Ubuntu Networking :: VZ Wireless Modem Card Setup

Jun 15, 2011

I have had a vz modem card for some time now and it worked fine. However my employer upgraded from a PC5750 device to the new PC770 device. When I plug the old device (now deactivated) it shows and use to work fine. When I plug the new device in Ubuntu does not pick it up and show it in the networking options. I use to see it i n the upper right where I would select my wireless networks. I do get a green light on the card so I know its powered. So what do I need to do to get my Laptop to see the new card?

Ubuntu Networking :: 11.04 Management Of Network Card / Wired/wireless Setup?

May 1, 2011

I am facing a problem with the management of my network card after installing Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit Desktop edition.

There are two Network Cards and one USB adapter which I'd like to drive:

- Ethernet controller Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5703X Gigabit Ethernet (rev 02)
- Ethernet controller Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)
- Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8187 Wireless Adapter

Actually I need the wireless adapter to connect to the AP, so both of the ethernet card should be disabled. Infact, when I try to access to the AP I must disable the eth0 card by using (sudo ifconfig eth0 down), otherwise the route assigns the default gw (192.168.1.1) to the eth0 device and the network is useless.

Networking :: Network Setup - Router - Wireless Router Card ?

Apr 24, 2010

I'm having trouble getting my network set up the way that I want it/had it. You see, when I first set up my network, I just had my cable modem going directly to my standard wired router (A D-Link DI-604), which had DHCP,and was connected to all of the computers on my network. I had one switch hooked up to one of the ports of the router, but this was a regular switch, and it would not try to assign IP addresses, it would just pass through the DHCP info as I wanted.

Now however, my network setup has changed. My room mate and I both got laptops, and we decided that we wanted to have wireless access so we didn't have to constantly plug in to the router.

Now my network is set up like this: The modem is hooked up to the router(DI-604), which is hooked up on the LAN side to our computers, our switch (which is hooked up to 3 more computers), and to a wireless router card (A Gigabyte GN-BC01).

The wireless router card has two jacks for ethernet. One for WAN, and one for LAN. The LAN side we have plugged only into the computer in which the card is installed.

Now the problem is this: The wireless router card comes with DHCP by default, and it's assigning addresses to the laptops and to the computer hat it's in, and worse, the IP addresses are on a different subnet than that of the main dlink router. The Main (dlink) router assigns addresses from 192.168.0.1 (itself) to 192.168.0.254, while the wireless router card assigns addresses from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 (itself).

Because of this, I cannot access services on the wireless network from my wired network or vice versa. The first thing I tried was setting the card to assign addresses from 192.168.0.12 to 192.168.0.253, however it just said "internal error" when I tried to do this. I decided that this may be because it sees that it was being assigned an address on it's WAN side on the same subnet. So the next thing I tried was disabling DHCP and setting the "LAN IP Address" to 192.168.0.12, hoping that the DHCP would just go through the card, like a switch. I would have set the LAN IP address to be assigned by DHCP, but this was not an option, so I decided that'd be the best thing to set it to.

Once again however, setting the LAN ip address to an address on the same subnet as that of the IP assigned to it's WAN side caused it to report an "internal error". I verified that this was the issue by setting the LAN address to several other private IP addresses to test (I.E. 10.0.0.1, 192.168.3.1, 192.168.5.12).

My question then really is: How do I set up both routers so that I can access services and computers from each network from the other network. Should I set them with different subnets and set the gateway on the wireless network to the main router? To the wireless router card? Should I put them on the same subnet? Will it know how to communicate?

Here is a link to (picture) my network diagram. Network Diagram

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Use Wi-Fi Card At All / Cant Connect To Wi-Fi Modem

Jul 11, 2010

I am using Linux Mint 9 Gnome: Isadora (since the same Network Manager applet is used in Ubuntu, I am asking the question here too)I was trying to configure my wireless card to connect my PPPoE connection by using the command pppoeconf wlan0 and also pppoeconf.I was not able to dial my PPPoE connection when connected via Wi-Fi. When I restarted my system, in the Network Manager, under Wireless Networks it says "Device not managed". Now I am not able to use my Wi-Fi card at all and cant connect to my Wi-Fi modem.

There is no hardware Wi-Fi switch, only the key combination Fn+F2 to enable or disable the wireless card.I have used the key combination Fn+F2 (which enables or disables the Wi-Fi card) many a times, but the same thing is displayed in the network manager. If I use LiveCD mode and use any distro even Isadora, the Wi-Fi works fine.My ethernet connection is working fine. I can connect to the internet if I connect my modem using Ethernet port.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To Wireless Modem

Apr 8, 2010

My wireless modem has disappeared from the connection list at the top of the page. Strangely, a guest connection on that same modem is still visible but won't connect. I added the modem back in as a new connection and it was added to the list but it was greyed out and I still can't connect to it. The problem could, of course, be in the modem but I have no way to check that. Reset is not working. Lan connection to the modem works fine. This is the second time this has happened in the last week and I ended up reinstalling Ubuntu. This gave me back the wireless connection. I don't really want to have to do that again. Is there anything I can check in Ubuntu?

Ubuntu Networking :: Setting Up Wireless Modem In 10.10?

So I partitioned the family tower, but I cannot connect wirelessly. And to run hard wire to the router would mean a complete tear down of my desk and set up in the living room area, and that will not help out the marriage long/short term.

on the internet connection and I gone through the panels trying to set up the connection but no luck. I'm running Vista and Ubuntu 10.10. I using vista to post here now.

How do I get it to find the wireless router and set up my connection without being hardwire to the router itself.

Networking :: 3g Wireless Modem Not Recognised

Sep 27, 2010

Actually, this device came with a software(for linux too) which makes calls and sms possible simultaneously while surfing. But while installation(from root terminal) i see a repeated trials of connecting to modem but it does not find the device(something wrong in installation), and the interface of the software also shows "No(U) Sim". Anyhow it doesn't bother me much if i m not able to avail the additional services( call and sms), but what i need is to make the modem recognisable so that i could configure the connection.

Ubuntu Networking :: 3G USB Modem, In And Using Wireless Router Out To Lappy, Wii Ect?

I did come across a Virgin wireless modem but it is soooo painfully slow (tested it against the USB dongle modem 3-4kb same test 1 min later 280-300kb's USB.) The wife could make herself a cuppa just waiting for the facebook login page to load!Would it need to pass on the connection bcause the USB is fully setup? then wireless is setup or would it be required to have a 3rd security setting ect in between? It would be good to use a low spec computer because I have a few. Headless too, maybe?

Ubuntu Networking :: Remote SSH With Both DSL Modem And Wireless Router

Jul 28, 2011

I have an Ubuntu server that I need to access remotely while I am at school. The server's internet connection comes first through a DI-604 broadband router and then through a Netgear Wireless router:

ethernet wall jack --> Broadband Router --> Wireless Router --> Server's ethernet port

I can manage to get the SSH to work with the current IP address (dynamic) by connecting the server directly to the broadband router, but I cannot set up DNS (ddclient on the server, Namecheap for domain registrar and nameserver) with it. I can set up DNS on the router with no issue, as it has the DNS client built in, but I cannot get the SHH to connect through both the modem and the router as mentioned above. Best case scenario, this can be fixed without having to get anything new, but if that is the case, recommendations of a new setup

Other reference info - ISP at server is Verizon Fios, broadband router set to PPPoE.

Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Through Modem Works But Not Through Wireless Router?

Jan 22, 2010

I just bought a TRENDNET TDM C4000 (=modem/ wiredrouter) and got it working. If I connect my computer with through the ethernet port directly, the internet will work. However, when I try connecting the ends of the ethernet cable on the modem and my wireless router, it's not transmitting. I know I set up the wireless router correctly because it worked with my previous modem. I just need to know how to configure my modem so that it works with my wireless router (D-Link DI-524).

I have a long wired ethernet wire to satisfy my academic needs for the internet at the moment but my mother is not able to surf the internet and it would be more convenient for myself to put the wire back to my desktop and have my laptop browsing wirelessly.
