Oct 1, 2010I had Ubuntu 8.04 and the D-Link Wireless WNA-1330 PCMCIA card worked just fine. I upgraded to 10.04 and it fails. I can see the network of wireless routers in my neighborhood, but when I try to connect on WEP 40/128bit with my hex key of my router, it tries to connect but can't get a DHCP address. I cannot ping the router in that state, of course. I have two other 10.04 laptops (with built-in wireless) and they connect just fine, as does a Windows Vista laptop. I also tried the pci=noapi item in /boot/grub/menu.lst, but that failed to show any results either. The card lights up like it should, and acts just like it did with 8.04 on the lights, but it doesn't connect. I end up seeing the "Enter your WEP password" dialog again and again unless I hit Cancel.

Feb 20, 2011I'm a Linux newbie. Used to use Ubuntu, but I switched to Slackware because I want to learn how Linux works better.
On my Samsung qx410 laptop, I can't connect to the internet. I went to the System Settings -> Network Settings and all the tabs there, but it wouldn't detect any connection, wireless nor wired.
I noticed that the kernel of Slackware 13.1 is out of date, so I tried compiling a newer one, but I couldn't get that to work.
I tried downloading this file: iwlwifi-6050-ucode-41.28.5.1.tgz but even after reading the readme, I had no clue how to go about installing it or even whether it was the right thing to install in the first place.
How can I get my internet working?

2/ I saw I had problems with yum: when I launch the "add/remove programs" button in the menu, if the "c5-media" item is checked (and only this one) and the DVD of centOS is in the drive, then I have this message : "cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: c5-media. Please verify its path and try again" I specify I modified the /var/run/yum.pid file (removed the only number which was here)
the main issue for me is the yum failure, because it could be needed for the wifi problem. one thing after the other! the installation is totally new (except that I modified the yum.pid file).

Dec 14, 2010I'm dual booting windows 7 64 bit and Ubuntu 10.1 64 bit on my Dell Inspiron 11z with an embedded WiMAX/WiFi Link 6050 series wireless card made from Intel. I only use it for wifi, not 3g or wimax. I installed the latest driver from intellinuxwireless.org, iwlwifi-6050-ucode-41.28.5.1, but it still doesn't seem to work. I ran these terminal commands from another thread:
cd Desktop/wlwifi-6050-ucode-9.201.4.1
sudo cp iwlwifi-6050-4.ucode /lib/firmware
sudo chmod 644 /lib/firmware/iwlwifi*

After running "sudo rmmod -f iwlagn sudo modprobe iwlagn", I get this read out for my wireless card.

In the ubuntu help section it tells me to flip a manual wifi switch to enable it, but pressing my windows wifi button, F2, doesn't appear to do anything while in ubuntu. The only experience I have working with linux is typing some terminal commands on my android phone to root it.

Apr 14, 2010I have installed ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop. It has a 802.11n wireless card.
When I boot up to ubuntu, the wireless does not work. And if I connect to a wire network within ubuntu, it works.
Ubuntu can't detect any of the Wifi network in my home (other laptop can). And I click 'Enable Wireless' in the notification area, it said 'Device not found' for the Wireless Network.
The card is 'Intel Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth'
Can you please tell me how can I setup my wireless card in ubuntu 9.10?

Jun 15, 2011I have had a vz modem card for some time now and it worked fine. However my employer upgraded from a PC5750 device to the new PC770 device. When I plug the old device (now deactivated) it shows and use to work fine. When I plug the new device in Ubuntu does not pick it up and show it in the networking options. I use to see it i n the upper right where I would select my wireless networks. I do get a green light on the card so I know its powered. So what do I need to do to get my Laptop to see the new card?

I am currently using NDISWrapper to load the bcmwl15 driver and when it's active it works beautifully.Problem is sometimes at boot, the card doesn't "turn on" and I don't know how else to describe it. The OS does not even detect that the hardware is present. I have disabled wireless hotkey in BIOS. The only way to make the wireless card "active" is to reboot with the wiredconnection to the router. After doing that the wireless card "wakes up" and works awesome.Is there anything I can do to make sure the driver load at boot?mes I get the error that NDISWrapper is not modprobbed when I go to network configuration and if I wish to do i now? I don't know if that has anything to do with the boot sequence. Using the <modprobe ndiswrapper> command as root does nothing permanant

There are two Network Cards and one USB adapter which I'd like to drive:
- Ethernet controller Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5703X Gigabit Ethernet (rev 02)
- Ethernet controller Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)
- Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8187 Wireless Adapter
Actually I need the wireless adapter to connect to the AP, so both of the ethernet card should be disabled. Infact, when I try to access to the AP I must disable the eth0 card by using (sudo ifconfig eth0 down), otherwise the route assigns the default gw (192.168.1.1) to the eth0 device and the network is useless.

Dec 11, 2014Since few days, I have a problem with my wireless card on some access points. For example I try to connect on WPA2/PSK AP and there are 7/8sec between dhcp discover and dhcp offer. After getting an ip address, ping between my laptop and AP is ~100ms.. AP is near 1m. When trying to ping google.com, 80% packets lost and latency is ~ 400ms.

Dec 4, 2010Just installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.
I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.
Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.
Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.

Aug 29, 2010I use Ubuntu 9.04 and try to get a Sweex LW053 USB wireless card (Ralink RT73/RT2500 chipset) to work. According to the Wiki list in the sticky thread, this one should work "out of the box" since 8.04.
lsusb delivers

and there is also some wlan0 entry that doesn't look too dodgy when typing ifconfig.
From this I get that my laptop recognizes the card.
I also typed in some numbers such as SSID and DNS server address in Preferences>Network Connections where asked (although the information that I had wasn't 100% what was asked for so I tried to guess what needs to be filled in which fields).
However, I don't get an internet connection (Firefox can't find server...)
What else do I have to (or can I) do?

Jul 23, 2009I have Fedora11 running in my machine and it has no LAN port (RJ-45). I have a wireless PCMCIA card.The model of the wireless card is NL-2511CD EXT2(ETSI).When I insert that card to the PCMCIA slot a window pops up and ask for a WEP key. My wireless router is configured with WPA but above pop-up has no WPA option. I suspect my fedora installation does not have the necessary driver for my wireless card.I want to install that driver. I can transfer that file to the machine via thumb drive since it has no network connection yet. How do I install this? Please refer below images as I'm still a newbie at linux.

Oct 2, 2010I installed 10.3 (after buying it a couple of years ago and letting sit on the shelf) and can't get it to configure my ethernet connection or my wireless card. Yast doesn't include a list of available cards, and the error I get in installation-network setup is that the kernel isn't present. The machine I'm installing this on is a Lenovo, in which there isn't a discrete ethernet card (it's in the motherboard), but my wireless card (a Cisco LINKSYS 802.11G) is a discrete card. Because I'm divorcing Microsoft for a number of valid reasons, I don't have Windows available on that box.
