View 4 RepliesAccording to System Monitor, my hard disc has a total size of 107.2 GiB, of which 6.7 GiB is "Free" and 1.3 GiB is available. I'm not sure if this is normal or not, though I know at least part of this wasted space is taken up by at least two failed attempts at creating Swap Files. Ubuntu says I have no Swap space whatsoever, so is there any way I can delete all these failed and unconnected Swap Files so that I could free up some spacend hopefully create one working one

I read somewhere that just doing sudo apt-get remove kde won't actually remove the entire desktop, so what else should I do.

Am I wrong interpreting these results? If I'm not, how can I automatically clean those unused modules (i.e not manually running modprobe -r ). Some years ago there used to be a daemon called kerneld who was in charge of that task, right? What's CentOS new equivalent?

View 11 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to get "add/remove Application" back? Software Center looks nice... but that is all it is.. looking nice.... I really don't like the fact that you cannot select all the application you want to install and installed them at once. Especially when you first setting up your system. but sometime you just want "shop" through the list. Plus, you sometime you just can't remember all the name of the App you want to install, in "add/remove Application" you can shop through icon. you might argue, so did Software Center, but sitting in front of you computer, during the entire process of installing every softwares.... takes like hours.... With "Add/Remove Application" It takes a min to make all the decision and you can walk away. You wouldn't use it a lot. But it would be handy when you needed. I mean I don't really get why "Add/Remove Application" got replaced. Not to mention Software center "Gray Out" a lot I don't know. Add/Remove Application just make hell of more sense. I am not such if I can install the old package from ubuntu 9.10.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running Unbuntu 10.10 on a HTPC, and also XBMC. With some effort it worked ok, sounds, remote etc. Via systems>preferences I managed to add XBMC to the startup. It now starts when I start the PC. However it sort-of hijacks the PC, so the WiFi does not start among other things. Also I am no longer able to log into the desktop, so I am not able to emove XBMC from the start-up of the computer. If I exit XBMC I get to the log-in screen for the desktop, but when I log in it starts XBMC directly.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOn Windows I've been using XMPlayer for that purpose. XMPlayer has got a rar plugin and it works as expected.I stumbled across this plugin for Audacious but I'm not sure it's relatedhttp://kittylambda.com/rsn_plugin_for_audaciousI've ran XMPlay succesfully with wine with the rar plugin and it actually works (a bit slower but it works). But what I'm missing is integration with nautilus since drag and drop won't work from nautilus to XMPlayer. I have to navigate to the rar file manually on the file-open window and since Nautilus puts it's mounts on /home/[username]/.gvfsit's a bit cumbersome.

View 2 Replies View Relatedis there a way to allow a program mounting a drive without requiring it to ask for sudo password (apart from running it with sudo)? To be more specific, I'm annoyed by the sudo password request by TrueCrypt whenever it needs to mount a volume.
I've thought about creating another user, allowing it to mount volumes and then running TrueCrypt as this user at boot. I don't know whether GNU/Linux allows for such policies... maybe I should look into SELinux?
EDIT: For the issue at hand (encrypted USB stick both on Windows and Linux), I'm investigating FreeOTFE. I'm still curious about the privileges issue, anyway.

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 Jan 9 11:05 /dev/xenvg/test01-pv-guest-disk -> ../dm-3
The above link to dm-2 and dm-3.

Some of these seem like duplicates. This may be due to multiple attempts to build the volumes. Is there a way to determine if all of the are useful?
For some reason from a fresh installation on Debian (Squeeze), Apt is telling me I no longer need the 'make' package and I can remove it. I find this extremely odd & random given I just built this O.S. Why would Debian want to remove such a package and since this is a fresh installation, is there something I did wrong?
