Merge extract audio from video with track 1 and track2.
Now finally create a new video with original video's video stream and merged audio stream.
Process is working. However final video is 3-4 times greater than original one. I want that final video should be near about size of original video. As I understand, all three wav files (created from ) make video larger.
Example commands i using is as below:

I'm really new to all these *nix stuffs but I already likes the software, the community and even the manuals) Can anyone help me with subject? I like watching all these good shows airing through bittorrent and on-line hostings but I don't know English as well as I think so I also need to download a lot of subtitles. Is there any media player for *nix with built-in online subtitle search, download and open?

I've decided to start backing up my dvd collection. I want to extract all of the audio, video, and subtitle streams individually (from the main movie title only). Then for convenience and usability I want to put them all in a .mkv container. How can I do this and with which programs? ffmpeg, vlc, mplayer? If I can do this all at once, that's fine. But I don't want to get the streams out of sync.

I've looked everywhere I could but I must be blind. I have Ubuntu 10.04 Server and I'm trying to batch convert .avi to .m4v in folders and subfolders. I can't seem to find a script to do that.

I've been trying to install Handbrake (video converter) but its not in main repositories. So i went here and here to try and find a way to add the PPA. I got more or less the same error both times:
Code:
https://launchpad.net/api/1.0/~stebbins/+archive/handbrake-snapshots: <urlopen error [Errno 8] _ssl.c:499: EOF occurred in violation of protocol>
and this:

I am attempting to rip a dvd with dvd::rip. All goes well till it finishes ripping. It fails to merge the audio and video into one file. I am getting an audio ogm file and a video ogm file for the movie. I am currently running 10.04 kubuntu. Here is the log for the rip: (I apologize for the length but I did not know what is useful and what is not.)

How can I join the two parts of a stereoscopic movie to get a side-by-side one?
I can expand the left file, that way all I'll need is to paste the second one on top of it, with something like this:
mencoder left-file.mkv -o side-by-side.avi -oac copy -ovc lavc -of avi -vf scale=1280:720,expand=-1280:0:0:0 -sws 3 -lavcopts vbitrate=16000
Any idea which tool should I use on a Linux system?

I'm using Xfce 4.8, which now provides built-in samba browing in thunar. This works like a charm. I can browse a samba share (external HD connecter to router via USB). Yet it appears to me now that the support is limited to thunar. I mean double clicking on a file allows me to open/edit that file if and only if the software itself has samba support. In practice, double-clicking on a movie opens it with vlc thanks to vlc's own smb support. Even then, I can't find a way to add the subtitle file. I reckon that to use the share transparently, I would need to mount it the "mount" way. Either on a mount point like /mnt/hard_drive or something like .gvfs/hard_drive.
Is my understanding correct ? Is that my only option? Considering the disk won't be switched on at startup, fstab is not the solution. Would gigolo be the right choice? I spent some time trying gigolo a few days ago, following an easy tuto found on the web and it didn't work as expected. If needed I could give it another try.

Quote:
The name org.freedesktop.PackageKit was not provided by any .service files
If there's no fix can I just cp the two files (bin [executable] and share) to /usr ?

How do I go about ripping the whole DVD? All Handbrake does is rip the first episode? Google gives instructions for Apple and Windows and they don't cover doing it in Linux. They make it sound like it's automatic. I hasn't been for me so far. Well at least until this DVD issue that follows. Since installing Handbrake and routine openSUSE 11.3 64 updates my DVDs are not mounted and the notifier doesn't pop up. Navigating to /media shows no DVD mounted. I realize this could be a hardware failing issue but the DVD spins up and flashes like it's scanning the DVD. A reboot to reset everything didn't solve this issue. If I stick a USB thumb drive in it's mounted and the notifier pops up.

I have a few live concerts in AVI format I wanted to convert to mp4 since that is the only video format the Google CR-48 currently sort-of supports. I can successfully convert a series of AVI TV shows, including a Pink Floyd concert in AVI. But if I turn around and try to convert a Pearl Jam convert in AVI format, it instantly says RIP DONE! with a 1.5kb file from the convert in the destination folder.

I was trying to install the HandBrake slackbuild. It gave me an error saying it needed webkit, so I check for it in slackbuilds.org, where I found it. Listing said it required two things: libsoup and icu4c. So I downloaded the slackbuilds for those two and they installed fine, then started the install for webkit.
It did its build thing for about ten minutes, then it errors out, but the error message is pretty convoluted so I'm not sure what its telling me. Here's the last few lines from the terminal:

Anyone know what went wrong, and what I need to do to fix this?

Has successfully compiled Handbrake from source and got it to run? I've been trying to get this working for a while now, and everything I find on the interwebs is for Debian 7.6, and it seems as though things have changed a bit and those suggestions don't work.
I get this error when I try to configure it
Code: Select all : ../libhb/common.c:16:18: fatal error: x264.h: No such file or directory
: compilation terminated.
