I was trying to encrypt a USB flash drive, but truecrypt shows me two usbs. Here is wht is says Quote:/dev/sdb: and then it says the size is 3.7GB and then the mount directory is blank.owever is also list another one that says Quote:/dev/sdb1 the size is 3.7Gb and the mount directory is /media/USB20FDI have a PNY 4GB flash drive.

While playing with the mount unmount commands when I was copying everything over... before editing my fstab.
Is there a way to access the files that existed in a directory before you mount a partition to that directory? after mount the original files are gone.unmount and they are back, Where do they go?
I have Ubuntu Karmic. I chose to install with an encrypted home directory. Recently I got a warning that I only had 2GB of drive space left. This is mostly because of my videos. So I went and bought a new hard drive and partitioned it and made 1 ext4 partition and copied my videos all to the new hard drive. I added a line in my fstab to mount the new hard drive to ~/videos, but when I reboot the computer, there is a screen saying something like "error mounting /home/me/videos, press S to skip or something else to reboot". If I press S to skip, then when my system comes up there is a video directory but it's empty because my other hard drive didn't get mounted. I can run sudo mount /dev/sdb video/ and it will mount fine and I can see all my videos, so why can't fstab mount it? Does this have something to do with my encrypted home directory?

I would like to "share" a directory which exists above these chroots with all these caged users. I know this can be accomplished using mounts but my problem is, how can I mount a single directory to multiple mount points located in each users home dir? Can this be done in the fstab file?

I have looked up multiple howto's and tutorials, but I'm having a problem not addressed by any of them.Official how-to, another how-to, and another how-to.I have verified that nfs-utils, nfs-utils-lib, portmap, and system-config-nfs are installed and running. I have verified that I have, in fact, shared the directory that I want to share, and that the proper permissions are set.
I had to go through some gyrations to get the Belkin wireless N router to allow my server to have a static IP. However, I can ping the server from the nfs client (a toshiba satellite running mint 8), and vice versa. I have (for now) disabled firewalls on both computers. I'd like to mount the directory /var/www/mysite to the directory /home/daniel/mysite, but also have the user of the mounted files mapped from the original user (www-data) to my own user (daniel). So that the file /var/www/mysite/index.php who's user is www-data will appear in the mounted directory as /home/daniel/mysite/index.php and be owned by daniel - and alternatively, if I create a file /home/daniel/mysite/test.php with my own user, it will be created in the original directory under the user www-data Is it possible? If not, what alternatives do I have so I can use an IDE and still make sure all the files belong to the HTTP server's user?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've searched the forums and found several posts for similar problems but haven't yet found a solution to my problem.I first realised something was wrong when I attempted to burn a CD using Brasero. Brasero said "please replace the disc with a supported CD or DVD". I tried using K3b, Gnome Baker, Gnome CD Master and encountered the same problem every time - they didn't recognise the blank CD-R in the drive.In Gnome Baker I opened Edit => Preferences => Devices and discovered that only one of my CD drives is listed with a mount point. The CD-R drive (the one I need to burn CDs) doesn't have a mount point.I tried using fstab to alter this by entering a new line so that it now reads:

We currently have a NFS shared Directory mounted as read-only on our server.This directory contains multiple sub-directories and files. It being read-only is a equirement. Now, we need a directory underneath to be read-write. Is there a graceful way to make that happen? Like a special mount option to use? Basically objective is: /u01 is mounted as read-only and has 3 directories: dir1, dir2, dir3 dir3 has 2 sub-directories- sub1,sub2/u01/dir3/sub2 needs to be read-write, while all other are read-only.

I would then like to permanently mount each folder to its machine (I have 10 machines connected through a switch, so each machine will have a folder that is mounted to ONE of the 10 folders in the external hard drive).
My questions:
(1) Is this a good configuration? are there better ideas to give individual machines more space without replacing their hard drive?
(2) How do I limit each one of the folders ('folder1', 'folder2', ...., 'folder10') to a size of 100 [GB]? I don't want one folder (say, 'folder1') to grow in size and 'steal' the space designated to the other folders.

If I limit the max-depth enough, I get results. For example, in my home directory 'gt5 --max-depth 2' produces a listing, while 'gt5 --max-depth 3' produces a blank page.
I've noticed that the temporary html file that gets created in tmp (such as '/tmp/gt5.9035.kJVM08Y9/gt5.html' is a zero-byte file.
I can successfully do a du in the same directory (which is what I thought gt5 was using), so I'm not sure what to check?

When more than one directory is open, the tab for each directory s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-s way across the screen, so all tabs added together take up 100% of the width. So with two folders open, each tab is 50% of the screen width! In previous Nautilus versions, each tab was just normal size. Cannot find a Preference to change this, and Googling for any solution brings up someone's previous query of this nature: [URL] and the fact that no one has responded! Is this an option that can be changed? Anyone come across this new "feature" before?

myisamchk: Disk is full writing '/tmp/STGL3SGd' (Errcode: 28). Waiting for someone to free space... (Expect up to 60 secs delay for server to continue after freeing disk space)
Our /tmp partition is current set at 485M, but it is not large enough to handle the database fix...
Does anyone know of a work around - perhaps to assign different directory for the temp files?

I tried to tar and then split; however, I don't have enough room on my hard-drive to make a compressed tar and split it up and then burn to disk, so I need a way to tar the and compress the directory, split it, and burn to disk every 4.3GBs.
I went ahead and installed DAR as an alternative, as I hear it is designed for this type of task, but I can't figure out which way is heads or tails.
my OS is the newest version of ubuntu 10.
After installing everything I neded to get on to the web with my server, I discovered that my www dir only has 20 gb.
